I started this, put it down because I couldn't get into it and picked it back up later.

In retrospect, I should have saved the time and trusted my original decision.

This book is WAY too long. I could have easily cut 300 pages of description and storylines that went nowhere and had a much better book. This is supposedly a summer read or beach read, but it didn't really know what it wanted to be. There was a bit of romance (kind of, it was very forced and then sudden, in my opinion) and there was a bit of a mystery, although there was never any tension. There was a scene where our Conley was "in danger" that seemed out of place... it was just all over the place.

The author clearly couldn't decide what kind of book she wanted to write with this one and wrote a few separate stories and then merged them together. The result is a book that starts in one direction and ends up in another, with a million loose ends along the way.

The use of full names bothered me. The use of "G'Mama" instead of Grandma or something similar irritated me. The multiple names for each character or weird nicknames grated on me. It was hard to find something compelling to keep me reading this one. I typically like Andrews' books as beach reads with a bit more substance but this one completely missed the mark for me.

Mary Kay Andrews know how to tell a story! This was one of the best books that I have read! It reminds me of trips to the beach that I used to take with my parents when I was a little. I cannot wait for what she comes out with next!

Mary Kay Andrews knows how to tell a good story. She has given her readers many fun beach reads. This one is among her best.

In this long (over 450 page book) a lot happens as readers spend time with journalist Conley. She certainly experiences some ups and downs. They lead her back to her small hometown when she wanted to be a hotshot in DC. However, there she is. What is Hello Summer and what is Conley’s contribution to it? What will transpire after something happens to a congressman? Will there be romance in the storyline? Find out as you rapidly turn the pages in this title. I recommend it for those who want a fairly light yet involving read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

Conley is leaving her job as a reporter. She’s taking a better job in Washington DC. But then she hears that the business is closing. She goes to visit her family even though she dreads being back home. Soon Conley finds herself involved with her family’s small town newspaper business and in the middle of some town excitement. There’s some drama as well with her family and some other town residents.

Mary Kay Andrews delivers again. I enjoyed this book so much. There was mystery, romance family all rolled into one book. I loved the characters. The age ranges of the characters and how they all were involved in the story was wonderful. The mystery of the story kept me wanting to read late into the night. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to have an enjoyable read.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I have loved most of Andrews's books, but this one fell a little flat for me, and I could not get into it. May try it on audio and see if I can get further.

Hello Summer by Mary Kay Andrews is a great summer/ beach read that takes place in a Sammy town in Florida.
There is so much packed into this book such as: family secrets and romance and twists and turns that it kept me reading until I finished the book.
The positives are it has a great setting and small town vibes with quirky characters, and a good mystery with suspenseful twists and turns.
The negatives: the political part of the book was a little boring to me and drawn out.
Overall I enjoyed this book and would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Mary Kay Andrews writes about characters that you would want to meet in real life. That is the beauty about her books. I especially like when the characters are strong female leads.

My favorite character in this book was the grandmother. Although she had a supporting part in the book, she is definitely a person I would want in my life. Conley, the main character, is a journalist who returns to her small hometown when she is in between jobs. The books deals a lot with her relationship with her sister and her grandmother. It also involves a love interest.

I enjoyed this book because it was a simple summer read, but it wasn't my favorite of Andrews' books. It was a little dull in the middle for me.

I gave this book three out of five stars. I was given this book for my honest review.

Mary Kay Andrews writes the best "Southern" titles as well as stories perfect for beach and/or summer reading. Hello Summer was no exception and I simply adored the column and the quirky characters. Don't we all know people like this? It has been a hit with my patrons and highly recommended.

Another Florida location, this one is a small town where Conley Hawkins returns when her high-power new job falls prey to the new era where hard-copy newspapers are failing right and left. Her sister runs the failing hometown newspaper their grandfather started. Conley doesn't want to work there and fights tooth and nail against it, but her grandmother convinces her to help out while she's trying to figure out her next step. And it doesn't hurt that the boy she had a crush on in high school lives next door. All is well, but then Conley and Sean come upon a fatal accident involving a political figure, and when a scandal erupts -- well, of course she gets involved in solving it. Add in a scheming widow, a silly manchild of a son, an ex-wife and grown children, lots of covering up of details, corrupt cops, and it all becomes a great story.

Conley Hawkins goes home to the Florida panhandle after her new journalism job in D.C. falls through. It’s just (she hopes) temporary, and until she can work things out she can help her sister with The Silver Bay Beacon, the struggling family newspaper. But then she witnesses the death of a prominent congressman and things take a turn for the worse. Some mystery, romance and MKA's signature wit and spunky-ness made this a nice summer read! Not my favorite of hers, but a good quick beach read.
Thanks to Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin's Press and NetGallley for the ARC.

Another excellent read from Mary Kay Andrews! I can’t recall when I discovered her books, but they just keep getting better and better. Hello, Summer takes us back to the beach, this time in Florida. While parts of it are a bit predictable, it is still very entertaining and engaging. Andrews’ characters are always fun and likable; Conley may be one of my favorite heroines.

I can’t wait to see what Mary Kay Andrews has to offer up next time!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Mary Kay Andrews and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

There is a reason that Mary Kay Andrews has become an auto-read author for me. She's consistently fantastic and I'm always so excited to see that she has a new one coming! What a great read! Such a fun, fast-paced novel. The perfect beach read or just an escape read! Definitely will capture your attention and hold it to the end! Family secrets, family drama, and a nice, soft romance. I loved the mix - mystery, drama, and a light romance. It's a substantial read (500ish pages) but it flew by for me. Highly recommend it!

Conley Hawkins was raised a small town girl where her family ran the newspaper the Beacon. She moved away and had high hopes and dreams of becoming a big time writer for a bigger newspaper up north. When her dreams come crashing down and she has to go back home, she does so dragging her tail and not expecting the chaos that ensues. The scandal that she stumbles across could surely ruin lives. This book is a must read.
