I've been reading a lot of dark and gritty thrillers recently and felt like switching things up a bit, so chose Beach Read by Emil Henry. I know I'm late to hop on the bandwagon and read this author, but I got there in the end!

A cute romcom of a book with a great enemies to lovers trope. Don't let the title convince you this book is all sugary sweet. It deals with deeper issues than a will-they-won't-they romance, it also covers grief and past traumas of the main characters.

January and Gus were sweet and wholesome. I loved their dynamics and personal growth. There were some fantastic one-liners and the banter was brilliant.

I can't wait to read more from this author.

Finally read my first Emily Henry book and while I enjoyed it, I have a feeling it's not going to be my favourite of hers (when I read Book Lovers, I think that'll become my favourite). I enjoyed the romance but what really augmented the narrative for me were the discussions of grief and loss and the way the author challenges the misconception that romance, as a genre, is seen as 'lesser' than genres like literary fiction.

I don't normally read romance novels but this one piqued my interest as the main characters are night and day. Ones a romance novelist the other is used to darker literally fiction. Each have writers block and decide to challenge each other to write each others next book-

I have to be honest. I didn't like it; I was a bit bored, I just couldn't engage with the characters, it wasn't believable for me. its an ok read. nothing special. Mehh

Beach Read
By Emily Henry

The main characters Gus and January writers both with writers block for various reasons. This book follows their journey for their second chance romance.

A reasonably well written book. I had great expectations for this book but unfortunately it didn’t do it for me.

It was rather long winded and repetitive in parts and was a bit predictable. Ok book if a bit slow.

Thank you to the publisher a d net galley for a free ereader copy of Beach Read I'm exchange for an honest review. I Found the first 3/4 of this book to be a real page turner and I flew through it so quickly but the last quarter was a bit repetitive and slow so over all for me this was a 3 star read.

January Andrews is a romance writer with writers block. She has always had a romantic view of the world, despite the traumas she had faced with her parents, their love for each other never ceased to amaze or inspire her. A sudden loss made her question everything.

Augustus Everitt is also an author, and a successful one. He also just so happens to be January's nemesis from college. Ever critical of her work, January can't help but despise Gus, even if she can't quite forget that one night...

When January and Gus find themselves living next door to each other, each with their own demons to fight and severe writers block, a flippant writing bet might be just the thing they both need.

Beach Read is not your typical romance novel. January and Gus are both troubled souls who are each trying to make sense of their pasts. The bet becomes a lifeline for them both, as they seek to learn each others chosen genres while spending more and more time together.

Beach Read is full of loss, anger and confusion. But it is also full of love, family and longing. There's some hot and heavy scenes but also some tender and emotional moments that are beautifully captured by the author. I haven't read anything by Emily Henry before but Beach Read will certainly not be the last novel of hers that I read.

I am more than happy to recommend this novel - if you want some serious character chemistry with great backstories, then this could well be the book for you!

When you love someone, you want to make this world look different for them. To give all the ugly stuff meaning, and amplify the good.

Beach Read is the second book I have read by the very talented, Emily Henry. I am very much looking forward to her third book, Book Lovers that is due to be released in May 2022.

The enemies to friends to lovers trope is executed well and Henry’s writing ensures you become very much invested in their relationship, hoping for the happily ever after. As well as the relationship between themselves, both Gus and January have their own personal struggles which add another element to the story.

The themes of self worth, accepting who we are and opening ourselves up to relationships resonated strongly with me and there were many parts got me emotionally.

A must read that is much more than your usual rom-com.

The creme de la creme of romcoms. Emily Henry is a fantastic writer. Just the right amount of angst and steam

REally enjoyed this one. The titel is sort of deceptive as it has literary vibes mixed in with rom-com.

I did enjoy this book! January Andrews strikes me as a classic romance heroine name all on its own. January and Gus were college rivals, once, and have since become a successful Rance author and literary novelist respectively. Both suffering from writer's block, they find themselves in neighbouring beach houses for the summer, and hi-jinks ensue. Challenged to write in the other's genre for the summer, it's a classic romance setup, and in many ways it delivered!

I enjoyed the budding relationship between Gus and January, and I really enjoyed January's growth as a.character. I still liked Gus, but where it fell down for me was how he started acting once things got a bit too real for him. We ended with a classic happy ending, though. Definitely a quirky romance for those looking for their own beach read - or just wanting to revisit the summer!

Good read although it is a cliche but the characters are charming and it is a feel good read. I enjoyed the threads of Gus and January writing each other's genres. This was very interesting and provided entertainment. The supporting characters are really interesting and I feel Henry could have done more with it.

A great summer read.

January is a writer of romance novels, always looking for a happy ending, if only her life had happy endings. After her father dies January is left an envelope and a set of keys. When January decides to move to the secret beach house left to her by her father, she couldn't be more surprised to find that her neighbour, Gus, was once her old college crush.

Gus is also a writer but their books are very different. They are both suffering writers block and challenge each other to write a book in the style of the other. I loved the interaction between the characters and the plot is so much more than a typical 'Beach Read'

Oh this book brought me so much joy.

I wanted to dip my toes into a genre I don't usually read and this seemed perfect for the (last dregs of British) Summer.

I was either smirking or screwing my face up in shared pain when reading this. I felt so invested, absorbed and in love with this story and with our main characters of January and Gus.

I think I'd happily read more romance novels like this. Generally, it's just not my preferred go to, but before this book, I almost had an unhealthy view of romance (I used to read a lot of supernatural romance as a kid and wondered why a hot and sparkly vampire wouldn't creepily stalk me, try not to kill me, fall in love and turn me into a vampire too) and I think, for my growing adolescent brain, that probably wasn't the best time to consume that sort if content, but this book has giving me a grander appreciation for love in its different forms, rather than lusting after something fictional.

This was romantic, heart wrenching, hit me in all the feels, had me laughing out loud and on the verge (struggling to keep them from falling) and I enjoyed all of it.

I loved that our characters were both authors and it originally started off as a competition between them, that formed into something so beautiful. I adored seeing our characters open up to each other and learning more about them.

One thing that annoyed me, and its only minor, but January says "dumb bunny" way too much and it was so cringey.

Overall, I adored this read. It's made me love love even more!

This was so good! The last quarter really pulled everything together. Beautiful!

This book and The Bride Test pulled me out of a slump. Just the best feel good books <3

READ IT! You won't be disappointed.

4.5 stars / 5 stars

This book was about love and heart break but not at all what I thought it would be. I thought this would be a classic chick lit but it was so much more then that and I loved it. I fell in love with the characters and my heart broke with them and I just really felt all the feels reading this book.
Even from the first line I was gripped and I feel that the cover , although gorgeous, doesn't really match the book.
I will definitely pick up more books by this author as her writing is so beautiful. The pacing of the book is really well done, and even the sub characters were so important to me. There wasn't a point where I didn't enjoy this book. 10/10 would recommend

Beach Read by Emily Henry is a cozy happy-ending romance novel. It is an interesting read, and coming from me, that means a lot for the books in the romance genre.

It is a wholesome book. The plot involves making of two books from start to finish (including the conception of the idea, the writing process, the writing itself, the early copies, and the sale) and consequently making of the lives of two peoples who are writing those books, and the joint life that they end up making for themselves.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for the ARC.

Verdict: Recommended.
