This is a great read for families expecting a baby. Seeing things through the cats perspective would be a welcome change for soon to be big siblings. The art work is intriguing, and draws the eyes through the story.

This beautiful picture book shows how scary a new baby can be for the other children in the family. In this family's case - the fur babies are nervous about being replaced. Amina skillfully weaves a kind message of assurance throughout the book. This coupled with the beautiful drawing of Maya create a feeling of comfort, ease and acceptance even during uncertain times.
I highly recommend this book for families expecting a new baby to help ease the transition for the older children. It is also a great example great character description and could be used in a lesson as an example for older students needing an example.
I believe that you will enjoy this book’s beautiful pictures as much as the story it tells. It will delight you mind as well as your eyes.

The Low Down:

Maryam and Sami have three cats: Pasha the black angora cat―proud as a pasha really!―Minouche the grey tabby cat found in the street and Amir the playful Siamese. One day Maryam’s belly starts to get bigger and something starts to stir in it. Maryam disappears for a few days and comes back home with something that screams and demands a lot of attention. Their three cats are very confused. What’s going on?

My Thoughts:

I thought this was a wonderful, simple story about three cats who get anxious and curious when their mom has a baby until they learn that there is enough love to go around. Originally written in Arabic, this story does not suffer in translation as I have noticed some translated books do. I really enjoyed it, although there wasn't much to it (the illustrations speak for themselves), and I think it would be a wonderful book to read to children who are expecting a younger sibling.

Alya and the Three cats reminds me of the story going on in my daughters house. My daughter has two cats and a 🐶 dog. They are always cuddling with my daughter. I think any child 3 or 4 will love the story.

Alya and the Three Cats is a very sweet and appealing book.  The illustrator captures the look and feel of each of the cats, all of whom enjoy being treated like princes.  Myriam lovingly cares for Minouche, Pasha and Amir.  The cats love climbing on Myriam but...what is happening?  Myriam is getting larger.  Why does she leave one day and return with a pink basket and what is inside it?  Will there be enough love to go around?

Young children will enjoy this story, both to see the delightful illustrations and to understand a bit about bringing a baby into the home.  It could be a great gift for an older sibling.

This was an adorable book with a simple, yet underrated message: There is enough love in one's heart to love the whole world! The illustration was more than cute, i loved it very much. Specially the outpour of cultural elements can peak children's attention and rise questions that would finally lead to knowledge. Also this can be a nice book for the siblings who are not yet comfortable with the arrival of a newborn.

Alya and the Three Cats by Amina Hachimi Alaoui is a cute story about three cats that have a pregnant owner and how they feel about her coming home with a new baby. Will these cats that have been the center of attention be able to learn to share the love of their owner? This is an adorable story with engaging illustrations by Maya Fidawi that shows us that love is to be shared and there is enough to go around for everyone. I do wish it was a little longer as I really liked the style.

This is a strange picture book that suffers from a weak translation and a confusing title.

Do you have cats who are upset about the impending arrival of a human baby? If so, then this is the book for you. Get it and read it to your cats.

In all seriousness, I get that this is supposed to be for older siblings, but it reads more like something for the cats rather than something about them. As for the translation, there are a few areas that could use some work. At one point, it's stated that the cats are treated like princes... so you'd assume they're all male. Nope. Minouche is female. (The word "royalty" probably would've worked better there.) Pasha is described as looking "like a real pasha". I'm sorry, but that's not an English word, and I have no idea what it means! Also, the title is pretty misleading. Alya is the baby, and she barely even makes an appearance. It would've made more sense to call the book Myriam and the Three Cats since Myriam is the one the cats have all bonded with and whose growing belly is freaking the cats out.

The pictures are cute, I guess. The book obviously takes places somewhere other than North America (North Africa or the Middle East would be my guess), and this is reflected in the illustrations. It's always nice to see different cultures reflected in the pictures.

Overall, though, I found this one really underwhelming. But cat lovers might enjoy it more than I did.

Let's start with the illustrations - they were simple, but super cute. There is so much going on in this story and I love it. I honestly teared up when Grandma said "To love is to share." This story is so sweet and filled with so much love. I appreciate how they easily wove in the story of how the cats came to live there as well. The cats even all have personalities (just like real cats!).

Highly recommend. Loved this one.

What a precious book! This story is told from the perspective of three cats with very different personalities. When their owner becomes pregnant they fear that their contented lifestyle may be changing. This was a beautifully illustrated book, and I loved the diverse names and cleverly told story. I would recommend this book to anyone who is expecting a new baby in their life to read to their children. A wonderful story with a great message, "There is more than enough love to go around!"

Beautiful illustrations and prose make this book stand out! It has a positive message about being open to the change of a new sibling using the story of three cats. I would recommend this for a younger audience (2-3 year olds) as it's a fairly simple and short book.

I'm reviewing some children's books with my granddaughter Gia. Please keep in mind she is 4, and cannot read, but she likes lively pictures and is partial to cats, witches, dragons, and the color pink. LOL
In "selecting" which titles to review, I enlisted her help, letting her virtually select from the "read now" titles.
Thankfully I believe she was able to select books within her age group, surprisingly!
She picked this one due to the cats on the cover.
I was disappointed that I couldn't download it to my PC because it would be awesome to see the book in color, but I could not get access to that particular "device" under manage my devices.
We viewed it on my cell phone because my kindle has no color. (bad choice nana!) but she gave it a thumbs up for the kitties and a thumbs down for the baby carriage. Not sure why, I think she felt she should've "seen the stinkin baby" LOL!!!
I thought the story was cute, and was just short enough to keep her attention.
It also teaches that love is divisible among all those you love, it never runs out, therefore Myriam is able to love her kitties even though she added in a new (human) baby!
Very cute. We enjoyed this one!
Highly recommend for young cat lovers and great to help teach the lesson for a new sibling scenario as well, that they will always be loved, even when the "new baby" comes on the scene.

This book is a tale of three very different cats who are all loved the same by their owner, but one day she leaves and comes home with a baby and the cats dont know what to make of it. The gran treasures them that their owner will still love them the same and then their owner shows them her love. The cats become accustomed to the baby after this.

A very adorable kid's picture with a simple story . The art was not my favorite and the story was a tad lackluster but otherwise it was cute.
