There were a few things that annoyed me a bit, but overall this was good! I'm excited to read the next volume and I definitely want to buy this.

Solid story. The characters were wonderful but I felt like the pace was off. Things felt rushed which threw off the mystery angle. It was a nice coming of age/independence story but not what I expected. I would still recommend it for the relationship dynamics.

If you've ever thought that you really wanted to read a comic that combines the best elements of Son in Law (and yes I mean the Pauly Shore movie), Tales of the City, and Cordelia Chase's ghostly roommate Dennis, boy have I good news for you! Ghosted in L.A. is a cute little comic about finding yourself in the City of Angels and what it means to embrace who you truly are and the regrets that haunt you if you miss your chance. While at times the protagonist Daphne can be overly naive and annoying most of that can be forgiven in that she's only 18 and suffering from an extreme upheaval in her life. I can't wait to see what happens going forward and to solve the mysteries of why ghosts are drawn to Rycroft Manor as well as that cliffhanger! Bonus points for the Riverdale mention and ALL THE POINTS for using one of my favorite 30 Rock quotes. Excuse me while I go work on my night cheese.

Thanks to NetGalley and BOOM! Studios for providing this copy to review.

Representation: bi/pan Jewish main character, several queer side characters.

I enormously enjoyed this supernatural romp in Los Angeles! Daphne graduates high school and moves to L.A. for college, following her high school boyfriend. When she arrives, she finds a rude roommate and gets dumped by her sweetheart. Lost and alone, she's wandering the streets sobbing her heart out when she runs into a light pole and notices a big old mansion, Rycroft Manor. Out of curiosity, she goes in and encounters ghosts! After the initial panic, she negotiates with them, and gets her own room in the mansion. Supernatural hijinks ensue!

I loved the illustrations in this, the art is just gorgeous. I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming volumes, because in this, the focus was on introducing the characters, the backstories of each ghost, so the worldbuilding suffered a little for that. I can't wait to learn more about how they came to be at Rycroft, a bit more about how the supernatural works, and their adventures together.

I absolutely loved the concept of this graphic novel: a young, disillusioned (yet still hopeful) college student moves into a haunted mansion. The first volume of this graphic novel features several very different ghostly characters, all with their own backstories and problems.

The thing is, the backstories are the majority of the plot. I felt like we barely got introduced to these characters before the graphic novel had ended.

This one was fun, but I think I’ll need to read more of the series before really making a judgment.

It was a lot of fun reading this graphic novel. When Daphne’s life takes some bad turns, she wonders if moving to Los Angeles was all a big mistake. One night, she finds a mysterious house. She doesn’t know it at the time, but this place will change her life forever. As this story moves along, we get to learn more about the past lives of some of the residents there. If you are a fan of ghosts then this is a graphic novel you might want to read.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this story. I can't wait for vol. 2. The Characters are charming and fun to get to know. The ghost are fun and id love to get into all their backstory. Art style is gorgeous and fun or easy on the eyes.

Lately I have been reading a bunch of fantastic graphic novel and this one definitely tops the list! I really liked the character ad the premise is pretty fun! I would have like a bit more as far as world building but there will more volumes to figure out what is going on! Looking forward to reading more of these when they come out!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!

Endearing. Colorful. Trivial.

My favorite aspect about this comic was the art style. I thought the illustrations fit the story very well, and even the tiniest details made the reading experience all that more enjoyable. The way the ghosts were not only pictured in their very own color scheme, but also had their speech bubbles differentiated was a very smart choice. The artist behind these drawings is obviously very skilled, and was a perfect choice to have illustrate this comic series.

I also loved the inclusion of LGBTQ+ themes, plot lines, and characters. I appreciated the fact that although queerness was a topic explored, it wasn't the main focus of the story or ostracized in any way. It was normalized, and fun, and still remained inclusive.

There were of course a few thinks that I found irksome about this comic. For one, I did not find myself enjoying the main character at all. I did appreciate the fact that the reader is hinted at some much needed character development on her part, as well as the self-awareness she had, but she was still rather unlikable. She was naive, impulsive, and did not think before acting or getting angry. The other characters were easier to fall in love with, but besides a few of the ghosts, they were all rather surface-level and lacked depth and nuance.

One of my favorite things about this story was the focus on backstory. I loved that the author made the choice to begin every issue with a few panels of character backstory, as it added some much needed intrigue and as a reader, I will never not love having the opportunity to learn more about what makes a character tick.

In the end, an enjoyable story that needed a few tweaks here and there but nothing that could not be explored or fixed in future volumes. Once again, a huge thanks to NetGalley for approving me this early review copy!

Graphic novels are usually a hit or miss for me. Here we follow the story of Daphne, who moves across the country to attend the same college as her boyfriend Ronnie. After suffering a blow to the heart, she founds herself lost and trying to find some comfort at twilight. She stumbles on this mysterious mansion, where she finds a group of ghosts that welcome her into their circle and let her live there.

The artwork is truly so gorgeous. I was astounded at the level of detail and how the color schemes affected/changed the moods of the story itself. I would highly reccomend buying yourself a physical copy because every single piece of artwork is so masterfully created that I had my jaw drop at certain points. Not only that, but there's a clear plotline and story happened here (to be continued) that really set us up for what Daphne's dealing with here. It didn't fall flat, I wasn't bored for one second or one page, because there were enough action scenes to keep me intrigued and curious.

