I finished this a few days ago and have put off my review because I have such mixed feelings about this book and they're hard for me to articulate. I really enjoyed this while reading it, but the more I think about it the madder I get. I love fanfic, but this felt like bad fanfic. All the Trump stuff felt like wish fulfillment and I didn't find it credible.

What if Hillary didn't marry Bill Clinton and instead pursued her own political career early. This insightful fictional story offers us a bit of biographical tidbits into what is already known about her life early on and meeting/dating the charismatic Bill Clinton. There are laugh out loud moments when Bill, Hillary and Donald Trump meet. Politics, love and ambition don't always make for the perfect marriage but they do make for a terrific look at what might have been. It is clear that the author is a fan of Hillary and has not as much respect for Bill or our current President. This will appeal to readers of strong political female-driven stories as well as those that enjoy historical fiction with a twist. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

I'll open this review by saying that, in my professional capacity as a librarian, I would absolutely recommend this book. Anything by Curtis Sittenfeld should be an immediate purchase for a public library. As a reader, I admit that this one didn't work for me as well as her previous books, but perhaps there's something inherently cringey about a fictionalized account of a real person's life. Still, a new Curtis Sittenfeld is always cause for celebration, and despite some of my qualms I plowed through it. This one will keep a million book groups busy for years to come. My thanks to Random House and NetGalley for the advance copy.

Loved this! I loved American Wife so I knew I would probably love this as much if not more. The writing is so great...the Trump dialogue was SO perfect, I couldn’t tell what might have been actual quotes from him and what wasn’t.

Let me preface this review by saying I don't really have an opinion about Hillary Clinton. I don't like or dislike her. I don't really know anything about her. But this book fascinated me. Sittenfeld is one of my favorite authors as her fictionalized account of Laura Bush's life, American Wife, inspired me to become a librarian. This time around she explores Hillary Clinton's, with a twist - what if she'd never married Bill? It starts in the early 70s when Bill and Hillary met and fell in love in law school, jumps forward to the early 90s when Bill runs for president, and then to 2015 and Hillary’s campaign for the presidency. It's an alternate history novel that changes the course of American politics and paints Hillary in a positive light. I really enjoyed reading it, especially the second half as it advanced to the present day.

What if, after falling deeply in love with Bill Clinton while they both attend Yale Law School, and moving with him to Arkansas after they graduated, Hillary Rodham decides NOT to marry him and follows her own ambitious path? The character of Hillary Rodham convincingly narrates this gripping alternative history.

Rodham (Curtis Sittenfeld) ticked all the boxes for me....well=written with compelling storytelling and I could not put it down., Rodham is a satisfying and introspective imagining that explores how girls and women are held to different and difficult standards in education and career. This book would be an excellent choice for book clubs and I will recommend it widely. Although I plan to post a goodreads review, it appears that their website is compromised and I will not be able to share a link at this time. I can probably edit this review later to add it, though. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of a wonderful book.

This book was everything I hoped it would be. What would happen if Hillary wasn’t Hillary Clinton but Hillary Rodham? It’s like the best Hillary fan fiction ever.
