"Sky of Bombs, Sky of Stars" by Skrypuch is based on true events, a story of an escape from a war torn Vietnam. This story, told from a young child’s point of view explains not only the horrors of war experience but also difficulties faced during assimilation in a new country. This is a moving account of survival, resilience, patience and acceptance. Exceptional.

Tuyet sees the stars in Toronto, when she first comes to Canada, and thinks they are bomb about to fall out of the sky, because that is all she has ever seen. She is an orphan and has suffered from polio, and is in one of the last airlifts out of Vietnam when it collapsed.

The story is told from her point of view, how she can't understand English, or why the nice family is adapting her, as she has always been a servant, even in the orphanage.

Based on her Tuyet's real life, and with extensive interviews, the author has formed a wonderful story of life as a refugee, and what it is like in a strange new world.
