This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given in my own words, for this ARC. Who knew it would be so difficult winning the woman you love? And when did the marriage mart become so complicated? And does she love my dog more than me? All of these questions and more will be revealed in this very good tale.

I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I was a bit dismayed to see that Ella Quinn was starting a new series with The Most Eligible Lord in London, and not continuing with her Worthingtons series. But given that this, like the Worthingtons, is a spinoff of her flagship Marriage Game series, and she has even since added an installment to The Marriage Game since starting the Worthingtons, I don’t think the door is closed to her returning to them at some point. And there are some lovely cameos, as well as further fleshing out of some characters and a family that appeared in those previous works.

I like both of the leads, although I don’t know if they’re the most memorable Ella Quinn pairing I’ve read. I enjoyed seeing Littleton reckon with his rakish past and how it got him into trouble with a lady before, and atoning for that. And by introducing the unrepentant scoundrel Lord Anglesley to rival him for Adeline’s affections, it shows that in some cases, rakes do have the power for growth if they truly make the effort, while some others never change.

Adeline is kind of just…typical…I suppose? There’s nothing wrong with that…I like that she loves animals and has a sense of awareness to not be taken in by someone she thinks will hurt her. But there’s nothing that truly makes her stand out, and I just found her a little boring. And while there is an interesting conflict at first, it ultimately falls flat, with a lot of drama that ends anticlimactially.

However, Quinn continues to excel at including a sense of authenticity to her Regency world, in a way that also reflects some of the recent conversations of the past year or two in Romancelandia. She tackles the issue of slavery with sensitivity, and provided me with further context beyond the bare facts concerning both the abolition of the slave trade (1807) and the final abolition of slavery itself in the British West Indies (1833).

It’s very possible most of my gripes are just my “jaded by most historical romance” side coming out again, along with my fond memories for some of her earlier Worthington books, as some other early readers seem to enjoy it. If you’re love Ella Quinn’s other books, or enjoy historical romance with a good grasp of the Regency period, I recommend picking this up.

***3 STARS***

This was a DNF for me. I could barely make it through 20%. Why? Because the hero Fredrick/Frits was just too much....too sweet and too soft. Nothing roguish or rakish about him at all. I mean come on he tells his friend that he is being chaperoned by his mother for the Season because of the “scandal” he created the previous year. The scandal was yawn...absolutely nothing. And your mama is chaperoning you?

I read romance for the stories but I like a strong hero. That is just my preference. I realize that not all can be alphas and I will take a beta but not a pansy. Sorry to be so harsh but this is my pet peeve especially when you put that the hero is a rake/rogue in the synopsis.

The author writes well and I will try to read her again. This just was not my cup of tea.

Frederick, Baron Littleton, Frits to his friends, is well known, wealthy, handsome, titled, and therefore touted as the catch of the season. He made a grievous error last season that nearly saw him wed to a woman he realized was totally wrong for him. This season he's trying again to find the right wife and thinks he's succeeded in Lady Adeline Wivenly. Too bad she is also friends with the lady he made an enemy of last season.

Lady Adeline Wivenly is determined to keep Frits at bay, despite the attraction she feels for him, out of a sense of loyalty to her friend. Frits is equally determined to show her he's no rake and that he's serious about wanting a wife, as long as it's her.

This was a bit boring for me to be honest. I can understand loyalty to one's friends of course, but I just found Adeline to be judgmental, naive, and rather ditzy. This story turned out to be an agonizingly slow burn and the amount of times Adeline questioned Frits' intentions had me questioning her intelligence. There were quite a few supporting characters as well and at times they were tough to keep straight. I never did find much plot; most of the narrative is bogged down in minutiae that did nothing to advance the story and moments of increased action and subplot that were added near the end just felt random and disjointed to me. I also never quite understood why Frits was so taken with Adeline and felt they were unevenly matched and rather flat for much of the book and this never really changed to me. Much of the book felt like added fluff for me, especially the chapters from the point of view of Adeline's other potential suitor. This is a simple plot that could've really worked as I don't think a ton of angst is needed to make a good book, but this one just wasn't really romantic to me and fell flat on the chemistry and steam. Overall, this just didn't work for me and was rather a slog to get through. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy this book. The writing was good. I just couldn't connect with the characters. They seemed to have an instant love attraction which I didn't like with these characters. I also felt like there wasn't anything really happening. There just wasn't enough to keep my interest in reading so I was constantly picking it up and putting it back down.

