Honeymoon alone is one of the cutest novels out there. A journey of Lucy gray, from always falling the rules, being reliable to doing something just for the fun of it. I loved her character sarcastic, smart, and so outgoing and lovely. Her whole London tour was so amazing. I felt like I was living the whole book. Loved Cary's friendship towards Lucy and always been so heartwarming, and always giving the greatest of advice. I was shipping both of them at first but den Oliver came and completely changed the picture. Both are so perfect for eachother and I honestly was pretty surprised at the ending. The twist was amazing and I loved the book so much. |

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought the characters were adorable. I enjoyed the premise of the unmarried sister being the one to get this done. Then finally doing something for herself. It was a enjoyable rom-com, which I was seeking at this time. I LOVE books that have a HEA. |
I loved this book! Lucy, a 26 year old teacher and the little of seven brothers and sisters, is always surrounded by her family and has never gone very far from them (in fact, she doesn't have a single stamp in her passport). Now, when an oportunity to travel to London on a false honeymoon arises, she doesn't think twice and jumps in the plane. I adored Lucy, she's so optimistic and at the same time so down-to-earth, and she really cares about her family and her friends. And of course, I absolutely loved the family's blog! I couldn't stop laughing every time Lucy's mother posted an entry, it was hilarious. ** Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion ** |
Honeymoon Alone is a very cute and fun read. Definitely more of a nice cozy chic-lit than a romance to me. Lucy is a teacher that isn't too lucky in the love department. Takes a spontaneous trip to London. Falls in love...maybe? I like that their was a little teeny tiny bit of mystery added in. Overall it was a nice, easy, enjoyable read. |

I thoroughly enjoyed this journey with Lucy. She is such a relatable character. Seeing the wonder of London and Paris through her eyes was really a treat. I deducted some stars because it was highly predictable. However, I think it would make a fantastic rom-com! |
A fun, light, read. The author has a way of easing you into the story instead of jumping right in, and I really enjoyed that. It was refreshing, light and lighthearted. Exactly what I was looking for. |
A really fun read with a lot of great characters (main and supporting), snappy dialogue and a little mustery thrown in. |

This is a wonderful book for a holiday/beach read. Very in line with Jenny Colgen and Ali McNamara. Honeymoon Alone is a sweet book, so warm and touching I appreciated the minor nod to Meg Cabot in her early Boy Next Door book. The ending was super predictable but it was very welcome! |
Thank you to NetGalley, publisher and author for allowing me to read a copy of this super cute book. Romance is not usually my favorite genre to read, I'm more into thrillers and mysteries. Having said that, I loved this book. This is my first from this author but it will not be my last. I loved all the characters, especially Lucy and her family. I loved the narration style of the author and I loved every page from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from this author, what a wonderful and delightful surprise! |

