I love geneology and to have a story based on that...I was hooked!
I’m personally not a fan of the writing style, but I can see why it has glowing reviews on goodreads!

When I Meet You is the story of a genealogist, her lawyer/chef father, a somewhat confusing family history, and the contents of a couple trunks.

I enjoyed getting to know Jillian, Nolan, and Drew as well as the various side characters in small town Colorado. However, I struggled with keeping the split timeline and the changing names throughout the majority of the book. That said, any confusion is resolved in the end and I loved the last few chapters.

I received a complimentary copy of When I Meet You from the publisher and Netgalley.

What an intriguing book! I never knew the Pinkterton Detective Agency had agents who rode the rails as a means to solve crimes! When Lynelle was faced with fellow passengers sneaking around her compartment she had to decide who to trust. The people who I thought were sincere ended up being the crooks. I was a bit confused when the Meade’s returned to her hotel room and she seemed to trust them, when previously she was trying to escape from them. I do wish the author had provided a way for Jillian to discover her own family connections to Drew’s family. Maybe that will be in a future book? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

If you love genealogy you will like this book! The main character, Jillian, is a sort of genealogy investigator, which I didn’t even know was a thing. Sounds like a fun job! She’s been given a steamer trunk that was left at the train station in 1909 and using the contents and documents and photos within she begins to track down the woman who owned it and tries to find out what happened to her. The book goes back and forth between the 1909 storyline and current day as she unravels the mysteries in the trunk and also sets into researching her own family history. The setting is Colorado near Denver which reminded me of my own childhood in the mountains of Colorado. Jillian’s father, Nolan, is another main character who is an attorney but also a chef and the background story of him preparing for a dinner for 200 people is charming. It''s well written with lovely and likeable characters. It was so nice to read a sweet book without cursing or icky stuff. The book ends with the mystery being solved and just a hint of clues for the next book in the series.

A fabulous book! I enjoyed every moment of this book. I found myself sad when it ended. It was charming and the storyline at times had me glued to my chair. With charming detail and look at the past that solves a mystery in the future. This was truly a gem. Olivia Newport really draws the reader into a story about genealogy in way you wouldn’t expect. 5 stars all the way! I look forward to reading more of her work!

WHEN I MEET YOU is the third novel in the Tree of Life series by OLIVIA NEWPORT and I hope it is not the last. I really enjoy this author with her sensitive understanding of human nature and subtle Christian message. The book can easily stand alone, but I suggest you read the others in the series for pure enjoyment. The whole idea of unravelling the past in order to understand people and events better is fascinating.
The story is split between two time frames - 1909 and the present time.
When family lawyer Nolan Duffy is asked to look into the legal ramifications of ownership of a beautiful trunk left at Denver station in 1909, he enlists the help of his genealogist daughter, Jillian Parisi- Duffy, to find out to whom it belonged, and the mystery attached to it. The arrival of thie trunk leads to Jillian going back to one that belonged to her late mother in order to find out more about her Italian roots.
There is a good measure of suspense, intrigue, and a hint of romance, making for a truly enjoyable read and one I can highly recommend. That is all I am going to tell you as I do not want to spoil things for you.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

This is the third book in the Tree of Life series that I've read. I still love the characters of Jillian the genealogist and her father, Nolan, the opera-singing, gourmet-cooking, lawyer, as well as the side characters in their town of Canyon Mines, Colorado. I liked how this installment brought us a bit more backstory to Jillian and the loss of her mother, as well as the family history there that she's trying to uncover.

However, the rhythm of this story was a little bumpy for me. I can handle the time shifting, but the correspondence added an additional layer of time lines, and trying to tie Jillian's ancestors in with the woman who was lost to history, as well as trying to unravel the financial mystery...it took me awhile to get the gist of what was happening.

I give this book 3 stars. I still love the concept of using genealogy and family history to tie people together and to even solve mysterious questions of the past and present, but I struggled to get into this one. The ending wrapped up the story well, though, and I was glad I persisted.

I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.
