The writing was great but the plot wasn’t. I’m not a huge fan of psychics so that kind of did me in. I’d be interested in reading more by this author and giving them a second chance. I think they have great potential.

I don't know what to say about this book.
I was expecting something else. I didn't see a plot. Just didn't sit right.
Writing is great, but book isn't.

This was a decent read. It was light and quick to read. Lucy was likable and fun to follow for the most part. The overall plot was good. I recommend.

This was a sweet, heart warming women’s fiction book. I loved the travel aspect. An amazing debut and I can’t wait to see what the author writes next.

The psychic at her sister’s ‘80s themed wedding tells Lucy her life will begin soon, she only needs to stop ignoring “the signs”. But what signs?! After discovering that her newlywed sister didn’t cancel her backup reservation at The Chaizer London, a premium honeymoon hotel, Lucy decides this is just the sort of sign that psychic was talking about, with a little urging from her BFF Mary.

Lucy is 26, single, & living in Boston, working as a teacher. She’s the reliable one. She has never been anywhere. So her large family, especially her overbearing mother and overprotective big brother, are alarmed when she calls from the airport informing them she’s going to London for the Christmas holiday!

London at Christmas seems magical. Lucy encounters a familiar face, an annoying hotel concierge, a few new acquaintances, and a possible a love interest during her time in jolly ol’ London until a criminal investigation hits a little too close to her home away from home. The story feels like a love letter to London and moves along at a good pace, even if Lucy’s family is rather annoying and the staff at this supposed premier hotel feel totally unprofessional. This was fun!

What a cute story! I mean, who wouldn’t take the advice of a wedding psychic? All in all a great story with a decent “happily ever after.”

Honeymoon alone had so much potential to be a great fun read. The writing was excellent but the plot was... I’m sure if this is the best word for it but.. Strange? Fantastical?

I won’t give a lot away but the main character finds herself in sort of a caper.

If you have nothing else to read go ahead but otherwise go ahead and skip this one.0

Honeymoon Alone was a cute, fun, easy read. Definitely gave me rom-com vibes which is always a plus in my book. The book made me wish for a trip to London! I enjoyed reading Honeymoon Alone and would recommend it to others that love a good rom-com!

Everything in this book that I liked, I really liked--from the vintage-loving, buttoned-down heroine Lucy, her cat named Ricky (Ricardo), traveling spontaneously, London during the holidays, and Lucy's various friends and love interests. However, I HAAAAAATED her co-dependent, smothering, concern-trolling family. I lived in Boston for 5 years, and I get that tight-knit, in-your-business families (and never traveling outside New England) are totally A THING, culture-wise, but a lawyer with a pregnant wife flying overseas, unannounced, to bring back his adult sister from her vacation 2 days early seems... unlikely and/or insane.

Anyway, it's a low-stress read (unless crazy families spike your blood pressure!). I look forward to more from this author.

The perfect escape from this world we currently live in. A great beach read too!! Just enough character development, lots of romance (but not too graphic), humor and a tiny mystery-that is very, very easy to solve. This one will just make you feel good and root for love. Lucy has never done anything crazy, so when a psychic at her sister's wedding tells her to look and follow the signs for love, Lucy does just that. She uses her sister's extra honeymoon reservation to London as an excuse to follow the signs and change up her life. Little does Lucy know that she will change everything for the better!

I love love LOVED this story! Lucy never does anything spontaneous and then books a trip to London and sure finds herself some adventure!
I love the friendships, the family dynamic, and, of course, the love aspect.
I was totally transported to the places Lucy was seeing and I find her character to be so fun! She is naive, sheltered, and genuinely gets excited of some pretty basic things - which we all should!
A great story about living life, taking chances, and showing that you truly don’t know what could happen!!

Firstly thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC of this book, I've had this waiting for a while on my Kindle and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. That being said, there were a few formatting issues. At one point, I did consider DNFR it, but once we got past the worst part it was just a few spaces missing between words, which I could deal with.

On the whole I really enjoyed this book, and it was not what I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised!

I loved Lucy as a character, I thought Macaulay really let her personality shine through this book in the way she behaved and we got to see her grow as time progressed. At 26, Lucy is hounded by her family at gatherings as to when she's going to settle down and start a family, and I applaud the author for bringing this into the book. Women are constantly questioned when they're going to have a baby or start a family, like just let us LIVE PEOPLE.

I also loved how Lucy interacted with her family and her best friend Mary. It was clear through the pages how much they loved each other and how tight knit they were. P.S. Mary is a joy, we all need a friend like her.

Now I've finished the book I can say that the plot was not what I was expecting at all.

When I first started reading it did come across very twee and tourist-y, once Lucy arrived in London, and that would have put me off had it not been for the introduction of Cary and Oliver, our two other main characters.

Macaulay cleverly weaves a web of deception, at no point throughout the book did I guess the ending... But when you look back all the clues were there and you almost kick yourself for not guessing it to begin with.

I did think this would be some twee romance novel, set in London with some dashing British man whisking Lucy off her feet... It was so much more than that. Every word written, and every chapter presented to us was a clever web of deception and cover ups.

I was completely in shock over the ending.

I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was the first time I have read anything by this author. I have to say I more than likely will read many more by her after completing the book. This was such a fun book to read. We all could use an uplifting read during a time when we are all sheltering in place and not able to leave our homes. I love the description of her vacation to London and the detail she described as it reminded me of a trip I took there several years ago. If you were looking for an easy quick read than this book is absolutely for you. .

Thank you Netgalley for this oportunity to read and review this book!

When irrepressibly romantic Lucy Gray is ditched at said wedding by her date in front of her whole family, the promises of a psychic seem better than her pity-riddled reality. The psychic's advice seems insightful: stop ignoring fate's signs - fate will lead you to love. But when "fate" leads Lucy to London, she finds herself tangled in a web of lies. In a story about finding independence and taking chances, Lucy learns that leaving everything up to fate can be dangerous - and jeopardize her chances at happily ever after.
Very light, fun and engaging read. The characters were great and the story was wonderful! I loved the descriptions of Lucy's trip to London, and the ending was great! I would recomend it to all romance readers who love a happy ending!

What a great book! Just be warned you will want to book a trip to Europe, specifically London and Paris, which isn't a bad thing. The book is well written with great character development and chemistry between the characters.

This was a super cute, romantic comedy type read.

This felt like a Hallmark Christmas movie in the best way possible.

A very enjoyable romance I would recommend checking out.

A special thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

For 26-year-old teacher Lucy Gray, life revolves around her family, friends, and her grade three students. Lucy is dependable and responsible, she always puts everyone's needs before her own.

At her sister's 80s themed wedding, Lucy gets ditched by her fake date (a coworker who is pretending to be her boyfriend) after he makes out with her cousin in the photo booth. The only highlight is the psychic who advises Lucy to follow fate and listen to what the universe is telling her.

Lucy decides last minute to take a trip to London—the very trip her sister booked as a honeymoon plan B. The only problem is that she has to pretend to be her sister. That should be easy, right?

In London, Lucy's getaway is more complicated to pull off that she imagined. As the lies are piling up, she struggles to follow the signs. Lucy is learning that leaving everything to chance can not only be dangerous, but can also jeopardize her happily ever after.

With relatable and endearing characters, new author Nicole Macaulay has penned a charming book! Her writing is sharp and funny—there is so much witty banter. Although the premise is a bit silly and contrived at times, it does err on the side of whimsy so I'll overlook it.

Honeymoon Alone is quirky, endearing, and perfect for the holidays. But be warned: you will want to go to England after reading it.