It took me a while to get into this story. For some reason I couldn't care about either Fritz nor Adeline. The more I got to know them, the more I enjoyed the story. The plot is quite simple. Boy meets girl, likes her, but there is a problem! Nope, not telling you...don't want to spoil the tale for you. There is a villain - who really isn't as villainous as all that. There is another villain that we meet, albeit for just a little while, who is much more evil. I am thinking he might come back in another story!

Give this book a read. You should enjoy it.

ahhhh another great book by Ella. I have a been a fan for a while and it seems that everytime I sit down with a historical fiction romance book I end up having a happy heart and it happened with this one too. we meet Fritz who has decided he is going to marry and be happy about it different than the men from his family, however things do not go as planned and when he meets and pursues and his supposed to marry someone he feels is the one, he panics and flees,. Now he is back again not sure of the reception he would receive from the ton and he ends up seeing someone that he is sure is for him however she is his last mistakes friend. Adline has just arrived in London for her first season and makes four great friends Dorie, Adeline, Miss Featheron and Miss Stern, they will protect one another from rogues and Adeline is aware of rakes and rogues since her brother is famous for being one. This handsome man captures her eye but he ends up being the man who broke her friend Dorie's heart last season so she is going to clear away. Does it work-well grab a copy and Enjoy!

SORRY, NOT MY CUP OF HR TEA

I was so excited for this book when I got the ARC from Netgalley - however, it didn't take me long to be disillusioned by it. One problem after the other popped up and ruined the experience for me.

👎 WHAT I DISLIKED 👎

Plot: This was really more a matter of a lack of plot. I couldn't find the plot at all. The story moved in circles - it repeated itself, the same things happened over and over and over again. It got boring real fast.

Mid-story: Even though this was the first in a series I felt like I landed smack down in the middle of a story - it was so confusing!

Supporting characters: There were simply too many! I couldn't keep them straight... Maybe that also had something to do with the fact that I was so not into the story in the first place...

Main characters: Frits and Adeline were flat, boring non-entities that did nothing to salvage this story for me. Sorry, just not a fan. Of any of it.

The Most Eligible Lord in London is the first in a new series called The Lords of London. Ella Quinn has once again given us a book that mixes the rich and fashionable ton to a romance story. Another season in London begins with the marriageable young women looking for a husband of worth and avoiding the rakes.

Fredrick, Lord Littleton is a rake of the first order. At least that is according to Lady Adeline Wivenly’s newest friend. He is a man to stay away from, avoid at all costs and not count on. Adeline is disappointed to hear that as she finds him attractive. She is in London to find a husband, so she needs to avoid him.

Lady Adeline Wivenly catches Fredrick, Lord Littleton’s attention right away. She is quite frankly beautiful, but he needs to be careful. Last year he almost ended up marrying a woman who was all wrong for him and he didn’t handle breaking it off with her well. This time his mother has decided to help him find the one.

Too bad, Lady Adeline Wivenly and Fredrick, Lord Littleton hit it off. They like the same things and it is a match made in heaven. Although not everyone is willing to speak about pigs and cows. I enjoyed the two main characters and quite frankly Maximus was a big hit with me as well as Adeline. The Most Eligible Lord in London by Ella Quinn was a fun, flirty read.

There's being a supporter of women and then there's being a moma's boy. Littleton firmly falls into the moma's boy category. I found him boring and lacking a spine. Few redeemable qualities and Adeline could do so much better. She's a woman who knows her mind and should have just stayed single in my opinion. Rough to get through.

An absolutely darling tale. Lord Frederick Littleton, Baron , Was getting ready to entertain Viscount Gavin Turley. He had a problem with Lady Dorie Calthrop, daughter of Marquis Huntington, last season. He thought they were in love and just before he proposed, stopped and really thought about it and realized they did not suit at all. So he fled and went to his estate, He didn't talk to her before he left. Needless to say, she was very angry. He didn't really want to see her, he was afraid that she would be unkind, not that he could blame her. He needed a wife and hoped this season he could find one.
Lady Adeline Wivenly had become a friend of Dorie's. It was her first season and she was nervous and wanted to go back to the country. But she had to look for a husband. She wanted pets, especially a dog. She had never had one and she loved them. She also had another suitor and she was not sure what to do.
Crispin, Earl of Angelesey, son of the Marquis of Normandy, and an awful Rake. But he hides it and since he has spent the last few years in Paris and no one knew.
The story was interesting and watching all the twists and turns as it progresses. It really kept my interest. It was very well written. The characters were engaging and so lifelike. Their interactions were amazing and funny. Frits and Adeline were such a cute couple and the way they interacted over the animals was neat to read. I hope other people get to read and enjoy this great novel. I highly recommend this book.

