This is an easy-to-follow guide on how to make spiral drawings. The author gives step-by-step instructions with lots of illustrations to make a variety of designs like hearts, geometric patterns and animals. He shows how to color them in with affordable Crayola markers, as well. The patterns felt rather one-note to me and I would have appreciated seeing more ways to do this kind of art style (using other media, working in quotes or doing your initials, more advanced projects, etc.) but it's a very accessible guide for what it is. Almost anybody can follow these directions and be successful at doing some cool spiral drawings.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This one is ideal for folks who like doodling. Much like the Zentangle style of art, the focus here is filling in shapes. The difference here is you’re not using a ton of patterns, the focus in on using spiral lines that create a subtle optical illusion feels.

It’s probably the first art book where I picked up a pen to try something right away. It’s not a perfect book. More tips on say filling in unique shapes would have been nice. I think the most useful project is the cupcake as it gives you a feel for how to fill in very different shapes together.

I’ve been struggling with arts and crafts lately and this one may have gotten me into at least doodling again.
