Honeymoon alone had so much potential to be a great fun read. The writing was excellent but the plot was... I’m sure if this is the best word for it but.. Strange? Fantastical? I won’t give a lot away but the main character finds herself in sort of a caper. If you have nothing else to read go ahead but otherwise go ahead and skip this one.0 |

This was a light, fun, and interesting book. The characters were corky, interesting, and the storyline was unique. There's some mystery, romance and lots of laugh out loud moments. It's a wonderful book for those who love romantic comedy and unique storylines. |
Honeymoon Alone was a cute, fun, easy read. Definitely gave me rom-com vibes which is always a plus in my book. The book made me wish for a trip to London! I enjoyed reading Honeymoon Alone and would recommend it to others that love a good rom-com! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the title in exchange for a honest review. |
Everything in this book that I liked, I really liked--from the vintage-loving, buttoned-down heroine Lucy, her cat named Ricky (Ricardo), traveling spontaneously, London during the holidays, and Lucy's various friends and love interests. However, I HAAAAAATED her co-dependent, smothering, concern-trolling family. I lived in Boston for 5 years, and I get that tight-knit, in-your-business families (and never traveling outside New England) are totally A THING, culture-wise, but a lawyer with a pregnant wife flying overseas, unannounced, to bring back his adult sister from her vacation 2 days early seems... unlikely and/or insane. Anyway, it's a low-stress read (unless crazy families spike your blood pressure!). I look forward to more from this author. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC for the purpose of an unbiased review. |
The perfect escape from this world we currently live in. A great beach read too!! Just enough character development, lots of romance (but not too graphic), humor and a tiny mystery-that is very, very easy to solve. This one will just make you feel good and root for love. Lucy has never done anything crazy, so when a psychic at her sister's wedding tells her to look and follow the signs for love, Lucy does just that. She uses her sister's extra honeymoon reservation to London as an excuse to follow the signs and change up her life. Little does Lucy know that she will change everything for the better! |
I love love LOVED this story! Lucy never does anything spontaneous and then books a trip to London and sure finds herself some adventure! I love the friendships, the family dynamic, and, of course, the love aspect. I was totally transported to the places Lucy was seeing and I find her character to be so fun! She is naive, sheltered, and genuinely gets excited of some pretty basic things - which we all should! A great story about living life, taking chances, and showing that you truly don’t know what could happen!! |
Firstly thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC of this book, I've had this waiting for a while on my Kindle and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. That being said, there were a few formatting issues. At one point, I did consider DNFR it, but once we got past the worst part it was just a few spaces missing between words, which I could deal with. On the whole I really enjoyed this book, and it was not what I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised! I loved Lucy as a character, I thought Macaulay really let her personality shine through this book in the way she behaved and we got to see her grow as time progressed. At 26, Lucy is hounded by her family at gatherings as to when she's going to settle down and start a family, and I applaud the author for bringing this into the book. Women are constantly questioned when they're going to have a baby or start a family, like just let us LIVE PEOPLE. I also loved how Lucy interacted with her family and her best friend Mary. It was clear through the pages how much they loved each other and how tight knit they were. P.S. Mary is a joy, we all need a friend like her. Now I've finished the book I can say that the plot was not what I was expecting at all. When I first started reading it did come across very twee and tourist-y, once Lucy arrived in London, and that would have put me off had it not been for the introduction of Cary and Oliver, our two other main characters. Macaulay cleverly weaves a web of deception, at no point throughout the book did I guess the ending... But when you look back all the clues were there and you almost kick yourself for not guessing it to begin with. I did think this would be some twee romance novel, set in London with some dashing British man whisking Lucy off her feet... It was so much more than that. Every word written, and every chapter presented to us was a clever web of deception and cover ups. I was completely in shock over the ending. |
I received an Advance Readers Copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was the first time I have read anything by this author. I have to say I more than likely will read many more by her after completing the book. This was such a fun book to read. We all could use an uplifting read during a time when we are all sheltering in place and not able to leave our homes. I love the description of her vacation to London and the detail she described as it reminded me of a trip I took there several years ago. If you were looking for an easy quick read than this book is absolutely for you. . |
I received an eARC of Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay from BooksGoSocial and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! I give this book 5 stars. Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay is a laugh out loud rom-com. The characters are fun and the story is full of adventure. This was a light, easy and refreshing read. I definitely recommend it! I'm looking forward to reading more books by Nicole Macaulay. |
I made the decision to not finish this book (DNF). Unfortunately I was not a fan of the writing style and for me the writing is a big part in me enjoying a book. I just could not get into the story which was disappointing. |

Thank you Netgalley for this oportunity to read and review this book! When irrepressibly romantic Lucy Gray is ditched at said wedding by her date in front of her whole family, the promises of a psychic seem better than her pity-riddled reality. The psychic's advice seems insightful: stop ignoring fate's signs - fate will lead you to love. But when "fate" leads Lucy to London, she finds herself tangled in a web of lies. In a story about finding independence and taking chances, Lucy learns that leaving everything up to fate can be dangerous - and jeopardize her chances at happily ever after. Very light, fun and engaging read. The characters were great and the story was wonderful! I loved the descriptions of Lucy's trip to London, and the ending was great! I would recomend it to all romance readers who love a happy ending! |