Honeymoon Alone Thank you @netgalley for a copy of Honeymoon Alone by @nicolemacaulayauthor. I really enjoyed reading this cute romcom set in London for two main reasons: 1. I can relate to the main character - Lucy who is a grown up woman yet pampered and looked after by her older siblings even though she wants to be independent and knows that she will be alright by herself. 2. The story has a little twist which I didnt think would come about as romcoms are generally quite predictable. Synopsis: Lucy has never travelled outside the US and when her psychic advises her to start living her life and look for signs, she jumps at the opportunity to go to visit London for Christmas on her sister's reservation (the one she forgets to cancel) at a honeymoon suite. Along comes a man named Cary who is more than happy to pretend to be her husband at the suite to get the staff off her back. But does she end up falling in love with Cary? Does the staff believe in her lies or are they looking for opportunities to catch her red handed? A light quick read which I felt came to me at the right time! I would give it 3.5 stars and would recommend you to read it especially if you have just read a heavy book. |
I liked the premise of the story - trusting fate, taking a solo trip to gain some independence and perspective with a little bit of flirtation and romance thrown in. I loved visiting London and Paris so hearing Lucy experience some landmarks brought me right back. I also appreciated the overbearing family, ABBA references, cute moments of chemistry and quirky comments. Unfortunately it also felt slow at points and the ending wrapped up like a Lifetime drama (I’m a Hallmark gal 🤣) so it lost some credit there. Thanks @netgalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review. |
This was a cute sand romantic read but I had some major issues with the main character Lucy. She was just silly. Pure silly and even a bit dumb at times. I also found myself not caring which guy she ended up with, which lice interest was better. It was cute but meh. Would never actually happen. |
The story of this book is about Lucy, that has the opportunity to go to London on a "honeymoon" trip when her sister being the freaked out person she is forgets to cancel the reservation she had made at an Hotel in London for newlyweds and decides to go instead to the Greek Islands. Lucy takes this chance inspired by what the psychic at her sisters weeding had told her the previous day about taking chances. So she embarks on this trip of self discover and possibly love. My issues with this book were the main character and I have a lot to vent about it: Okay I understand that Lucy is not really a risk taker and she's used to go by her family "norms" but there's having a personality and then there's being simply dumb. A lot of her actions were dumb and her family was really hard go get past. The Hotel was really weird because for a 5 star really conceited hotel like it was described had a lot of unreliable staff. "How did I think for a second that they’d all just laugh and think it was amusing and wonderful for me and just continue about their lives?" “Give me your reservation number, and we’ll get you a flight right back. What airline did you take for this fool’s mission?” "(...) you can barely stay in your lane in America." The only normal and sane person in this family was the father and the sister that got married. “You worry too much, Charles!” I hear my dad say, his jovial tone bringing a smile to my face. “You do you, Lucy!" Yeah you know what? That's the truth! Lucy is a grown woman that can do whatever she wants with her life and she ends up regretting her decisions, that's how it's supposed to be because we learn from our own mistakes. I almost face palmed myself when she did this and it's totally unreal, never never would anyone do this. "Stop!” I yell, squeezing my phone tightly. Before I can stop myself, I hurl the phone as hard as I can out the open window and into the night. My mouth falls open and I take a deep, steadying breath." So the next line really ticked me off because 1st not everyone applies filters to the pictures they take... 2nd she's trying to get excuses for throwing her phone out of the window because the family kept pressuring her to return home "But it’s kind of nice seeing photos that are incredible on their own, without an Instagram filter applied." Then there were the love interests, Cary and Oliver... I couldn't care less about which one she ended up falling in love with since I disliked them both for different reasons. Therefore the ending wasn't the best and I wasn't at all invested in the story.. |
This book was such a refreshing read. I like to have a stack of books that I consider palette cleansers and this would definitely be one of them. This is a great read if you just read a really heavy book. It was kind of like the unhoneymooners except this was ended up being a honeymoon for one. The psychic in the story was a fun catalyst to her adventures. I don't think I've read another book that has a psychic element.. The writing was absolutely up there with other well known Rom Com authors. For me, a good rom com will always give me nostalgic 90's rom com movie feels, and this book did this for me. I enjoyed it so much that I have ordered a hard copy to keep on my bookshelf, because this will be one that I reread on a nice rainy day, sitting on my reading chair with a cup of coffee. |
Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay This was a cute romantic read, with a unique plot. Although it wasn’t an all consuming must finish today love story the story line did keep me intrigued. I really enjoyed the novel taking place in London. I have never been but am dying to go so reading about all the sights made me feel as if I was being a tourist along side Lucy. Lucy is the youngest of many siblings and is always looked as the child in her family. She is always doing the right thing and helping everyone around her. She takes the chance to do something unexpected and jets off on her sisters second choice honeymoon which was mistakenly not cancelled. Staying at a posh “honeymooners” only hotel in London Lucy has to play along with a childhood acquaintance but the pesky “concierge” Oliver seems to be suspicious of the duo. Thank you Netgalley and 4 B Pub for a copy of this book! |
Lucy, the youngest in a large family, has always been very predictable. But after speaking with a psychic at her sister’s wedding, she impulsively decides to go to London under false pretenses. Her trip soon turns into a web of lies and fake relationships. But in her quest for self-discovery, Lucy may just find the independence and love she was looking for all along. I really enjoyed this light hearted story! First, I have been devouring books that include international travel recently. Living vicariously through the characters of the book as definitely been fun! But aside from that, I loved the character growth in Lucy as she steps far out of her comfort zone and becomes more independent. While the romance sizzled, I liked that the focus was on Lucy and her personal journey as well. Though speaking of romance, I definitely enjoyed a certain brooding leading man! The only thing in this book that gave me pause was a certain plot point that seemed to come out of left field. I don’t want to spoil anything here, but if you’ve read this book, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Overall, a cute and light novel that would be perfect for an afternoon quick read! Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the review copy! I can’t wait to read more from this author! |
Lucy goes on an adventure to London after talking to a psychic at her sisters wedding. This is a breezy light read. |
I liked this book for the most part. It was quirky and had a good story, with fleshed out characters that were sympathetic and full. It was a quick and easy read. The premise of the story was great. However, I don't feel like Lucy changed much by the end of the book. The pacing felt a little off and there were parts that were sluggish and dragged. |
As a grown up woman, Lucy is still looking for her identity as a person. She always aim to please her family and she never did something spontaneous. When her sister books two locations for her honeymoon, Lucy is the one to remember on the last minute to call and cancel the reservation made in London. However, the hotel policy doesn’t refund the costs. This exactly moment is a crucial one in Lucy’s life as she decides to take on this opportunity and travel abroad for the first time-to travel somewhere, anywhere for the first time. Arrived in London, she is met at the airport by someone who she used to know back in her school days, and she accepts his offer for a ride. However, Lucy is disappointed that Cary doesn’t remember her very well, or at all. At the hotel, Lucy has to face the reservation without a husband, lying about her identity, which makes the owner’ s ever so curious son to become suspicious about her story. As a fact, it appears that Oliver is everywhere at anytime where Lucy goes. Per total, I was confused about the romantic situation of this book, as Lucy doesn’t express very well her thoughts regarding which man she is into for more than half of this read. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. |
