I cannot for the life of me understand why any publisher would want to release this in a Kindle version, not even just for review. If there's one thing that Amazon's crappy Kindle conversion process does with utter reliability, it's that it totally mangles anything that's not plain vanilla text. This is one of many reasons reason I refuse to do business with Amazon. The Kindle version was chopped, shredded, julienned, and sliced and diced until the story was out of order and made no sense. Even on a iPad, the images were reliably out of order and sliced in half, and not vertical so they would have at least followed the pages, but horizontally, so it was impossible to read.

Fortunately I have more than one reader app option, and in both Adobe Digital Editions and Bluefire Reader, the book was beautiful: colorful, the illustrations charming, the text brief but informative, and the story well done. The story, written by Nederlander Judith Koppens, and Andy Engel, and illustrated by Nynke Mare Talsma, whose middle name appropriately means 'sea', is of course, the appalling amount of plastic that's in use today, far too much of which gets into the ocean.

It not only gets there in the form of bags and bottles and other large items, it also gets there - and this understandably isn't covered in this story - in the form of micro plastics, some of which is even now probably in the table salt you have in your kitchen. It's a disgrace, a menace, and a health hazard for every living thing, and everything we can do to educate and warn about this is to be commended, which is why I commend this as a worthy and educational read.

This picture book is a great way to introduce students to pollution. Through the use of animals, the author takes on the challenge of educating students about the huge problem with our oceans. It is through this story that young readers will learn about the pollution problem and be challenged to make the change that other generations have failed to make.

Plastic soup, educated children on pollution. While swimming they discover plastic bags, bottles....
They see what harm it is causing the ocean animals.
Informative

What a cute and informative book for kids learning to save the planet! It's simple enough for them to learn the dangers of using plastic and the harm it can do to our environment if we don't try to reduce and reuse.

I would definitely recommend it to any parent wanting to teach their children the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing. The illustrations were great and the animals in the story were super cute as well.

The animal friends are having a fun day at the beach. Frog and fox are diving under the waves when frog comes up with something on his head. He looks like a sea monster, but it’s really a ripped plastic bag. Frog wants to know why a plastic bag is floating in the ocean. This is my favorite line in the book because plastic should not be in our oceans!
The animals end up getting plastic bags from the trash to use to fly as kites. This is supposed to be an example of reusing. The book ends with a project of decorating a canvas bag with a leftover cork.
Problem...
It’s not easy to fly a plastic bag like a kite and scavenging from a trash bin is not cool.

It is a simple story to introduce children to water pollution and little changes that can make a big difference, but the book fell short for me.

Plastic Soup is a sweet little book to introduce kids to the importance of recycling and the negative effects of littering. The illustrations are really bright and cheerful. The topic is heavy (what happens to animals when there's litter?) but is presented in a very kid-friendly way. It opened up some great discussions from my son! Maybe a few too many characters, and a strange sudden change in plot at one point, but overall it's great.
I also enjoyed the activity at the end of the book!

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Clavis Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

A group of animal friends discover that much of the plastic we use ends up cluttering the ocean. (Plastic Soup, get it?) They discuss it simply enough for children to grasp and then share some creative ways to reuse trash and to limit our use of plastics. A simple but cute informative story.

A very simple introduction to plastic waste for children. I felt the message was very direct, but not overly intriguing for young readers.

This was a cute book with great illustrations highlighting the plastic pollution in the ocean. They talk about reusing plastic and even reuse the plastic bags as kites, but it would have been nice to see more conversations/actions regarding the other R’s. Great starter book to have the pollution conversation with children at an early age.

This was a sweet book to help introduce kids to recycling and the negative effects of littering. The colors were bright and happy and there was an activity at the end of the book. The topic was a heavy topic (pollution, littering, what can happen to animals who ingest litter, reusing/recycling) but was presented in a very kid-friendly way and allowed for some great discussions in our house!

I do think there were one too many characters/animals BUT I also think that's a way to teach diversity to kids. :)

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Plastic soup is a cute story about a group of animal friends who go for a day at the beach and find plastic litter in the sea. They realise they can reuse the plastic bags to make kites and have fun with them and read in a magazine about how a great deal of plastic ends up in our oceans.
This book is a good starting platform to build on with children about plastic, using less plastic, recycling, being eco friendly etc but I did feel the book could have included a lot more.

I received an electronic ARC from Clavis Publishing through NetGalley.
The message is important but the small print and flat tone may not interest the target audience. Colorful illustrations will help young readers see the story but the message level is a little high. The abrupt change by Mouse to simply fly kites feels disjointed though the message does continue when they reuse their plastic bags.
Informative text to decorate a reusable cloth bag concludes the book.

Great story for introducing young children to environmental awareness and reducing waste and reusing items. It gives children a look at the bigger picture and how our actions affect the environment.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

Loved this story as an introduction to environmental consciousness for children. The story is a great starting point for conversations on reducing plastic waste, reusing, recycling, and keeping our oceans and beaches clean. Would fit well with an earth day story time or lesson.

This was a sweet book about the implications of all the plastic use. It shows where the plastic can end up and how it can harm animals in the ocean. This book is definitely geared towards very young children, so it is not very in depth.

Plastic soup is a timely book on how to reduce the water pollution. It was clever of all the friends to repurpose and recycle the plastic found in the ocean. Carrying your own fabric grocery bag that is custom decorated is fun. Problem , solution.

The illustrations are all bright colours and very vivid, which children will enjoy a lot. The important thing is naturally the lesson on water pollution and the little things we can all do to help the environment and go around using plastic. This is a great educational picture book, which I think is very on point at the moment, and I highly recommend it for teachers and parents, who want to teach the children about current environmental issues.

I knew I would lve this book from the very title. I'll definitely buy physical copy for myself and to give. This little book is so important to raise awareness from a very yooung age because there is no age to take care of the planet. It's everyone's responsability.
Plastic soup shows perfectly to kid how the use of the plastic is not good for the earth and especially for the animal in a very interesting way! I would 100% recommand it!

Plastic Soup cute little book about plastic that should not be in the water. Was a little hard to read as was sideways. Would be a much better book to have in a book not an ebook. The colors definitely appeal to children.