Ella Quinn’s new series is off to a good start! Along with the sweet love story of Adeline and Frits, we are introduced to a whole cast of their friends and acquaintances whose stories will no doubt fill a few more volumes.

I appreciate a historical romance writer who takes her historical research seriously, and Quinn has paid attention to several of the important details (as noted in the afterword.)

2 Stars - I wouldn't particularly recommend this one.

I was ultimately drawn to this book because of it's gorgeous cover, so pretty! This was my first book by Ella Quinn, and the first book in a new series. It had the common first book in a series set up for the rest of the books, which is ultimately helpful, but always a bit jarring at first. You're learning a lot of characters without specific information related to them. I thought that the chemistry between Adeline and Frits was good, and I definitely wanted them to become more invested in each other. I liked that Frits wanted to be at his estates and out in the country rather than in Town, and that Adeline also wanted that. I struggled with Adeline's naivete, she just didn't seem to know anything. I think that is a product of her parents and siblings leaving her to her own devices... but it made her a bit annoying to read. I also found this book to be repetitive. Adeline goes driving with one man, then with another. She waltzes with one man, then with another. I realize drives and balls were common activity during The Season, but it just felt a bit cyclical when I was reading it. I also felt like Eugenie's anti slavery plot, while very interesting, was both too much and too little to add to this story. Overall this just didn't work for me. I enjoyed the ending more than the beginning, but it just wasn't my favorite.

Thank You NetGalley for the E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Littleton was considered a rake, especially after leaving his previous love interest without a word or explanation. But not he was looking for a wife. Adeline is new to town and friends with Littleton's previous love and wants nothing to do with the handsome man, but something about him has caught her attention and she can't help but want to be with him.

I enjoyed this book a lot, it was a quick, romantic read. I liked that you read more about their relationship and the process of them falling in love more instead of the typical 'insta-love' you see a lot. The drama in the book was not too exciting though, they were good ideas but ended far to quickly and easily.

I usually love Ms. Quinn's books, but this one fell a little flat for me. The beginning was slow to get going and I was tired of the same scenario day after day. Carriage ride, confrontation between two lords, dance at ball--repeat several times over and over. The plot just plodded along so slowly. I wasn't enamored with either Littleton or Adeline especially Littleton who didn't seem to learn from his mistakes the previous Season. I did like Adeline's loyalty to her friend though.

While this book wasn't a favorite, I look forward to Ms. Quinn's next book.

The Most Eligible Lord in London is book 1 of The Lords of London and tells the story of Fredrick, Lord Littleton, whom we met in the Marriage Game stories. Fred was the incredibly handsome lord whom Lady Dorcus Calthorp aka Dorie thought was perfect for her and had expected to propose. Now deemed a notorious lord and a rake, Fred is finding it rather hard not only to trust himself as he’s now ready to choose a bride, but also undesirable to Lady Adeline Wivenly whom has caught his heart..

Adeline being friends with Dorie has no choice but to keep away from Lord Frederic to stay true to their friendship. Though Dorie hasn’t exactly divulged why she dislikes Frederick, everyone whispers of the bad history between the two. However as usual, the mamas, the sneaky matrons and the greedy young ladies of the ton are making the task difficult for her. Adeline overhears a plot designed to trick Fred into matrimony and she doesn’t believe he’s bad enough to deserve such lengths of trickery to bring him to heel She decides to give him a heads up and together they counter act plot after plot while becoming increasingly attached.

Fred’s charm and attentiveness is usually what gets him unwittingly in trouble with the ladies, though he never makes any promises or untoward advances. Adeline soon begins to understand that charm and glimpses into the interior of the man beyond the handsome Adonis façade. They like the same things, they hate being in London and prefer the country, and have a great love of animals. Soon what they have found in common and together begins to outweighs the possible repercussions of testing the friendship with Dorie. I really love the interactions between Frederick and his mother and his ready willingness to seek her help and consult. I think that sets us up to understand the kind of man he is and it really touches the heart. You know what they say about a man who loves and values his mother. Now I must say that the book merges with scenes from book 9 of the Marriage game. As the actions of the marriageable lords become somewhat intermingled, it causes me to point out that reading the Marquis she’s been waiting for would be beneficial. Frederick knows he’s finally found the woman of his heart, and Adeline though being courted by another is simply not moved by him the way she is by Frederick. As things in the ton are not always what they seem, Frederick, Adeline, Dorie and Alexander, The Marquis of Exeter (Marriage Game 9) may become part in turning the ton on its head once again and provide some juicy gossip for years to come. This review was given on the ARC copy received from the publisher and NetGalley in return for my honest opinion.

