Aria Sinclair is still recovering from a harrowing mountain rescue when she gets caught in a category 4 hurricane. Miraculously Jake shows up and they ride out the storm with a handful of people who also didn't make it off the island. There are plenty of trials and troubles. Life-threatening danger hovers around every corner.

I appreciated Mimi's words to Aria, "Don't you worry about a thing. God always shows up in a storm" (location 1430). Timely words for us all as we go through a global pandemic.

Jake and Aria both have incredible issues to work through but they make real headway as they allow others to speak into their lives. Relationships with people who go through the storms with us can develop quickly. I appreciated how the group all worked together and sacrificed for one another. It made me cry. It was so moving.

I would highly recommend this book and this series. Warren does a great job of getting things prepped for the next book and I can't wait to read more of Ham's story. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

In this fast-paced romantic suspense novel, Ms. Warren picks up not long after the first novel in this series. In the previous book, you meet Jake, one of the main characters in this novel. Jake and Aria bonded on the mountain, but everything changed once they returned home. Aria leaves to go to a medical conference. Unbeknownst to her, there is a hurricane headed her way. Jake discovers she is in danger and races to get there. This book has continuous issues that occur and cause Jake and Aria problems that put them in danger. Readers will want to allow for time to start this book and read until the finish. You will be that engaged in the story! Both Jake and Aria have their own fears that they must work through in this book. As always, Ms. Warren writes a suspenseful novel that intertwines faith and God throughout the book. Readers will be encouraged and inspired by the conclusion of the book. I highly recommend this book! This book can be read as a stand-alone book, but readers will benefit from reading the first book in the series as well. I can not wait for the final book in this series!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

Susan May Warren has done it again. She has packed The Heart of a Hero so full of action it is almost a surprise when she starts to wind down the story. It's almost as though she could keep on writing, but even she realizes all stories have to end somewhere. This story is the second in the Global Search and Rescue Series. It is highly recommended that you read the first book because a lot of material mentioned in this book is explained there in more detail.

The male protagonist in this book, Jake, is pretty great. He is the ultimate hero type with a soft side. Readers will be excited to follow his path to renewed faith and confidence and possibly love. This story is full of all sorts of situations in which Jake must rise up and protect others. He is a guy who can get things done.

Warren's writing style makes it easy for readers to come along on adventures, but also invites readers into the minds and emotions of her characters. Reading this book is not what one might call an easy read, because it has many intense moments--some physical and some emotional. The ending certainly leaves room for the reader to look forward to the next book.

The Heart of a Hero was full of action-packed adventure as the story picked up with Jake and Aria, who definitely had some romantic moments in book one, The Way of the Brave. Things just seem to keep going wrong for these two! I loved that this book’s title truly embodied Jake. He was so completely a hero and couldn’t help but give his all for Aria and anyone else who needed him.

Jake and Aria had some huge issues and burdens from their pasts that impacted them. They both had big journeys to take, emotionally and spiritually, in order to get past what held them down. I loved seeing their hearts for each other, and especially the way Jake fell completely for Aria.

The side story featuring Ham was very interesting and I am definitely excited to read the next book in the series. The Global Search and Rescue series is a series that needs to be read in order and even ties into the Montana Marshalls series with some overlapping events. I’m loving finding out more and more details with every book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

How does Susan May Warren keep coming up with more exciting and dangerous situations! Such a great story! Former SEAL Jake Silver is rescuing Dr Aria Sinclair again! Aria refuses to leave an elderly lady when an island is evacuated preceding a hurricane but she does not expect all of the events that follow! Nor does she expect so many other people to have been left behind including inmates from a prison. You'll learn why Jake blames himself that his little sister is no longer part of their family and how Aria feels about her transplanted heart! Experience danger and romance with The Heart of a Hero ! I received an advance copy of this book from Revell Books and NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

Ever since finishing The Way of the Brave, the first book in Susan May Warren’s Global Search and Rescue series, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the second installment. The Heart of a Hero follows pediatric cardio surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair to Key West, Florida on what should be a vacation. Away from the loss of a patient. Away from the trauma she faced in Alaska (in The Way of the Brave). And especially away from Jake Sinclair

Jake Sinclair can’t get Aria out of his head. He knows he messed up with how he left things with her in Alaska. So, when he learns a hurricane is headed for Key West and Aria is directly in its path, he boards the next plane to Miami. He’s a SEAL, a rescuer, and has no problem running straight into danger. Especially to save someone he cares about.

