Read this book in an evening, which is rare for me. It usually takes at least 2 nights to finish a book! Incredibly gripping with a ‘not sure where this is leading...’ kinda feeling right from the very start. You really get pulled into the thick of some very strong willed characters which adds to the excitement. This is a first for me when it comes to Elle Croft but I will certainly be downloading her others now. Bravo! |

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Excellent book there is nothing negative that I can say about it. I would definitely recommend this read. |
I hve read all of this book, but to be honest I did not really enjoy it. I felt that the characterization was a bit off to say the least. The only person I felt was even remotely likeable was Dylan. The rest I felt deserved all that they got. It was a very convoluted storyline and it certainly had an unexpected ending, if rather implausible to my mind. Not to my taste, sorry |
Sadly I just didnt connect with this one. It wasn't a book I felt I could overly invest in. The characters just aren't likeable, it all just felt implausible and the twist at the end, whilst I didnt see it coming was just awful. Just a bit bleurgh for me. 1.5* Thanks to netgalley and Orion Publishing for the ARC. |
This is a thriller that really keeps you on your toes as adoptive mum Kat really loves her sixteen year old daughter Imogen but deep down she fears that nature rather than nurture is going to affect the person she is, quite an issue when Imogen’s biologically mum is a serial killer. Told from both Kat and Imogen’s perspectives it depicts how Kat's deep rooted fears have affected Imogen and left her vulnerable, you can really understand both perspectives and have no way of knowing how this story will play out. I loved the ending, fabulous concept and it sent a shiver down my spine! |
Thanks to Netgalley for the preview of this book. It was yet another gripping and exciting read from Croft. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it |
I never repeat the blurb. Very quick and easy read...not particularly likeable characters not a story to become overly invested in. |
Shame Elle doesn't write more books coz they're just brilliant. An unusual storyline which I always love. There was one particular scene which I actually felt emotional along with the woman (wont say who or what the occasion was) but that was very good. Well done. An all round belter! You can't help but be swept along, I just wanna know ... when's the next book out? |
This is another great book by Elle Croft. Kat has two daughters, Imogen and Jemima. She treats and loves them both equally. However, There is a secret- Imogen’s birth mum is a serial killer and Imogen’s past is about to catch up with her. Kat has to step up and save her daughters from the past and the future. This is a fast paced psychological thriller and I love the way it is told from all different perspectives. The way it is written keeps you guessing to the very end, there is a huge twist which really made the book for me as I really didn’t expect it. |
Sorry 35% the way through and this really failed to gain my interest. Unable to rate based on this, which is a shame as I found the same with the guilty wife but it turned out to be a good storyline. |
Kat and Dylan have two daughters. Jemima and Imogen. Kat tries to treat the girls equally despite the fact that one of them was adopted. The story is told from the perspective of 3 woman, Kat, Imogen and Imogen's birth mother Sally who is currently residing in a womans correctional institution after committing the most horrific crimes. This is my 2nd Elle Croft to read and I honestly cant get enough! This book is an original and thrilling page-Turner with an ending you wont see coming! Just when you think you have it figured out and it's just like any other psychological thriller out there she floors you with an epic twist! I highly recommend this and other Elle Croft books. Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to review this book. |

Thanks netgalley for allowing me to read this book, you really have been a life saver to me in these terrible times during lockdown. Yes I enjoyed this rather sad story, A sadistic family who have children either to starve, beat and then kill them if they do not behave, and bury these children under a rose bush. The family are brought to justice and two of the children a boy and a girl were put up For adoption. Kat the lady who adopted the girl left the boy as she did not want two children, that was a bad mistake. Imogen the daughter never knew she was adopted until her brother got in touch with her and told her all about her family. |

I found like mother, like daughter to be a real page turner which had me gripped. I enjoyed the different perspectives and I just flew through the book. It’s shocking with lots of twists I highly recommend. |

This started to make me cringe from quite early on, from where Kat has to go to the school to collect her daughter after she has attacked another pupil. All this thinking in the car, just way over done. The kidnap of Imogen and her mother's attempts to find her without the police made me want to scream, it wouldn't work like that. None of it was plausible and the twist at the end, while I didn't see it coming, was terrible. I felt the author was grabbing at things to try and shock you, it did but only by how bad this was. The writing itself was OK, the plot didn't work for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher in return for an honest review. |
I flew through this book it just gripped me right from the start and with some real twists and an ending that totally took me by surprise it’s a read that I completely enjoyed. Told from the perspectives of Kat, Sally and Imogen it’s a thrill of a ride filled with clues that are so cleverly placed it made for a compulsive page turner and what with that shock ending it asked the question of nature versus nurture so well. Loved the way the book was written, loved the well crafted characters and loved the fact that this was a bit different from the norm. So an excellent read and one I can highly recommend and a not to be missed read in my opinion and I will be on the lookout for more books by Elle Croft in the future. My thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. |
Such a huge page turner. Loved this book and couldn't put it down. Really enjoying books that are from all different perspectives. An amazing twisty read... |

I could not put this book down! Totally gripping, full of twists and turns, building to a crescendo and then an absolute brilliant, unexpected climax. So clever. Absolutely loved this book. Would highly recommend. My thanks to Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review honestly. |
I flew through this. Different perspectives and a fast paced plot make a really easy read! I wanted to explore nature versus nuture- does having serial killers for parents make you violent? Or does the prejudice of your adoptive parents and their treatment make you violent? I think this could have been explored in more detail. The pace was good, plot and characters kept me engaged. A good thriller! |
Like Mother Like Daughter was one of those page turner reads, where the pace is pretty perfect and the story unfolding extremely intriguing. The premise on which it rests- adoption of the child of a killer and thereafter being concerned she might turn out like her mother- allows for a layered domestic drama which Elle Croft manages well, plenty of twisty moments and written beautifully. The 3 way narrative keeps things moving, there's a healthy dose of unpredictability and overall it's a read in one sitting piece of literary entertainment. Recommended. |

This was a really great book, told from three perspectives of Kat, Imogen and Sally. Kat loves her daughter but is disturbed by her change in behaviour after she disappears one day, you know something is going on and there is a big secret but not what to begin with, as the story goes on the picture becomes clearer and you learn more about their lives and what has gone before. Sally is trapped but has some strong links to the outside which become a big part of the story. As history unfolds this tells an interesting story around nature and nurture and the true nature of people. There are some brilliant twists and it was difficult to put down. Some great cliff hangers where you find yourself holding your breath as you turn the page and some great psychological insight into the minds of others and how they have been damaged. The ending is one of the best I have read for ages, leaving though-provoking questions around whether people are born evil or nurtured to be that way. Highly recommended, this book should be the first off your to be read pile! |
