A Novel Way to Die by Tamra Baumann is about Sawyer Davis, a chef who inherited her mother’s mystery bookshop. This cozy mystery has a solid plot and the author keeps you hues sing until the end. This book has murder, computer hacking and a greedy Uncle. Sawyer Davis is a pleasure to read about. Good book!! Sawyer is hosting her first book signing for the world’s biggest diva. Between juggling the author’s lofty demands, learning how to be a surrogate mother to a fifteen-year-old, and dealing with the Sheriff who once broke her heart, Sawyer’s menu is full. She longs for the good old days when the worst thing that happened was a flopped soufflé. But when the author’s husband ends up dead in Sawyer’s best friend, Renee’s, ice cream shop, things really heat up. Sawyer believes her friend is being framed. With the help of her book club members and her adorable goldendoodle, Sawyer sets out to save Renee. Will Sawyer and her friends help serve up justice on a platter, or will they all find themselves in a pickle? |
I enjoy this series, This is book 2 in the Cozy Mystery Bookshop and it can be read as a stand alone but you'll get more from the characters if you read book 1, Plotting for Murder. Sawyer is hosting her first book signing at the bookstore with the help of her 15 year old step sister who is now her ward. The author and her group are the guests from hell. Now the author's husband is dead and it looks like it might be the perfect murder, written right out of a book. Good cozy. I just hope the lawsuit between Sawyer and her uncle is soon settled. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. |

A Novel Way to Die by Tamara Baumann is the second book in the Cozy Mystery Bookshop series. Sawyer has her hands full hosting the first book signing at her inherited bookshop along with parenting 15 year old Brittany, a job she also inherited. When the diva author's husband is found dead, Sawyer is convinced someone is trying to frame his old girlfriend and Sawyer's best friend, Renee. With Brittany's help Sawyer is determined to clear Renee's name. The supporting characters add to the story, and the mystery had plenty of twists and turns to keep me interested until then end! |
If you're Sawyer Davis, former chef and now bookshop owner, it's a challenge to handle a diva author but when the author's husband is found murdered in your best friend's ice cream shop, you have to add amateur sleuths to your resume! I enjoyed the book and liked the Sawyer character. The mystery was fast-paced and I didn't guess "whodunit". I love mysteries set in bookshops and was thrilled to see that there was a secret book club that met. I'm looking forward to the next book and Sawyer's next case! I received an ARC the NetGalley and the opinions expressed are my own. |

The second book in the Cozy Mystery Bookshop Series the characters were well-crafted and the story-line was enjoyable. I highly recommend this novel if you enjoy reading cozy mysteries. |
This is the second installment in this new to me series. I loved the first book and was able to read the second in the series shortly after reading the first. It was just as enjoyable as the author's first and I was able to pick up right after the first. I give this 5 stars because I enjoyed the story and loved the characters. As the series progresses, characters are becoming more defined. There is lots of activity and a lot of fun and funny moments! Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review! I'm ready to read the third book in this series! |
When Sawyer's best friend looks like she is on the hook for murder, the not so secret book club is on the case once again! This time they may not be in time to save Renee or Sawyer as they get a little too close for the killers comfort. While on the hunt for the killer, Sawyer also must continue to battle her uncle for access to her trust fund in order to be able to continue to repair and maintain her real estate holdings. Add in a annoyed teen with a penchant for cyber crime and you have the recipe for potential disaster! Once again the author has delivered a well plotted story to keep you guessing wrapped around well developed characters that you can't help but fall in love with! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! |
Princess Fuzzypants here: Sawyer has so much going on in her life. She is still reeling from her mother’s death and struggling with the teenager her mother adopted and wanted Sawyer to raise. She and Brittany try to find the right balance while Sawyer attempts to turn her inherited bookshop into the black and finagle the funds from a trust to build the restaurant she desires. She’s also sorting through her feelings about the guy who dumped her at the altar and is chief of police now and wants a rematch. Things are bound to get testy when her best friend is accused of murdering her philandering ex who just happens to the husband of a famous author who is doing a book signing for Sawyer when he is murdered. There are lots of moving parts with some very savvy computer skills and planning pinning the murder on Renee. Sawyer is convinced her friend is innocent but can she unravel the truth and convince anyone else? I do like Sawyer. She is smart and loyal but knows her limitations. She is not foolhardy so the suspense is legit when she faces the villains. It is a fast moving tale with great characters and interesting plot lines. I liked it. Five purrs and two paws up. |

Tamra Baumann A novel way to die , book 2 of series . I enjoyed the first book immensely and the second book doesn’t disappoint. A wonderful written storyline. Sawyer organised a book signing at her book shop, the author husband is found dead . Renee becomes a suspect of the murder so Sawyer needs to find the killer before her bestie is charged. What annoying uncle Sawyer has who keeps harassing her about the inheritance. I love the characters, perfect whodunnit. Highly recommend this author and will definitely look out for Tamra’s next instalment. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my advance copy. |
This is the second book in the Cozy Mystery Bookshop series. It can be read as a stand-alone since there are plenty of background moments throughout the book. Sawyer is a chef stuck with a bookstore, a falling down house and an adoptive sister of 15. Here best friend Renee ends up accused of the murder of one of her previous boyfriends; the relationship ended acrimoniously. Dylan is the town sheriff. He and Sawyer have a past as high school sweethearts. Sawyer does learn why Dylan left her at the altar over the course of the book. Angelica is an author who does a book signing at the book store. It’s her husband that is murdered. Angelica has other secrets - she has been using a ghostwriter for years. Sawyer has an evil uncle who is trying to take away her trust fund inheritance. Sawyer, her sister Brittany and the mystery book club that meets at the book store work to get Renee off the hook. I wasn’t expecting quite how this ended up working out. There were some overt clues to a perpetrator but it was much more complex in the end that expected. The mystery is really well done. I wasn’t as in like with the character interactions. I feel like the balance with personal stories was off. I would get into the mystery and then something would happen to throw me out of the mystery and into personal dynamics. I didn’t feel very connected to Sawyer, so that may be why I felt the balance was off. |

