This story is about Jake, an ex-Navy SEAL and Aria, a pediatric surgeon who met in The Way of the Brave, the previous book in this series. Jake and Aria have returned to Minnesota and resumed their lives, he as part of a search and rescue team and she as a pediatric surgeon. When Aria is forced to attend a conference in Florida, she accidentally sends a strange text to Jake, causing him to hop a plane to Miami in search of Aria in the Florida Keys. When Jake locates Aria, they face an incredibly dangerous situation, along with several other people.
This novel contains non-stop action and high octane situations where both Jake and Aria will need the use of their specialized skills to survive. As a reader, I found myself on the edge of my seat, white knuckling my tablet as the suspense built. Even though this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone book. The Heart of a Hero ends well for Jake and Aria, while leading into the next book about Ham and Signe.
Susan May Warren is a master storyteller and I can't wait to dive into her other novels. 5 stars!

The Heart of a Hero (Global Search and Rescue #2). By Susan May Warren. 2020. Revell (ARC eBook).

Jake Silver, a former Navy SEAL and current member of Jones Inc., a global search and rescue outfit, has been recouping at his family house since retirement and the latest rescue mission. The resuce was in Denali, where a group of hikers were stranded in the cold mountains. There Jake rescues Dr. Aria Sinclair and he felt they had a moment. Presently, Aria is attending a get-together at the Silver house and she all but ignores Jake.

Wanting to get her mind off the charming and exciting Jake, Aria attends a medical conference in Key West. But forgetting Jake isn’t in the cards when a Category 4 hurricane hits. Because when Jake shows up to find Aria, it isn’t just the water, wind and bad elements wandering the island in the aftermath that has Aria’s heart and adrenaline pumping.

This was my introduction to Warren and I really enjoyed Jake and Aria’s story, as well as the side story that developed involving Jake’s boss Ham and his 10-year-old daughter Aggie. So Jake and Aria’s story did have a set-up in book 1, but The Heart of a Hero can be read as a stand alone. There is plenty of action and healing. Both Jake and Aria struggle with memories of tragedies in each of their childhoods, as well as Jake’s time as a SEAL sniper. They are both good, strong people dedicated to their jobs, but together they are able to help each other heal from feelings of shame and guilt. They just have to lower their walls first. A definite recommend for readers looking for engaging characters in precarious situations discovering a renewed faith in themselves and God.

I want to be careful with this review and not give away any spoilers of this story. After reading many of Susan May Warren’s books, I’ve come to the conclusion that every book she writes is going to be excellent. I love the action in this story and the characters are fabulous. It’s a pleasure to read a book this well-written and inspiring. The faith theme to all this author’s books raise them to another level. This is a great series—-I’m looking forward to reading more!

Heart of a Hero is the 2nd novel in the Global Search and Rescue series. I did not read the 1st in the series, The Way of the Brave (#1) but the author did a good job of giving the backstory so this book can stand on its own. I think the characters were well developed. This is action-packed- almost too much happening. As I read it I kept asking when are moving on to something else because it seemed danger lurked around each corner. Jake, former Navy Seal, and Aria, a surgeon, find a way to have a romance during a life threatening hurricane in a hospital being destroyed by flood and winds. The romance and action makes this book a great read.

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC for my honest opinion.

Susan May Warren give her raders a heart stopping thriller that has us on the edge of our seats the entire book, and The Heart of a Hero is one of the same! Former Navy Seal Jack Silver will do whatever it takes to rescue people, especially those he loves. I enjoyed getting to know Jack and the way his character develops throughout the story. As for Aria, with her medical condition I'm not sure I would be as brave to do the daredevil stuff she did. I was afraid for her a few times.

Jack and Aria take readers on a journey that you won't forget for a long time. The dangers, the fears, the suspense and the heart wrenching fast pace action drawn issues in this series, with faith and the Christian life in the lives of her characters is so Susan May Warren! I love her.books, and this one is highly recommended!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

They are on a collision course for danger...

As much as I've enjoyed Susan May Warren's books in the past I think this may be the first time I've read one essentially in a single sitting. Yes, it's true, I finished The Heart Of A Hero in the wee hours of the morning

I was a bit surprised by The Heart Of Hero, and, because of that, I think actually like it better than book one in the Global Search And Rescue series. I've gotten pretty used to Susan May Warren delving deep into the emotions of her characters, and thus her readers, but there was some serious gritty romantic suspense, with some almost Ronie Kendig vibes, going on in this book. Not that the story didn't tug on the heart-strings, because it did. Aria and Jake both feel like they have to atone for the past, that they are less important than the loved ones they've lost, and that they are not really worthy of forgiveness or love. I think that most readers have felt at least one of those negative emotions/thoughts at one time or another. And like the characters we have to work through those emotions and the accompanying denial.

Susan May Warren's second book in her Global Search And Rescue series has a touch of everything in it and readers are treated to a roller-coaster ride of romance, loss, poignant moments, tragedy, humor, adventure, family fun, and spine-tingling action. You'll probably laugh a little and cry a little while reading The Heart Of A Hero...