I love Susan May Warren’s writing! She has an amazing way of drawing the reader into the story. Of keeping the suspense high, not just with action, but with the tension between the two main characters. The Heart of a Hero is no different. And while the place between the middle and the ramp up to the ending uncharacteristically lulled a bit, I still desperately wanted to know how things would work out between Aria and Jake.

What also struck me most while reading The Heart of a Hero was how much it felt like I was weathering the hurricane with them. The building of the storm, the danger, the winds, the water. It was truly masterful writing. And, the characters have many layers to them, especially Jake.

I enjoyed The Heart of a Hero for so many reasons. The one downside is you should read The Way of the Brave before you read The Heart of a Hero or it will feel like your’re missing a chunk of the story (because you are). However, it’s not really a downside because The Way of the Brave is a phenomenal story, too! The trilogy concludes with Ham’s story (who you will especially get to know in The Heart of a Hero) and I can’t wait!

Susan May Warren delivers in a big way with the second in her Global Search and Rescue series. The Heart of a Hero is a fast, intense, adventurous read with all the feels.

After a crazy adventure on the snow-capped mountains of Alaska, Jake Silver is having trouble moving on from the feelings he has for Dr. Aria Sinclair. He and his team helped rescue her and her friends after their expedition went horrible wrong. Jake is trying to move on from Aria and his time as a Navy SEAL to start working as part of a rescue team. Aria heads down to Key West to speak at a medical conference when a hurricane hits, stranding her in Florida trying to help others. When Jake hears of the hurricane and Aria being in danger, he can’t help himself. He jumps on a plane and heads to once again rescue the woman he can’t get out of his head.

Susan May Warren has done it again! Just when I think she is at her peak for creating the most entertaining and adventurous story, she outdoes herself. The Heart of a Hero, the second edition to the Global Search and Rescue series, picks up where the first left off. This time readers get to dive deep into the lives of Jake and Aria. In the beginning, I was thinking this one wasn’t going to be as action packed as the first installment as it took a little longer for the action to start but once it did there was no stopping it. Even though it took a little bit to get going, the end had me glued to my seat, it was so well written with tension at all the right places.

Aria is a strong capable woman but does have a lot of issues to work through. She is a perfect character for readers to be able to relate to. Her drive to help others, even at the expense of her own happiness, is obvious. You can easily see that in her heart she wants to be with Jake but doesn’t feel she is worthy of anything good.

With most romantic suspense writers, there is a formula used and if you read a lot of romantic suspense it doesn’t take long to figure out that formula. Once you have figured that out the books become less enjoyable. Susan May Warren is one of the best Romantic Suspense authors I have read because just when I think she is starting to follow that formula she surprises me with the next story. She puts her characters in hard spots and makes them work to get out of them. It isn’t easy and usually very messy, but in the end, she uses their mess to portray a beautiful message to readers. If you have never read Susan May Warren and you love romantic suspense adventures, you are missing out. I would recommend reading the first in this series before diving into this one to get the back story of the characters and fully enjoy the story.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

od showed up in the storms. And saved-not from the disaster, but through it, even when she couldn't see the shore.

The above quote was made by a very wise character is this great story. As typical of Susan May Warren, there is lots of action, suspense, danger, romance, and faith. Jake Silver followed Aria Sinclair from Minnesota to Key West where she was attending a medical conference when he heard about a hurricane headed her way. That's what he does. He heads toward danger, not away. Jake and Aria met in the first Global Search and Rescue story when Jake and two of his friends rescued Aria and two of her friends from Denali during a blizzard. The two have unfinished business.
As Hurricane Lucy heads toward the Keys, highways are crowded with evacuees but they don't make it out. And the two had a wild time when they are stuck in a hospital in Key West with other people caught in the storm. Between the storm and other problems, there is much to deal with. This is another edge of the seat read and great addition to the series. A side story that involves Jake's boss Hamilton Jones is going on when he finds out that he has a ten year old daughter by his wife that he thought was dead. That story is ongoing.
Having lived through a Cat 5 storm when Hurricane Michael hit the Florida panhandle where I live on October 10, 2018, this is a story that I can say I lived through really. The above quote really has meaning for me. Our community still has not recovered. We had 60 to 80 year old pines fall in our yard and could see them fall but not hear them for the noise of the storm. Our north facing windows were blown and the wind stucked the deadbolted front door open. We had water, shingles, insulation, leaves and debris inside our house. Afterwards, our neighbors walked out in shock connecting with each other. Our small neighborhood was landlocked by downed trees and water across the streets. No power or water for close to two weeks. Surreal, indeed!

