Perfect book to throw in your beach bag. Light enough for summer, with enough substance to keep you turning the pages. Mary Kay Andrews does not disappoint in this look at the perils of returning to where you grew up after years of staying away. Can two sisters who have always been rivals actually work together?
Strong main characters, but the secondary characters are just as well developed!
Must read!

Every summer I look forward to Mary Kay Andrews' latest release and this summer's is SO GOOD that I can't wait for my friends to dive into it!
Hello, Summer follows Conley Hawkins after she returns home to Florida and begrudgingly agrees to help her sister out at the family owned newspaper, although her career track has led her far from the days doing the police blotter. An unlucky ride home leads Conley down the hot trail of a story that has been buried for decades and she may have found the story to get her back in the mainstream papers and out of the one-horse town she grew up in.
I loved EVERY character in this novel and I didn't want it to end. This is a common trend with all of Mary Kay's books and this is no different.
This was an absolute delight to get lost into and I think everyone will enjoy this summer escape this year.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

Hello Summer is filled with fun, romance, home town gossip, scandal, and a bit of a mystery. Everything you need for a good beach read. The characters are down to earth, lovable, and believable. You can always count on Mary Kay Andrews to give you a story filled with great characters you'll come to love and a story that will keep you wanting more.
Thank you Mary Kay Andrews, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC!

3.5 stars - MKA id the queen of combining family drama and a light mystery to create the perfect beach (or quarantine!!) read! I did feel that this one dragged on a little too long and could have been shortened without losing any of the plot. This will be a great 2020 summer read!
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I cannot wait until this book comes out so I can recommend it to all my Mary Kay Andrews fans AND all fans of romance/mysteries! Successful journalist Sarah Conley Hawkins finds herself back in her tiny Florida Panhandle hometown after a promised job offer fizzles out. She reluctantly pitches in to help with the local newspaper her family has owned for generations. She isn't in town for more than a few days when she finds herself in the middle of a mystery that involves murder and politics. She uses her considerable journalistic skills to bring the truth to light. There is a low-key romance subplot involving a friend from her childhood, but the romance, as appealing as it is, definitely takes a back seat to the mystery, which in this case is a good thing! Sarah Conley is a great character -- I hope Mary Kay Andrews brings her back in another book. Tons of appeal here: strong characters, beautiful beach setting, well-paced plot, romance, and mystery. Loved it!

Mary Kay Andrews, Hello Summer is nothing short of a mystery/thriller with a sprinkle of hometown, boy next door romance. The death of a prominent figure of a small town and the journey of Conley Hawkins looking to unearth the secrets attached to it. Mary Kay wrote this book in a way that keeps you reading as you yourself want answers just as much as the main character of the book does. I enjoyed this ARC and looking foreard to reading more Mary Kay Andrews in the future.
Thank you Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review.

Every year I look forward to Mary Kay Andrews’ new release, and Hello, Summer did not disappoint! When her new job goes to hell in a hand-basket, Conley Hawkins returns home to Silver Bay, Florida, and has no idea what she's in for. She witnesses a fatal accident on her first night back, that leaves this quaint little beach town up in arms. It is a great story about rekindling romances and mending family relationships. This book also contains lots of mystery and small town scandals throughout, that will have you guessing the entire time.

I have to admit, I was not a big fan of Mary Kay Andrews last 2 books. I feel as she has redeemed herself with this book. Ms. Andrews spins a tale of a star journalist turned down-on-her luck reporter in just a matter of hours triumphant return to her hometown. She uncovers a scandal, repairs her relationship with her sister, helps save her family newspaper, and falls in love with the boy next door. All in all, this book is a definite read! I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.

It was a very pleasant book which entertained . Not intense or anxiety provoking. Good character development.