Another amazing sequel! I couldn’t wait to hear their story! We were left with a hot scene in book 1 and I couldn’t wait to see how their relationship to form. Not only did I not see how the storm would affect their relationship but also affect the relationship with those that got caught in the storm. I laughed and cried and felt the love. Can’t wait for book 3.

A brilliant race to survive. Man against nature story with so many layers. Excellent story that ends with a bang and sweetness. I couldn't quit reading!

The Heart of a Hero was even more amazing than I had hoped. After reading book one, The Way of the Brave, and seeing the way Jake's story had ended...I couldn't wait to start this and find out what happened next!

The story was intense; constant danger and wondering what was going to occur in the following pages. I kept being drawn into reading "one more chapter"...until I had finished. lol

With great characters, a sweet romance, and excellent writing, I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Heart of a Hero and recommend it. I can't wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this adventurous book. Warren is new to me, and I was intrigued by the hurricane setting. As a native North Carolinian, I've survived my fair share of hurricanes ... but never have I had a hunky SEAL like Jake Silver to get me through the storm.

Sadly, I feel like we are getting very similar dialogue, angst and plot - characters are predictable. I’ve read almost every book by this author and perhaps there is no more new?

We get a different geographical location, and different weather related disaster- but overall I’m reading the same lines over and over.

3 stars

A True Hero!

Susan May Warren never disappoints! This story is another great addition to the Global Search and Rescue series. I loved the characters of Jake and Aria. They were both willing to put everything on the line to help others. Jake is definitely the kind of hero that makes a story great.

I also love how Warren combines storylines from a previous series. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

The second book in Susan May Warren's Global Search and Rescue series has released, and this time readers get to hang on for a ride through a Category 5 Hurricane filled with more than just problems from the weather. So buckle up and get ready for an adventurous story about Aria and Jake.

This book is definitely packed with adventure. Once the storms start, it seems like they blow through one after another. Aria and Jake both have a lot of past baggage. The author does a good job helping the reader to see the internal struggle both Aria and Jake have with the heavy guilt they have unsuccessfully tried to overcome. I appreciated the wisdom shared with Aria and Jake from other minor characters throughout the story. It was encouraging. I also enjoyed the second story weaved throughout this book about Ham and what happened with Signe. This is an interesting mystery that keeps the reader guessing. I enjoyed reading this book and thought it was a fun, engaging story.

Just as I expected—Susan May Warren does not disappoint with The Heart of a Hero. I still haven’t read The Way of the Brave, and though I know the series is likely more enjoyable when read in order, I still enjoyed this second Global Search and Rescue book immensely.

Disaster finds former sniper and Navy SEAL Jake Silver and pediatric heart surgeon Aria Sinclair once again. Aria heads to Florida for vacation—just in time for a dangerous hurricane to bear down on the area. Of course, Jake cannot let her face it alone.

As the pair faces the challenges of the disaster, their story proves to be action-packed and exciting—with sweet threads of romance and faith. There is a lot to love about The Heart of a Hero, and I cannot wait to read more of the series.

Susan May Warren's second book in the Global Search and Rescue series. Fantastic author!
Jake Silver is an ex-Navy Seal who now works for Jones Inc. Jake is a hero-type who jumps into danger impulsively. He would gladly risk his own life to save another. He has a past. He blames himself for the loss of his younger sister-something that happened when they were kids. Maybe this is his need to rescue others now. He helped rescue Aria Sinclair on Denali. They got quite close there, but things ended rather abruptly.
Aria is a top-notch pediatric heart surgeon. Her career choice, also, stems from her past. Being born with a defective heart, and sitting alone watching the other children play was tough. She lives with the fact that she now lives a very productive, although very lonely, life because inside her chest beats the heart of someone near and dear to her. With that comes guilt.
Aria has barely just arrived in the Florida Keys when a hurricane strikes. Who, but Jake shows up to rescue her!
Loved this story! Action packed story with a happy ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Revell and NetGalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.

Best-selling author Susan May Warren continues her action-packed romantic suspense series with this second book in her latest series.

In The Heart of a Hero, ruggedly handsome and equally dangerous Jake Silver uses his miltary skills as a part of Jones Inc. Rescue Team. He can’t forget He also can’t forget his memories as a Navy SEAL, or pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair, whose life he saved on Denali (see The Way of the Brave). When he discovers Aria is in the path of a hurricane headed towards Key West, he can’t resist trying to rescue her, even if she thinks she doesn’t need him.

Aria dedicates herself to helping children with defective hearts, especially since she had a heart transplant. Aria drives herself to succeed professionally, and pushes herself to live the life her donor would have lived by engaging in challenging physical activities like mountain climbing. Both Jake and Aria are drawn to one another, but also to saving others. What happens when they are stranded on the Keys with no way off, and a Cat-4 hurricane is headed for them?

Reading The Heart of a Hero is like riding a roller coaster – one can barely catch one’s breath when the next sharp turn or big drop happens! Like Warren’s other books, this one has faith journeys, adventure, suspense, romance, AND realistic & flawed characters whose stories captivate the reader from the first page. Readers will be engaged until the very end, which includes a tease for the next book in this series, The Price of Valor, coming later.