Susan May Warren has another winner in this her lasted book. Well written plot with well developed characters. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. A real page turner. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.

If you are looking for a fast paced, edge of your seat, action packed adventure, look no further than Susan May Warren’s newest novel The Heart of a Hero. This second book in Warren’s Global Search and Rescue series takes up immediately where the previous book concludes, so you will want to make sure to have read that first to fully appreciate the characters and plot of this one. And true to Warren’s style, this story is cover to cover action, with twists, turns, and danger the entire way through.

Set in the middle of a hurricane in the Florida Keys, this book centers on our hero and heroine Jake and Aria. While I felt their romance moved a little too swiftly, Warren did an excellent job of developing her characters and redeem-ing them in spite of their flaws. Warren’s characters are always relatable, and she has a gift of presenting the mes-sage of hope, forgiveness, and identity in Christ in the midst of utter devastation.

I always look forward to a new Susan May Warren book. She is not an author to be missed!

First thank you, Susan May Warren for writing another beautiful story. I did not want it to end.

Aria met Jake when the rock climb she went on with her girlfriends went horribly wrong and they got stuck on a mountain & Jake and his friends were called in to rescue them. Jake & Aria ended up stuck together on the side of that mountain for 2 additional days. But since then they had no contact with one another even though they live very close to each other.

Now Aria and Jake are attending the birthday party for the daughter of one of their mutual friends. While there they talk a little and Jake suggests that she take a vacation so she enrolls for the medical conference being held in Miami. Sun & fun! But Aria has not been watching the news or weather. But once she sees clouds start moving into the area she realizes that this could be bad.

Jake"s family is watching the news and the coverage of the hurricane and Jake immediately starts calling Aria but she is not answering. After a few more calls he makes the decision to hop a flight and go down. Once down there he immediately begins searching for her.

Aria refused to leave on what turned out to be the last chopper, instead choosing to stay behind for 2 ladies she met that could not travel. Once he finds Aria they look for a place to hold up and that place ended up being the hospital where the medical conference was held and where he found Aria helping to evacuate & just as the chopper leaves again ( with the promise it returns for her) Jake shows up and a couple of people who could not travel. Jake was slightly stunned, she had chosen to remain.

While Aria and Jake are working together to help the people who stayed behind, the chemistry and attraction they feel continues to grow. Will they be able to get out of their own way to let God work in them both individually and as a couple?

Susan's characters are dynamic, strong and have a lot of personality. The way she dealt with the subject of self forgiveness was was well thought out and presented in a way that it makes you think about things you need to address in your own life.

I'm so glad I finally got to read Jake and Aria's story! The second book in Susan May Warren's Global Search and Rescue series was full of everything I love. Action, suspense, and romance. Pediatric heart surgeon, Aria Sinclair, and former Navy-Seal, Jake Silver are brought back together again while a hurricane wreaks havoc on Key West. A fight for survival and a second chance will either destroy them or make them stronger. Susan May Warren does a fantastic job of weaving past, present, and future characters that will leave you wanting more!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion

Jake and Aria connected in Alaska when he helped rescue her and her friends on Denali. But Aria had no use for such a man in her life - much too dangerous - so she ran away and pretended it had never happened. Then a text message went to Jake instead of her friend Jenny... With a category 5 hurricane about to hit Key West, where Aria had travelled for a medical conference, Jake hurries in to find her - and ends up trapped with her and several others in the local hospital, where Aria had taken one of the local women to care for her when they missed the evacuation. But both Aria and Jake have baggage from their past that makes them feel unworthy in different ways - even if they make it safely through the hurricane, can they overcome their pasts and make a future together?

