Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the advance copy of this book!

I loved this book. The atmosphere was everything I wanted it to be. I loved the plot and the twist in the book. I loved the characters in this story. It gave me all the feels I was looking for when I started reading this. It was a bit sad at times for me when dealing with a death of family members but still I highly recommend this author. I loved the writing. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.

Review for 'Bobbit Rock' by Joseph Landing

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for BooksGoSocial.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. Unfortunately it will probably be my last unless I happened upon another in the library, in which case I may give the author another go.

I was originally drawn to this book by its creepy cover and intriguing blurb which both relate well to the novel.

This novel is set in South Caroline and consists of 10 chapters which are quite long.

The story is presented from 2 points of views and 3 time lapses. During the main storyline when Isaac is an adult I felt the plot was jumping too far ahead especially during certain scenes where the plot was getting interesting.

The novel started off well and got me pulled in. I enjoyed that it started with Isaac telling who, I assume is, a psychiatrist what happened and then the plot goes to when he was a child and then an adult again. However, the storyline then seems to slow down quite a bit until it picks up at about 50% but again after a while it slowed down for me.

The book was quite well written although there were a few occasions where I did get confused as to who was talking at certain times and with the time jumps.

The descriptions were good and quite gruesome at some points which is a necessity in horrors!!

Unfortunately, I didn't really connect with any of the characters and due to this I never felt committed to the book and didn't feel a need to pick it up.

Overall this book has an interesting concept with some aspects of horror but I found it too confusing at times to really feel a connection with it. This book just wasn't for me. However, all readers are different and others may enjoy it more.

If I was to recommend this book it would be too fans of crime, murder, action and mild horror.

234 pages

£1.55 to purchase on kindle. I think this is a good price for this book

Rated 2/5 (I didn't enjoy it) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon.Com and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Bobbit Rock by Joseph Landing is a psychological horror novel that was part murder mystery, part supernatural, part urban legend, and part allegory. This novel takes place in the fictional town of Callahan, South Carolina, which is known as the Silicon Valley of the South. It is a prosperous town that has unfortunately become the have the highest murder rate per capita in the United States. Our main character is a homicide detective trying desperately to save his hometown from whoever is committing all of these murders. He is a broken man who lost his own wife and unborn child to the hands of the killer or killers. The police are at a loss because the killers never leave behind any evidence, so the killer(s) become known as the Ghost Killers. But some of the people claim that Callahan is actually being cursed by The Wretched Man. The Wretched Man is a Carolina folktale stemming from a massive rock formation known as Bobbit Rock. Many people have attempted to climb this rock and have failed, plunging to their deaths. Some people claim that the Rock is cursed by the devil himself. What if the devil is still living on Earth and what is he has decided to take out his misery and suffering on the town of Callahan. Is there any redemption for Callahan or will the Ghost Killers continue their reign of death on the town of Callahan?
Overall, Bobbit Rock was a wild ride that I could hardly wait to find out the conclusion. I do wish that we could have found out more about Bobbit Rock and the legend surrounding it. Some of the plot felt a bit rushed and I genuinely wanted to spend more time in Callahan and with our characters.

A strange rock formation the locals call Bobbit Rock stands in an eerie forest clearing outside of Callahan, South Carolina. As a child Isaac decided to climb the cursed rock, a task that had killed others before him. Isaac succeeded.
Years later Isaac is a widowed Police Detective. Callahan is enduring a sick and twisted murder spree. The police can find no evidence, no witness...they dub the killers "The Ghost Killers", plural because no one person can do that much killing. The citizens of Callahan are blaming "the Wretched Man", a theory the police discourage as silly myth. Except, secretly, Isaac has his own memories of the Wretched Man. Are they memories, imagination or nightmares? Readers.....have YOU met the Wretched Man?
Thank you #NetGalley for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for my honest review. #BobbitRock

What can I say about this book! I've never read a book with an opening like it. The first chapter engages you completely. It portrays Isaac talking with Dr Brady, presumably his psychiatrist. Whilst talking we have flashbacks to the events that started this nightmare for Isaac. The description is fantastic and you really feel the despair Isaac feels.

Bobbit Rock and the devil are to be feared. Don't try and be brave, just run.

The town Callahan is a complete mess. Throughout the tale, it just progresses into an absolute nightmare, where you want to leave, but can't. It just leaves you with despair. The shining light in all of this is Grace. Her name is ironic. The characters were brilliant. I loved the writing, it really enticed me in.

I don't want to give much away, but I wish the ending linked more to the start. I also would have liked more of the bobbit rock to have featured in amongst the chaos.

Brilliant read, and very much looking forward to see what this author shows us next.

Hallahan a city in North Carolina is dying. Everyday there are more and more murders. David and Issac childhood friends are now detectives. They've heard that it could be the work of Ghost Killers or scarier still, The Wretched Man.
The Wretched Man has been a legend of that area. A demon that kills without conscience or remorse
This is an urban legend story. It is raw, violent, bloody. The main character is strong and likable. You cheer him on to succeed. The supporting characters add to the story making the story gel.
It is a story of love, courage, hate, forgiveness and strength.
Great read!
