A very witty and informative way to introduce children to mosquitoes. Any curious child will have their questions answered by this fun, short read. The slight sarcasm (and jokes) make the mosquito seem less intimidating, and the images add to this humor.

Bzzzzzz... This book will make you understand the mosquito in a new light. Perfect for readers that want to learn why mosquitos have gotten a bad reputation. Bold cartoony illustrations, simple text, and high quality scientific content are emphasized. This book is a standout, even for non insect fans!

I have read a few books from this series and I really love them... even if I am still not a fan of many of the subjects. These books are SO informational about the disgusting critters we encounter.

This installment focused on the annoying, itchy mosquito. Do I feel like I love them now, NO! but I learned a lot from reading this children's book.

This series is educational in a charming and quirky way and I really like that. Young readers will learn so much from the books information but also get a good laugh at some of the illustrations of the mosquito and her habits.

Love this series and HIGHLY recommend it for parents and kids that love to learn about critters and creatures, especially icky ones.

I love each of these books more than the last. A wonderful introduction for young readers to the world of non-fiction. They are appealing, engaging and wonderful for emerging and strong readers alike.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Elise Gravel is an excellent author and I love her books about animals that people might not like, such as the lowly and strongly disliked mosquito. Such fun books with great illustations that make you almost like mosquitos.

Children have such wide ranging interests and are curious about so many things.  Many will have been bitten by a mosquito at some point.  For kids who like insects or want to know more about that itch, this is a good resource.  It is geared toward elementary school aged children and is full of facts.  Accompanying these facts are cartoon illustrations that are pretty funny.

So young entomologists here is a good resource for you.  Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

Great mix of jokes and facts, love the way the typographic and design elements mesh so well with the art. I look forward to using this one as a read-aloud when it comes out, and anticipate it being very well-received.

Elise Gravel brings The Mosquito to her Disgusting Critters series. Pictures and accessible facts with some silly jokes take mosquitos from pests to relatable creatures in the span of a quick read. Elementary age children will love this addition to their non fiction collection.

The Mosquito was such a cute and informative little book. My kids really enjoyed it because most of their books on insects don't really touch on mosquitoes.

This was a funny informational book about mosquitos. It shows why female mosquitos sting, how fast their wings move and how many babies they have. This is a great book for younger kids!

Every book I have read in this series thus far has been delightful, and “The Mosquito” fits right in. The text is funny and packed with facts and new vocabulary words. The illustrations are cute and funny. This is bound to be educational for any age. Highly recommended!

This cute book gives the spotlight to a bug with a bad name. Children who enjoyed The Fly or "grossest/creepiest" type books will have fun with this while learning something. I would especially recommend for elementary level reluctant readers.

The drawings are fun but the humor isn't my style, and there isn't an incredible amount of content. I will likely purchase a copy of this as a high interest title, but it isn't my favorite.

I received an advance digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent book with information about mosquitoes in a fun format. Throughout the book, readers learn about the mosquitoes lifecycle, types of mosquitoes, and how and why they bite us. Although mosquitoes are an annoying pest, learning more about these blood-sucking flying nuisances is quite interesting! #NetGalley #TheMosquito #nonfictionpicturebooks #picturebooks #informationalpicturebooks #elementaryeducation #teachers #elementaryreads #mosquitoes #mentortexts

The Mosquito is an excellent addition to the Disgusting Critters series ( The Bat (2016), The Rat (2014), The Worm (2014), and more!). Who isn't pestered by or acquainted with these tiny creatures? Elise Gravel humorously shares facts through funny cartoon illustrations, labels, and speech bubbles. Although a few of the vocabulary words, like proboscis, might trip up the kiddos (even some adults!), the overall text will be easily devoured by those interested in learning about these constant companions at any picnic or wet wilderness walk. So glad Gravel has decided to continue this informative series!

While this isn't my favourite Elise Gravel series I enjoy how charming yet educational it is. We've been doing storytime readings once a week at the book shop I work for, and this series is a great success with the younger children. Excited for them to discover its latest instalment and have some laughs while learning a thing or two on a new "disgusting critter".

This is a cute book all about flies. My 5 year old really enjoyed it. The writing it fun for kids and it is very informative. It will go great with a lesson about insects.

This is a charming and educational book that will teach kids all about mosquitoes and entertain them too. It includes vocabulary words and a fair bit of the biology of mosquitoes while still being entertaining throughout. The art is colorful and fun, and kids are likely to really like this one (and learn a bit, too).

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