An exciting, inspiring and uplifting story, with characters that you really come to care about. There's plenty of action, but it doesn't feel over the top (some books have me rolling my eyes and trying to work out what will go wrong next, but this didn't feel like that), and the switching between characters was done well and generally avoided confusion. All in all, it's a great story that manages to combine adventure with deep conversations and spiritual insights. Highly recommended.

As is typical with this author's series, the books are not fully standalone - in this case, Jake and Aria get their story worked out, but Ham's story is obviously going to run across the full series. So readers are generally advised to read the full series, in order, but as long as you ignore much of Ham's story, this book could be enjoyed on its own.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

I thought The Way of the Brave was wonderful introduction to the Hamilton Jones Rescue Team. Now I think Global Search and Rescue is the best series that Susan May Warren has written with The Heart of a Hero. This book has an entirely different setting from the first book but of course, it would because of the “Global” in the series title. Still it has many of the same characters. The characters go from an arctic environment in the first book to mostly tropical in this book. Such a well written story that I could almost feel the wind and rain, visualizing the storm damage it all caused, and sharing the uncertain fear of the characters.

Two characters, Aria and Jake, who met in the first book are highlighted in this story with a subplot on another member of the team. That subplot is not completed but instead the overarching mystery there increases by the conclusion. Never fear, Jake and Aria’s story is completed here with not cliffhanger. Within Jake’s story there is third subplot that I am hoping is not finished concerning Jake’s family. I had hoped that a character that Aira and Jake met would be part of the solution to that but not in this book. I also think that while there are strong ties to the first book, a new reader to the series could read this one with no problem, any background that is needed is given without sounding repetitive if like me you have read the first book.

As for this story Aria and Jake have such a wild ride with more than one brush with death. It was like a Die Hard movie with one big difference - God’s presence is clearly seen. So it is better than any Hollywood action movie out there. Just when I think that all is safe, danger comes calling again.

Excellent writing with no loose ends just those mysteries whose time has not come to be solved. Fabulous foreshadowing which of course, I never catch until later when I think that’s why the character noticed this or said that. These characters are real with some flawed thinking but find God’s love, grace and help is enough.

First-rate from beginning to end. I find it difficult to find the words to express how much I have learned to love the members of the team and their families. Now I can’t wait for book three.

The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

Okay, so I have to start by saying that I cannot wait for the next book. This book not only set up the scene for the next book but left what I hope is a side story that will be tied up in it.

This was full of action and mystery. I really enjoyed it and it was a nice, clean read. The overall themes are of grace and forgiveness. I suspect that most people on the planet can relate to not feeling enough at some point in their lives.

I got this for free in exchange for an honest review. Would I buy it? Yes I would and I will buy the next one.. Just be prepared not to want to do anything else except read.

Poor kid. Why would her mother pretend to be dead?

Oh jeez. And Ham was watching.

Why does he need his father's forgiveness? Who's Hannah?

I liked Ham's storyline better.

Picking up just one week after the events of the previous book in the series, The Way of the Brave, The Heart of a Hero follows Jake and Aria as they are pushed to their limits and their skills challenged by the devastation of a Category 4 hurricane on a populated island.

I loved how this book digs deeper into who Jake and Aria are beneath all the layers, beyond who others perceive them as well as the pressures and standards that they hold for themselves. Jake has a reputation as something of a player, but under it all he is a courageous and honorable man, I admired how he was ready to jump into the fray and do what needed to be done. Aria is cautious, yet has been walking more on the wild side in recent years, I loved her passion for serving others.

I also liked how we get to see a different side of Ham, as he is faced with life changing revelations, we see a softer side of him. I am figuratively dying to read his story! We also meet Mimi and Yola who are fantastic friends to Aria and Jake, I loved Mimi's steady faith and words of encouragement.

This author never disappoints, I haven't ever read a book by her that I don't like, and this one is no exception. Jake and Aria are thrust into the heart of a natural disaster, and I liked how they come to trust one another and how they both grow over the course of the book. There is a lot going on, with one thing after another, making this book pretty much impossible to put down. A fast paced, tension fraught read, with fantastic protagonists that I couldn't help but cheer for all the way through. Would definitely recommend reading The Way of the Brave first as Jake and Aria's story starts there, and reading it before this one adds a lot more context. Highly recommend this series.
