Thank you to Netgalley, Mallory McCartney, and MM Books for a gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this second instalment of the Black Dawn series! I am truly in awe of how Mallory can keep track of all of her characters and all of the different kinds of creatures! As someone who doesn’t read a lot of fantasy, I find the worlds and all the detail so fascinating and interesting! The flow from the first to this one was seamless and it left me anxious for the next one! If you haven’t tried this series, fantasy reader or not, I recommend giving it a try as it is well worth it!!!

Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a copy of this book.

I am so shocked that I actually enjoyed this 2nd book in the series, being that I really didn't like book 1. From the being, I was thrown into this intense storyline. I find myself getting invested and hoping that the main characters can complete their mission. I am eager to read the next book in this series because the author left things off on a cliffhanger, and I can only imagine how much more intense and compelling the next book will be.

Emory finally gaining a sense of her purpose and actually really finding her place back into the world that she was brought back into is satisfying. I am happy to see that Nyx is remorseful and seems genuinely sorry for what she did, but Memphis is really starting to become a nuisance. All in all, I am enjoying how these characters can come together for a good cause, and bring down Adair is the ultimate goal

There will be lies told, hearts broken, secrets told and lives lost. But throughout all of it, the rebellion kept on going for the good and the survival of their world.

Nah, I really wanted to love this series and I did enjoy some part of it. But the pacing was a bit off sometimes and it felt like the story just did go on forever and not really going anywhere.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is the second book in the Black Dawn series by Mallory McCartney and is a fantastic sequel to book one. I highly recommend you read book one first otherwise you won't fully understand the plot.

Fast paced and full of well scripted, diverse, strong characters this book did not dissapoint and is a must read fantasy series which is unique and easy to lose yourself in. This book left me gasping for book three and is a fantastic build up to what will surely be an epic finale!

I must say, I had a very hard time getting into this book. I have not read book one and that may be the problem. The world building is okay but I just didn’t like any of the characters. They lacked depth and personality so I limped from chapter to chapter not getting involved in the story. I made it to 50% and then just could not carry on. I think this story is in need of a good editor. It’s hard to find any sentences that don’t contain commas and while the writing is very descriptive, sometimes less is more. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

ARC from NetGalley

DNF at 12% so I'm not going to give a rating.

This book just isn't written very well. I understand ARCs often still need editing, but I'm really not enjoying myself. I'm becoming progressively more irritated, and, again, I have a finite amount of time on this Earth.

Nothing has grabbed me. Nothing is intriguing. No one has a face or a feeling. There are too many commas. The subject changes mid sentence. It's maw not maws.

I think this writer has potential. There are smatterings of interesting wording, but it needs work.

While reading the first book in this series, I was unsure why I was struggling so much to finish. Moving onto this novel made me realise that I just didn't care much for any of the characters. The prequel part of book 1 set out the characters very well, but then there were a lot of changes in their personalities that just didn't keep me engaged in their stories. I had to give up reading this when I was about half way through. I'm actually very disappointed that the incongruous characterisation put me off so much, because the story in and of itself is quite interesting and something I would otherwise have enjoyed.

"Queen to Ashes" follows on from "Heir of Lies" in the "Black Dawn" series. As with the first book, the second is well-written, and the story is enjoyable. It's also much darker than book 1. I had the same problem as I had with "Heir of Lies" - "Queen to Ashes" just feels too long.
3.5 stars.

My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advance copy to review. This review is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.

I read the Black Dawn couple of years ago and i really enjoyed it. Queen to Ashes was an amazing sequel too. I loved the pace. It was full of action and more character development. Mallory MacCartney's storytelling was amazing. I can't wait to read next book in this series.
