This touching book is a must have for kiddos who's parents are deploying. That season of life can be difficult for children to navigate. I feel that the author helps kids find the words to process the feelings about their parent's military service. The reader feels a sense of connection because someone else is experiencing the same things they are too! I highly recommend this book. It will be my go-to book for military families. I'm thankful that the author wrote this book because I know it will have an impact on so many little hearts.

Do you know a family in which a dad is deployed?  If so, and if there is a young child in the family, this title may be a welcome resource.  The author, herself, has experience with the subject of her book.

This is a lovely book for helping children to understand and cope with what it means to have a family member away on a deployment.  It will help children to identify and understand some of the feelings that they experience and to realize why a parent is away.  It will also remind them that, even though a parent is away, they are not alone.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.  My only niggle...why is this about dads and not parents?

Oh, my the best book for children with a dad serving in the military.
Explains to other children what their dad is missing and what he is doing.
I think we need one that is I'll Lend you my Mommy.

As a former military kid I was a little apprehensive about this book. So many people misunderstand and misrepresent our childhood but not this book. This was an exceptional read and I would recommend it for any child, military or not. I felt as if it really captured the heart of those little kid feelings of missing a parent while they were on deployment. I whole-heartedly give this book 5 stars!

I'll Lend You My Daddy by Becky King is a heartwarming story about how children learn to handle their feelings about their fathers being away so often on deployments. It shows how important it is to them to have their parents during birthdays and other events but also how it is possible to learn to handle the sad feelings by understanding why they cannot be there. The illustrations by Valerie Valdivia beautifully accompany these verses on every page. I do wish there was a version about mommies being deployed or that this book included both as there are also a lot of children whose mothers regularly deploy.
