I started this book and realized that though excellently written and just the type of book a true fantasy reader would devour I, perhaps, am no longer a lover of this genre. I believe the series will do well and wouldn't mind posting something like this as a "review" but did not finish. I still have over a month to look at this book again and if my time allows might read more as it is a good story...just not my cup of tea at this time in my life. Thank you for the opportunity of reading this author's work.

An interesting world-building I enjoyed, with characters I enjoyed less. I'll continue the series just for the world and hope I like the characters more as I go.

this was a great start to a series, the characters were great and I really enjoyed reading this. It was great getting to know this world and the people in it.

An interesting mix of genres, that builds a world on the edge of a dystopian cycle where it is destined to die and suffer through renewal. The characters are well defined; with their destinies prescribed by birth and station, they must struggle to find a path to change their history before it destroys them. This is book 1 in a saga that will keep this reader working through the many choices that have been made, and the ones yet to be made. Definitely not a light read but it is most definitely a book you will remember.

The themes of family, politics, and xenophobia are presented in an interesting way in this story. The setting is unique to itself, captivating, and breathes life into the characters, their station in life, and their heritage. The story itself is cool, the events leading seamlessly into each other-- sometimes a little surprisingly. Though the plot is complex, it's not too complex to follow and the author fits it all together pretty well.

The characters are well developed, but the number of characters makes it easy to become confused or lost as to who is who, especially in the first half. In the second half, I got a better sense of the important players. The writing is great; scenes are written in such a way that I felt like I was there within the scene itself.

The time jumps in each POV are covered by another character's POV, helping it move along better. The characters evolved throughout the story, which was nice because this is a character driven novel. The pacing is good, consistent while allowing for a complex world to be built around you.

One thing I didn't enjoy was that you're dropped right in and you don't get to learn much about the characters in their first POV, you instead get jumped around and slowly learn about them. Other than that, I enjoyed this book.

This was okay. It was not kind blowing or world changing. Very young voice, a good YA fantasy novel. However I am not anxiously waiting for book 3

I recieved an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I really don't know what to say. I usually talk about what I like and disliked, then the pros [what is done well] and cons [some amateur criticisms]. I was so hooked by the book, I just didn't get the time to think it through. Even if I had any complaints, I forgot. [Which says something]. So I'll just be talking about what I loved.

-The Characters and their dynamics. I love them.
-The flow of the book. It was SMOOTH. [It did take me some time to process it though, It happens to me for some reason with any and all fantasy book I've read, so that's not the point of it.] The threads of story line had minimal friction and they are woven together beautifully in the end.
-The Set up for the next book. Although It takes place in another continent, the author somhow did it gracefully. [how?!!?]

-I actually didn't like the map. But yet I can still appreciate the geography, and the problems the clans would face due to shenanigans. I don't like the map, but I appreciate the use of it.

That's all. I'd love to jump into the next book. But, fantasy in general is quite mentalyy draining for me, so I'll just read something else right now, then jump right back in. {I'd love to be able to read it now tho]
