Was surprised for this to solely be a sample. From what I saw, though, this feels a bit like something you would buy at a school bake sale or at best, a Hallmark store. Production values aren't the best, and the recipes are quite slight. I now know how to de-feather a chicken, though. So there's that.

The book is well designed with beautiful pictures and a sturdy spiral notebook design that is perfect fir use in the kitchen. It is full of wonderful and easy recipes. I was so excited when I received my copy and spent hours looking at the easy recipes. I loved the garden tips found at the end of the book. It has recipes to help rid your garden of pesky bugs uses ingredients that are not harmful .

There are also household tips from how to unclog drains to removing rust stains. The book reminds me of my granddad’s farm. He used simple ingredients also to make soap
and cleaning products to keep windows shiny. The author takes you back to days where cooking was simple and delicious. I have tried several recipes and found them to be easy to make. I loved the Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad. It is so good and even comes with an easy to make dressing to pour over it. This is a must for every kitchen to have when looking for recipes that are tasty and easy to make.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Barbour Publishing. The review is my own opinion.

I really enjoyed flicking through this book and reading a bit about what I thought was the authors life, and then discovered it wasn't after double-checking the name. This didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book though. Even though I am Australian and would have to convert a lot of the recipes they all looked tasty and easily understood.
I like the mix of photographs and thought it was a lovely touch having the names of the recipe creators at the end of each recipe.
It was a lovely surprise at the end to see the home remedies and tips, even the barnyard tips will be useful to some readers that do have pets or small farms.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and can see myself making dishes out of it.

Award winning, best-selling author Wanda Brunstetter has given us another five-star treat with her newest cookbook, Amish Friends' Farmhouse Favorites. This spiral bound treasure has an eye-catching cover with pictures of Amish pictures. It is filled with over two hundred scrumptious recipes, helpful tips, and tales.
The recipes are down-home and not ones that have unknown ingredients. I thought the recipes were easy to read and follow. The directions were clear and simple. This is a down to earth, simple-fare cookbook that will benefit anyone’s kitchen library. Vibrantly colored pictured are sprinkled throughout to make you drool.
Inspiration and cute quotes accompany pictures introducing the sections. The one for Desserts said “Many blessings are overlooked because they don’t cost us anything” by Katie Gingerich, Dalton, OH. Some of the recipes had names that made me chuckle. For instance, have you heard of “Wash Day Pudding, Hans Waschtlin, or Amish Sawdust Pie”. I even found natural recipes for spider-be-gone, baby wipes, and mold remover. Garden Tips is the last section, and I found that very interesting.
This is a remarkable book. It is much more than an ordinary one. I found myself reading through it like a fiction book and could imagine myself right there in the community with them. This book is well planned and organized. It is easy to find a particular recipe using the index in the back.
I highly recommend this stunning Amish cookbook. It is definitely one of my favorites already. Get a copy for yourself and that cookbook collector or Amish lover that you know. I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars.

The book Amish Friends Farmhouse Favorite Cookbook, has a number of familiar recipes in it. A lot of the recipes where very easy to make and didn’t require hard to find ingredients. I also appreciated that the book also contained recipes for homemade health remedies, as well as a small section of recipes to help animals on the farm. Overall, I thought the recipes were basic and could be used to teach those who may have never cooked before.

The more you read, the more you develop an affinity for something more. This book left me wanting more. The tagline says, “including advice and stories” and I found the book lacking in both. When I pick-up a book of farmhouse favorites of Amish friends - I’m expecting stories. Stories about collecting eggs for baking, milk for cottage cheese, rhubarb for pie. Stories about learning tips from you mother, or grandmother, or neighbor. Stories about when you might have made a bath soak for yourself, a concoction for a child’s earache, or a deterrent for mice. The recipes are all here. What’s missing are the stories - and thus any kind of real intrigue for the book.

Sorry for the poor review. I was offered an advance digital copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

This recipe book is another wonderful and tasty treat from Wanda E. Brunsetter. Filled with over 200 recipes there is definitely something for everybody to try. It's not only full of delicious recipes but delightful stories to read along the way. As you make your way through the book you get a true feel for the Amish way of life and the enjoyment they get from making simple but heavenly meals. I tried several recipes throughout the book and plan to continue on my journey trying many more. My favorite out of those I tried was the Blueberry Coffee Cake, you see I have my own blueberry bush and they are in season at the moment which was a win, win situation for me. I was excited to have a new recipe to use my blueberries on and even happier with my results! I love finding new Coffee Cake recipes and this one is a keeper. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients aren't hard to find. I look forward to trying more recipes and tastings in my future.

For those who like homestyle country cooking, New York Times bestselling author Wanda Brunstetter brings another collection of Amish-inspired recipes with "Amish Friends Farmhouse Favorites Cookbook."
Amish and Mennonite cooks have contributed more than 200 recipes to Brunstetter's book, bridging from appetizers, drinks, main dishes, side dishes and desserts, as well as kitchen tips and tricks and stories from their Amish farms.