Series: The Lords of London #1
Publication Date: 3/31/20
Number of Pages: 320

When you have a very determined man, a hesitant, distrusting woman, and a viper intent on spoiling the works, you have all of the makings for a great read. I loved all of the characters. Both of the main characters were very charismatic, their families were loving and supporting – and there wasn’t a bit of navel-gazing angst. It doesn’t get much better than that. The story, of course, is well-plotted, well written and engrossing.

Frederick (Frits), Lord Littleton decided to be different than the Littleton males who came before him. They all put off marriage until they absolutely had to marry in order to fill their nurseries. Frits has decided he’s ready and he’s going to embrace love and marriage with open arms. Granted, he really screwed things up last season – he didn’t mean to – he just panicked. Now, it is a new season and he’s back to try again. Will society accept him back after what he did? Goodness, he surely hopes so. Especially after he sees a pair of soft gray eyes that glitter like silver. Oh my, he is totally smitten. Is the previous season already repeating itself before it has even begun?

Lady Adeline Wivenly has just arrived in London for her first season. London might prove to be exciting and interesting, but she’d far rather be in the country. She quickly makes four good friends – Lady Dorie Calthorp, Lady Augusta Vivers, Miss Featherton, and Miss Stern. The ladies all make pledges to protect each other throughout the season – especially from rogues. Adeline is especially wary because her brother was an infamous rake and she isn’t going to trust any man she even thought might be a rake. Especially that handsome, intriguing man she had just met – the one who broke her friend Dorie’s heart last season.

Everyone who knows Frits and Adeline were made for each other. Frits knows they were made for each other. Adeline – no, she doesn’t think so. She doesn’t trust Frits as far as she can see him and he hurt her friend, so she’ll be polite because she has to be, but she’ll also be aloof and cool to him. And she is! But when she overhears another woman plotting to trap Frits into marriage, her sense of honor just won’t allow her to ignore it. She has to warn him.

I hope you’ll read and enjoy this story as much as I did. There is humor, intensity, romance, and a healthy dose of a large and lovable canine. The whole thing is just a fun read that will keep you flippin’ those pages as fast as you can.

The Most Eligible Lord in London is the first book in the brand-new exciting series The Lords of London. And it was a fantastic book to start the series off with.
Lady Adeline is in London for her first Season and unsure of how-to avid rakes and find a husband. Luckily, she has found some friends to help guide her, but the man she is interested in led her friend on the previous Season. She wanted to have a love match with a man who the same things she does. She tried to be loyal to her friend and distance herself from Frits but became too hard to deny the connection and the similarities between them.
Frits had made a mistake the previous Season trying to find a wife and had rushed into things with Dorie. Only to realize that they would have a bad marriage between the two of them. So, he hurriedly left town to escape Dorie’s expectations. This year he is determined to take things slowly and to find someone that has the same interests. He is drawn to Adeline, but she is hesitant to spend time with him. He is not above finding was to make her include him in her plans. The more he uncovers of Adeline, the more he knows she is the woman for him.
Some additional romances were growing in the background with some of the side characters that helped Frits’s courtship. Adeline must overcome her feelings of betrayal if she wants to have a future with Frits. This was a wonderful book to read and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Ella Quinn is a favorite of mine and this book especially ranks highly on my list. From cover to cover I was swept away and fell in love right along with the characters. I will definitely be buying this one for my shelf when it comes into stores,

There was a good foundation for both of the main characters, their families and friends. But the story was SO Slow....I was past the 40% on my kindle still waiting for something, anything to really happen.
While it was nice to have dual P.O.V's from both Frits and Adeline, for me the story was JUST okay.
On the plus side I guess you could say that it was somewhat charming at times, there was a bit of humor but it was still somewhat predictable. The only real twist I saw came when a secret was exposed about another man who was also pursuing Adeline.
I did think that the eBook cover was very attractive.
