While I adore all of MKA’s work, Hello Summer has assumed place of honor as one of my favorites to date. Though many of Andrews’s light-hearted books deal with families, Hello Summer is an engrossing foray into family interactions: mothers, fathers, grandmothers, sisters, and sons; coupled with a moving depiction of what it means to be truly successful. Add a dash of romance into the mix, and you have what is sure to be one of the best reads of summer 2020. Thanks go to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What a surprising book. Judging from Hello, Summer's cover, you think a fun beach read, but what you get is so much more. A book that is part small town, part family saga, and part mystery. A great blend that keeps you reading and guessing til the end. A great read!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press for an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review.

You can count on a book by Mary Kay Andrews to deliver characters you quickly love and a story of complex relationships.

When Sarah Conley Hawkins finds herself back in Silver Bay FL family dynamics complicate her already upended life. G'mama, Lorraine DuBignon Conley, still has final say in the family owned, local weekly newspaper. Grayson may be (Sarah) Conley's older sister but she is the one putting out the newspaper as print journalism is dying. Their childhood neighbor, Sean Kelly aka Skelly, now runs his family's pharmacy. Though is he Grayson' age he's always been in love with Sarah (Conley).

The plot involves the death of a senator and more family dynamics in a small town setting.

A great beach read even if you're not on a beach or it's not summer.

A long way from her Hissy Fit days, Mary Kay Andrews has succeeded in bringing to life the small town experience, complete with scandal. "Nothing ever happens in Silver Bay," is what the protagonist laments as she tucks her tail and heads back home from the big city. However, fate has something else in store for her and all the residents of this town. With murder, mystery, several scandals, family drama, and even a little bit of romance, this is the perfect beach read for a lazy summer day....because you're not going to want to put it down once you've started!

Delicious beach read! Conley Hawkins was just about to start her dream job as a reporter in New York City. But the job fell through and she finds herself heading home to her small town in Florida. Her sister is there running the family’s newspaper. Conley gets roped in to help and things get complicated. I loved the mystery and the love interest!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love Mary Kay Andrews, and, as a former small town newspaper reporter and editor, I may be biased, but this latest book is her best yet.

After finding out her dream job has disappeared ace reporter Conley returns home to her small Florida town to work begrudgingly for her sister, who gave up everything to care for their grandmother and run the paper.

With the fall of print everywhere, this book hit close to home for me, and I loved every second of Conley adjusting to small town life as she worked and reported on the death of a local politician with a shady past.

Even if you have never set foot in a newspaper, readers will love the mix of family drama, romance and ambition this book weaves together. Andrews is a fun writer, and this book is entertaining with a dash of intrigue.

If you have never read a Mary Kay Andrews book, this is a great start.

Thanks to NetGalley.com, the publisher, and author for my ARC.

A fun chick lit book that had a good bit of tension and suspense which moved the story along quickly and kept me wondering throughout.

Mary Kay Andrews has written yet another great story. Conley Hawkins, a newspaper reporter learns at her going-away party the news group she was going to work for no longer exists. Since she has burned all her bridges in Atlanta, she heads for Silver Bay, Florida where she grew up and her family publishes the Beacon, a weekly newspaper. She has no intention of working for the Silver Bay Beacon. but finds herself involved after she is first on the scene of a fiery accident involving a prominent local politician. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and couldn't put this book down.

Hello, Summer lends a journalistic perspective to small town families and the dramas unveiled as a prominent resident dies. Family secrets are unearthed and sifted through for evidence of factual truths hidden beneath the subjectivity of small town accounts of newsworthy events. The structures of families and their varied issues are examined as the main character becomes thrust into her family-owned, struggling newspaper business. As she struggles with trying to update the printed newspaper into the modern age of social media, she seeks to remain true to her big city journalistic acclaim. Battling angst of an estranged sibling, aging grandmother, and teenage memories, her journalistic instincts war with decades of small town ethics deeming what constitutes acceptable newspaper articles. The public’s right to know versus individual’s and families’ rights to privacy is a fascinating thread woven throughout this intricate exploration of the eclectic residents as the beautiful beach sunsets bring closure to decades of secrets.

Conley Hawkins thought she had the world by the tail. Years after leaving her family newspaper and small southern town, her big shot at a glitzy New York City newspaper falls through. Much to her dismay, she finds herself back at the tiny Silver Bay Beacon, where the big news is who died the night before. But it turns out that there’s real news in town, news that culminates in the death of a local war hero and politician. Andrews is a favorite of the beach book set and her newest is bound to be a hit

A story of finding the balance between ambition and family, hometown and adventure, and finding a way to move beyond the roles siblings fall into. Conley has left her small town and the family small town paper to make her way as a journalist in the 'big city'. When her big opportunity evaporates she finds herself home in her small town and back to bickering with her sister Grayson who is running the family paper. A local tragedy with national implications changes things for both Conley and Grayson. Will this be the start of something new or will the sisters go back to their old patterns?