What a great book! Just be warned you will want to book a trip to Europe, specifically London and Paris, which isn't a bad thing. The book is well written with great character development and chemistry between the characters. |
This was a super cute, romantic comedy type read. This felt like a Hallmark Christmas movie in the best way possible. A very enjoyable romance I would recommend checking out. |
A special thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. For 26-year-old teacher Lucy Gray, life revolves around her family, friends, and her grade three students. Lucy is dependable and responsible, she always puts everyone's needs before her own. At her sister's 80s themed wedding, Lucy gets ditched by her fake date (a coworker who is pretending to be her boyfriend) after he makes out with her cousin in the photo booth. The only highlight is the psychic who advises Lucy to follow fate and listen to what the universe is telling her. Lucy decides last minute to take a trip to London—the very trip her sister booked as a honeymoon plan B. The only problem is that she has to pretend to be her sister. That should be easy, right? In London, Lucy's getaway is more complicated to pull off that she imagined. As the lies are piling up, she struggles to follow the signs. Lucy is learning that leaving everything to chance can not only be dangerous, but can also jeopardize her happily ever after. With relatable and endearing characters, new author Nicole Macaulay has penned a charming book! Her writing is sharp and funny—there is so much witty banter. Although the premise is a bit silly and contrived at times, it does err on the side of whimsy so I'll overlook it. Honeymoon Alone is quirky, endearing, and perfect for the holidays. But be warned: you will want to go to England after reading it. |
A nice love triangle read. After talking to a psychic our main character lets fate take control, this leads her all the way to London! Lucy was a very quirky and adventurous character. Unfortunately, the book goes more down hill the further you read. Well written, just wished for a slightly different ending. |
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this e-arc in exachange for an honest review. Boy Oh Boy!! This was such a fun, easy read which is why I am conpelled to give this 4 stars. So hear me out, if the title and cover don't pique your interest then I think A 26 year old single female will, who was let down (he made out with the cousin) by her date at her sister's wedding! Cue - the psychic, who tells her to heed fate's signs in order to find THE ONE, well not technically but we all know this is where it'll lead. So off Lucy goes to London and Paris because her newly-wed sister forgot to cancel her backup honeymoon stay!!! I have never been to Europe so reading about it was fun and I really felt like paying it a visit after the pandemic!! So we have an amazing protagonist, with no luck in her love life, off on an adventure with an overbearing family wjo are literally freakin out. As an asian I could relate to the latter so so much. I really loved Lucy because I could really relate to her, there were times when I nodded along, understanding her and times when I laughed out loud cuz let me tell ya this is a funny book. There was kind of a love triangle and frankly I wasn't really flattered by either of 'em. I kept hoping a more charismatic gentleman will come and sweep Lucy off her feet. And the ending!! I mean it was easy to predict, the whole story was predictable, but I squeaked when I read that ending. I guess this is the perfect book to lighten and brighten up your day especially during such trying times. It was a little slow to start with but I am glad I pushed through because I honestly enjoyed it alot. |
Lucy Gray is not spontaneous, until a meeting with a psychic. Then, she takes off for London on her sister’s unused honeymoon. Will she find what she is looking for in London? This Book is a quick read, perfect for someone who wants a few hours to escape into a book. Lucy Gray is a likable character. However, the ending was what I expected. I will read more books by Nicole Macaulay. Thank you to the Nicole Macaulay, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. |
i think this book was really cute. it was a sad little honeymoon story but then it became a super sexy romance. i liked it and it made me want to visit all the places! |
Giving this 3.25 out of 5 stars This book is about Lucy Gray who is known to be predictable mainly because it was how she was brought up by her parents. At her sister’s wedding, after she was let down by her date in front of their whole family, she met a psychic and was told that she should stop ignoring signs given by fate so she could find her true love. Lucy decided to go on a “Honeymoon Alone” in England and Paris not just to escape the humiliation but she also listened to what the psychic had told her. I am not going to bash Lucy Gray for believing in what the psychic told her because I believe in fate. I did enjoy this book as it was a fun read and it had the potential of a love triangle. The banter was there too so it was a good plus to the story. However, i did not like the ending that much. I felt like it could’ve been better and i felt disappointed honestly. (I’m obviously not going to spoil it for anyone) Don’t get me wrong, the story itself was amazing and was written well by the author but the last part was such a bummer that it was the reason why i deducted stars on my review. Overall, this was okay. If i would recommend it, i probably would but i would give you a fair warning about the bummer ending. |
A really fun, easy read. After a psychic tells her to follow fate and it'll lead her to love, Lucy Gray decides to do just that - shocking her family and sending the family blog into overdrive, she, on the spur of the moment, decides to use her sister's second, unused honeymoon. So follows a hilarious adventure in London (and a few nights in Paris). I kind of figured out what was going to happen in the end when she was reading the newspaper on the Chunnel back to London, but never expected how the end happened. PS if you are very scared of heights you may need to speed-read or skip some parts of the New Years Eve drama. A delightful addition was the blogposts the Gray family make on their family blog - you get a real feel on each character's unique personalities. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book. |