Recipes included range from breakfast like Blueberry Coffee Cake, Scrambled Sweet Corn Eggs and Western Omelet, to drinks like Strawberry Basil Lemonade and Quick Rootbeer. Snacks offer dishes like Pretzel Dip, Alabama Firecrackers, Ranch Pretzels and more. There are also breads like Zucchini Muffins and Sour Cream Rolls. Salad-type side dishes have 5-Minute Salad and Apple Salad to name a few. There are plenty of casseroles like Broccoli Casserole and Cozy Cousins Casserole to give you something new to try. Desserts are always the best part of Amish Country, and include new flavors to try like Spicy Gingerbread with Creamy Caramel Sauce and Maple Drop Cookies. There is also a section on home remedies and cleaners as well.

With color photos of the food and scenery as well as plenty of charm, this is one fans of the Amish genre and home cooks may want to try out.

I grew up in the countryside in Upstate New York. I always loved watching the way the Amish lived their lives. It seemed so easy. Many stores sold homemade treats and other objects that the Amish made and I was always looking to try their items!

This is a cookbook from Wanda Brunstetter with Amish recipes. I loved that many of the recipes had color photos to look at. I wish there were more “normal” recipes. Some recipes seem to take spices and such that are hard to locate.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley.com and was under no obligation to post a review.

The Amish are famous for their cooking, and the fact that it is generally simple but delicious. One of the most prolific Amish cookbook authors is Wanda E. Brunstetter, who has released several Amish cookbooks over the years. Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Farmhouse Favorites Cookbook: A Collection of Over 200 Recipes for Simple and Hearty Meals, Including Advice and Stories is the latest, and although I was able to only review a sample of the new book, it looks similar to those that have come before. The recipes aren’t Brunstetter’s; rather they are recipes from others that she has compiled in a cookbook. It is unknown if the recipes are tested – hopefully, they are – and reading through the recipes, it seems that there is very little that is new or innovative. In fact, the recipes are tried and true recipes that most of us have been making from church and community cookbooks for decades. That is not to say that the recipes aren’t worth making – there are several that sound appetizing. The instructions are succinct and organized, so cooks will have no problem following the recipes to get picture-perfect results. And there are pictures – beautiful photographs, in fact, of some of the recipes, which makes it more professional and so that readers won’t feel like they are reading a laundry list of things they can make. Unlike some favorite cookbooks, there are no notes, vignettes or stories about the recipes, which is unfortunate.

There is however, a chapter at the end that has all kinds of recipes and helps to do things like make milk replacement for baby animals, defeathering a chicken, and pest control with rodent and insect deterrents. I have never owned a book with these “recipes”, and although I hope not to have to actually use the information anytime soon, it’s there just in case. Those cooks who love Amish cookbooks, as well as community and church cookbooks will certainly find something they like about this cookbook.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Thanks to Shiloh Run Press, Barbour Publishing, Inc., and NetGalley for a temporary digital ARC of Wanda E. Brunstetter's SAMPLE Amish Friend's Farmhouse Favorites Cookbook: A Collection of Over 200 Recipes for Simple and Hearty Meals, Including Advice and Stories by Wanda E. Brunstetter. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
This spiral bound recipe book has a beautiful cover and is nicely organized with a Table of Contents at the front and an Index of Recipes by Section and an Index of Recipes by Key Ingredients at the back. There are recipes for Breakfast, Beverages and Snacks, Breads and Rolls, Salads and Side Dishes, Main Dishes, Desserts, Condiments from Scratch, and Home Remedies and Tips. Beautiful photographs are at the beginning of each section and accompany some of the recipes.

The author's story of life on the farm is very interesting and educational. I did not realize that dandelion flowers were edible.
"We cut dandelion flowers, painstakingly washed them, set them on a towel to dry, rolled them in flour, and fried them in butter."
The Blueberry Coffee Cake looks delicious! So do the Garlic Cheddar Biscuits! Big Batch Granola would be great to make and have on hand for a quick breakfast cereal, lunch box treats, camping, hiking, or seal in Mason jars for gifts.
I know that the Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad is delicious because it is the same as my favourite recipe that I have been using for years. Some other recipes that I want to try are Cheddar Spoon Bread, Morning Glory Muffins, Zucchini Fries and Zucchini Puffs, Broccoli Casserole, Oven-Fried Chicken, Chicken And Dumpling Casserole, Zucchini Spaghetti Casserole, Farm Journal Chocolate Cake, Coffee Walnut Cake, Green Tomato Cake, Rhubarb-Filled Cookies, Rhubarb Swirl, and Zucchini Crisp.
This cookbook would be an excellent addition to any kitchen. I plan to purchase this cookbook for myself when it becomes available on June 1, 2020. It would also make a great gift - housewarming gift, shower gift, birthday gift, graduation gift and Christmas gift.

Such an interesting and all inclusive book. There are recipes for just about every type of meal there is, but also there are remedy recipes, pest control tips, barnyard tips and gardening tips in their own sections as well. And there's a bit of history/explanation of the Amish for those looking to learn more about their lifestyle.

This looks like it will be a really nice book. I like the organization of it. Being from PA, a lot of these recipes are familiar to me. Nicely done!

I made several of the recipes in this cookbook and they were wonderful. I made several of the spice mixtures and they turned out great. And then I made the Amish Cake, which is very similar to coffeecake and it was delicious.

Amish Friends Farmhouse Favorites Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter is a great collection of recipes from main dishes to desserts and snacks. All of the recipes make enough for a crowd but could be cut down for smaller families. I think they will be great to take to potlucks as I often double my recipes in such cases. They all sound like they will be delicious and I plan to try some of the recipes soon. I recommend this cookbook and give it 5 of 5 stars.
