For being a graphic novel that is made for the children public the story have nothing dark. Everything is very light, funny and cute, a good story to read in only one day.

All of the family relationship is very beautiful and truly with a lot of lessons being learned. They are very close and it's beautiful looking their family growing during the reading.
Lisette parents are very real, a lot of times I could see my own parents saying what they say.
For being a moroccan and jewish family living in French they suffer preconception and some difficulties, specially Lisette that is always scary of doesn't having a relationship with other people because of her religion.
As the chapters pass it's possible to see Lisette's evolution and her internal conflicts. Every time it's noticeable her doubts about her priorities, art or another profission?

The biggest (and only) mistake that bothered me a lot was how some important caracters and moments haven't been very well developed.
A lot of Lisette friends are presented, but from one hour to another they disappear and I didn't know what happened to them!
The moment that this lack of development happened and REALLY bothered me was the end. Everything that could happen in, at least, 60 pages was made in 30 pages! The end was very fast and I really wanted to know all of this with more details.

I'm very interessed to know what happened after the end, because I felt Lisette was part of my family.

While I appreciated the cute storyline and illustrations, I found this book very long without much happening. For over 300 pages it is very quiet and sweet and uneventful. I also could not get a feel for the artwork in terms of the colors that would eventually be used and the text quality. It has potential, but right now I’m not sold.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy of this comic in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was interesting that the author wrote a memoir about herself in the form of a comic. I loved that idea so I decided request this and luckily I got requested.

I thought the story was very fun and relatable. I myself had some trouble thinking about what I wanted to do in life and I know for a fact that many of my friends around me had this same problem in high school when the time came to pick the courses you wanted to do your final exam in. I thought this comic perfectly described it and in such a way that it was enjoyable to read about. Very nice.

The Art in this comic is very simple yet very clear. It's very pleasing to the eye and doesn't require much thought when it comes to the story and what you're supposed to take away from this. I loved it.

Definitely would recommend this comic to many people who are interested I think it's very fun :D

While I enjoyed this memoir of the author's life growing up in a house on the school property where her father was principal, I felt that there was stuff left out. The ending seems abrupt.

The insights were interesting, however, as were her observations about how her mother and her father thought.

We see her trying to become an artist, against her parents wishes. The one thing she is passionate about, they want her to give up.

It is disheartening to see it.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I got this on Netgalley in exchange of an honest review:

This is a wonderful story, and I can really relate to the struggle at deciding what you want to do in life, especially when your heart and head says two different things, and your family another. It is very honest about everyday struggles, both personal ones, and those related to the family. I was actually a bit disappointed when the graphic novel ended because I was so excited to find out what happened! So you could say that I really enjoyed it!
I can't wait to see how it looks when it is all finished!