Conley quit her job at an Atlanta newspaper to move on to a more prestigious job only to hear, during her going away party, that the publication has shut down. Conley heads home to Florida to re group while looking for a new job. Her family runs the only newspaper in her hometown. A news story that goes national puts the spotlight on Conley and her little town. I loved the characters in this book, especially her Grandma. I would give this book 4 12 stars. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Great Book!
Conley, an up and coming journalist, finds herself in between jobs so she decides to go home and spend time with her grandmother and her estranged sister, who happens to run the family's local newspaper. While home, Conley accidentally stumbles across an accident, which leads to one of the biggest stories of her career, and of her town. The accident leads to. a lot of secrets being uncovered, lies being exposed, and families coming together. What happens when Conley's story leads to a job offer of a life time? Can she be happy leaving her family again, or will she find her ever after in her small home town?
Wonderful characters, intricate plot that kept me turning the pages, and truly enjoyable story.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for sending me an advanced copy of Hello, Summer in exchange for my honest review.
Mary Kay Andrews books are such fun beach reads that made me pretend I was sitting on the Gulf Coast beach and loved that this had a little bit of mystery along with her usual beach read.
I loved the small town setting with the local paper, local politics, small town gossip and how sometimes coming back home is more than what you think it will be. The challenging family dynamics also add to the fun!

This was an entertaining book. I’ve read several of this author’s books and this one didn’t disappoint. It had likeable characters with a few quirky ones thrown in. The story had a touch of mystery/scandal and romance. I loved it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy

I really struggled with this book. Hard to connect with the characters. Was really looking for escapism at this moment and this did not fit the bill. I know Mary Kay Andrews has a huge fan base so i thought I would enjoy this, but i am sad to say I will not pick up another book by this author anytime soon.

I am a huge fan of Mary Kay Andrews and will read anything she writes. This one was a little long and slow to start. Not her best, but overall an entertaining story.

I loved this book so much. I said this with her last book and now I'm applying it to this book -- it's her best one yet! How is that possible?!? Great mystery, characters and settings. The perfect escape.

From the beginning of this book, I was captivated with the story. As a former journalism teacher, I enjoyed having elements (and issues) of publishing woven into the story in a realistic way. Though I liked the plot, what t I enjoyed most were the characters. There is truly something for everyone and each with their own district personality: I could imagine their voices in my head as I read. For humor nothing is more fun than the Hello, Summer columnist--such a fun portrayal of the old gossip columns of the past. And Mary Kay must have had a blast writing those sections. Finally, sometimes when I read books there are large sections where I skim because it seems to be excessive backstory or excessive narration, and I found that didn't occur in this novel. Everything I read was relevant to the story development. Excellent summer reading!

Hello, Summer will grab you from page one--it's a great "summer" read!
Conley Hawkins is leaving her reporter job for a new one, only to find out via text that the new company has unexpectedly closed. She packs up, heads back home to her grandmother and sister to reassess. From there, family loyalty, small town chatter and a death all come into play. Plus the boy-next-door!
A must read for Mary Kay Andrews readers-you won't be disappointed
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the preread. I found myself lost in the story, able to forget the issues at hand (covid19). Thank you for the break from reality!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Mary Kay Andrews is a favorite author of mine and I will generally pick up anything she writes and read it without question.
Conley Hawkins is an out-of-work reporter with some big league credentials and a family background in the newspaper business. Facing an uncertain future, she returns to her hometown in Silver Bay, Florida, and is reluctantly drawn back into the family business. Twists and turns ensue!
Conley is a well-developed and interesting character haunted by the ghosts of her past, but Andrews provides us with several other great characters in this novel as well. Conley's sister, Grayson, is much more complex than she seems, and I absolutely loved Conley's grandmother, Lorraine who is committed to routine and custom, spending every summer at The Dunes, her beach house, come hell or high water.
Packed with sinister characters, shady politicians, mysterious ex-wives, old boyfriends, and a sleepy, Southern town, Andrews delivers yet another winner.
I'm thankful to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC!

Mary Kay has hit another one out of the park. I believe we have all come to rely on her Spring novels as the "Official start of Summer Season". As usual, her characters are full of life and gentle humor and if you need a taste of the South, the pages are swimming in it.
This novel has all of the small town charm and flamboyant characters that makes the book so fun to read, while at the same time there is a sinister undertone that not only weaves through the story, but keeps us racing through the pages to find out what happens next.
I highly recommend this book, which will come out just in time to start dusting off those beach chairs!