I rounded down instead of up because I was slightly confused in the first part of the book. But wow, a third of the way into it, everything clicked and just took off. I loved Sawyer and her relationships, especially with Brittany and Dylan. Plus I discovered the plot was quite inventive with excellent red herrings. Overall, a real find, and if her next book is anywhere near as clever and we'll done, Tamra Baumann will move into the echelon of my favorite cozy authors, like Ellery Adams. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. |
A Novel Way to Die by Tamra Baumann is the 2nd book in Cozy Mystery Bookshop series. I have read the first in series and loved this new series. This 2nd in series can easily be read by new readers to the series as a stand alone. Thank you with gratitude to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own, This is a delightful series that is set in a small coastal town of Northern California. The author has created such a well crafted setting with likable charcters that I read this series in one sitting. I love Sawyer as our Protagonist who is savvy smart and a good friend . Sawyer returned to town leaving her job as a chef to inherit her Mother's old mystery bookstore and old crumbling Victorian house. She has had challenges and helped solve one prior murder while settling in and starting a new relationship. One of her challenges is her evil Uncle who wants her property and her store . When Sawyer host a signing of a author in her store , a murder occurs in her friends nearby ice cream shop. As her friend is suspect number one Sawyer does not hesitate to investigate and wants to save her friend who she knows is innocent. I loved this as a fun sleuth with plenty of red herrings to keep this avid mystery reader guessing. I enjoy the setting, the characters and how the author is growing Sawyer and her life with this new release. i look forward to the next in series. Very well done to the author. This is a cozy series I highly recommend. |

Not only a mystery, but a romance to boot! What a win-win. In her sophomoric outing for this series, Baumann hits all the high points. Fast-paced plot? Check. Likable and dislikable characters? Check. Small town setting? Check. A lovable pet? You got it. If you're looking for a mystery to hunker down with, this is the book for you. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This review is also published on my Goodreads page. |
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone—I never read the first book, and I followed the story line easily enough. However, as sort of cliffhangers, the author has left some issues the character in the series have as unresolved, hoping, I guess, to entice the reader to read subsequent books. In this story, Sawyer Davis, who inherited her mother’s book shop, is juggling a lot: an author diva with lofty demands, being surrogate mother to a 15-year old girl, and working with and thru a sheriff who once-upon-a-time broke her heart. Sawyer remembers the “easy” days as a chef, when she only cared if her recipe did not turn out right or, worse still, flopped. On top of all this comes the death of the diva author’s husband in her friend Renee’s ice cream shop. Sawyer must use the help of her book club friends and her adorable goldendoodle to work through the mystery, uncovering clue after clue, recognizing red herrings, until she can bring it all together in the end. The two main characters are rather predictable but some of the other characters bring interest and excitement to the story. I also enjoyed the way the author wrote, including just enough mystery and romance to make the book an interesting read. I did find that the main character sometimes came across as not so smart, but, all in all, she managed to do things in a way to get to a solid ending. The book comes across as a fun read with lots of crazy events/actions, only adding to the already full main plot. This is a book series worth looking at. I received this form NetGalley to read and review. |

The first time I have read this author and I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. Sawyer, the sleuth in this series is really good for getting herself into trouble with the Sheriff Dylan who was her fiance at some point. Sawyer owns the local book store. This is one where you are not sure who did it until the end. A GOOD READ. |

This is the 2nd installment of the Cozy Bookshop Mystery series. I had started this and went back to read the first one and glad I did. This can be read as a stand alone but I preferred to get some of the backstory about Sawyer’s Mom and what happened in the last story. This story is a couple of months after the first one and Sawyer and Brittany are hosting an author who grew up in Sunset Cove. Angelica and her husband Zach (an ex of Renee’s) are in town and doing a book signing at her store. Renee plans to stay away and wants nothing to do with her ex from high school and later when he ends up dead in the freezer at her ice cream shop she is the primary suspect. She cannot believe Dylan (her ex who left her at the altar) the Sheriff can even think Renee possible of this. Sawyer and Madge are sleuthing and Dylan is not happy. I enjoyed this mystery and it was hard to figure out who did it for sure but I had my suspicions. I think Sawyer’s Uncle Frank is outrageous and am rooting for her to beat him at his own game with the trust fund. Also glad that the love triangle of Sawyer, Dylan and Gage is resolved as I am not a fan of that extending too long. Brittany is a great character and love seeing her and Sawyer’s relationship growing. I am looking forward to the next in this series. Highly recommend. |