Also! There are openly queer characters here, which I deeply appreciated. The side characters were some of the most entertaining parts of the books for me personally, and I think the rest of the world will fall in love with this undead gang as much as I did.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Very enjoyable story about a girl going off to college in LA and running into ghosts. It is a very solid volume 1 and makes you want to continue the story. I did feel like I wanted more and hope that we will be given more information in the next volume. I loved the color choice and the drawing style. For the flashbacks, I was not a fan of that brown/grey tone used. Overall a solid read, looking forward to the next volume...

Wow, this was just a whole whirlwind of a rollercoaster ride! I'm usually not the biggest fan of graphic novels so when I request one, it is mostly because I'm intrigued by the description of the plot and boy, did this deliver! From the gorgeous art style to the plot that had me laughing but also lowkey confused at points, this was just such a fun and quick read!
Definitely would recommend to anyone new to graphic novels because this was a great first installment and I can't wait for the sequel!

Moving to an entirely new city with her boyfriend sounds like happily ever after for Daphne. But reality is rarely filled with happily ever afters. When Daphne moved to L.A. she expected to live the time of her life, not her high school sweetheart breaking her heart. And definitely not a house filled with ghosts who may be her only friends in the strange new city.

Ghosted in L.A. Vol. 1 is a collection of 4 stories revolving around the adventures Daphne gets up to with her new ‘undead’ friends. I really enjoyed the the art-style and the overall illustrations of the graphic novel. The direction the story is going towards is interesting involving some intriguing ghoulish powers that could lead to more high-action scenes. However, the story in this volume was quite boring with all the interesting bits happening towards the end. Not to mention, the pacing was a bit off since the timeline jumped around quite a bit during the present and through glimpses of the past. What this volume set out to do (or what I personally felt while reading this) is to provide a foundation for this series. If the story is going where I think it’s going then I can assume that this series can only go up from here. But for now, this volume was okay, if not a bit cliché at parts. It was a quick and fast read and definitely pick it up if you’re looking for that

Like: It is bright colorful and fun story. At the same time the story could get dark at times. The mysteries that littered the story that make you want to read the rest of the series.

Art: Clothing style of main character was chosen well.

*4.5
Ghosted in LA is my first graphic novel of the year and I am not disappointed!
The storyline follows a girl who just moved to LA for college. She has a rough start and to make things complicated she encounters a manor with ghosts. These ghosts are unique individuals who seem to be stuck in the manor.
I really like the diversity of the characters and the illustrations. The representation in this novel is amazing! I enjoyed the shifts of point of view of each character that gave us a glimpse of the ghost’s past. I do think the main character, Daphne, is a bit obnoxious but I see a potential of character growth. Another aspect I did not like was how fast things happened at the beginning. There was so much going on to a point of it not being plausible. But I do understand it’s a graphic novel and after that, it was enjoyable to read.
Overall, it was a lovely read and I am looking forward to reading more of Daphne and her adventures. Thank you to Netgalley and Boom!Box for the copy in exchange of an honest review.

4 stars ⭐

This was so cute! This graphic novel tells us the story of the new coming of Daphne, a girl that moved to another state to be with her boyfriend only to be broken up with within arrival. The story is really cute, i loved the characters and the situations presented, just amazing!

I'm hoping the second issue comes out soon. I can't wait to read all the backstories of all the other characters and to find out what is really going on at the mansion. I'm a sucker for stories in which you have to discover the secondary character's back stories and this delivered.

The art and character desing is also gorgeous. Highly recommend!♡

Ghosts? Yes, please! New city? Of, course! Angsty, push-over, young adult with no opinions of her own? Hmm, that might take a little more getting used to. Now, don't get me wrong, she isn't as bad as described. Well, maybe just a little. But, there was a good amount in here to keep my interests peaked, and a bit of a change in her character, to keep me wanting more. Even, if it did take several pages in to get me there.

Yes, this novel starts off with Daphne having no backbone, choosing a school all for a guy, and moving miles away to a place where no one else knows her name. Yet, as it goes, there is some sort of growth from her, even when she chooses to live among a bunch of ghosts who seem like they could do some serious damage. But, hey, that's part of the story right? I'm all in at the point, even with the red flags going up everywhere. Because, it's what started making this story more appealing.

Now, Daphne is still not a favorite. I just can't get around to that even if momentarily, but I did want to know more about the ghosts and their untimely demise. There is so much there that I was left wanting to find out, with colorful pasts I can't wait to discover. Now, as far as the ex-boyfriend, and pushy friend, I'm not to sure where I stand with them either, but I do want to hear more. I'll just have to wait for the second volume to see if I can find a nice balance with it all.

I have been on a roll LATELY with reading great graphic novels and this one was no different! While I do think this one suffered a little bit from a lack of world building, I still VERY much enjoyed this and I cannot wait to see where the story goes in the next volumes! Also, bonus points for showcasing so many of my favorite parts of Los Angeles. That is def the thing that I am looking the most forward to getting in future volumes and I just can't! wait!

Daphne moves to L.A. to attend college and be near her boyfriend. She quickly finds herself feeling alienated after she has a fight with her best friend, her boyfriend dumps her and her roommate seemingly hates her. While wandering the city she stumbles upon an apartment building that is occupied by ghosts.

This is a collection of 4 comic books. I hadn't read anything by this author before. The artwork was good and the story has promise. The tale didn't quite pull me in as much as I'd hoped. It came off as very introductory and didn't get us too involved in the story (yet). The story will likely be continued in a 2nd volume as this one didn't wrap things up completely. I am curious to see where this story goes so would checkout follow-up volumes.

The first volume of Ghosted in LA, takes a whole new approach to the sad, lonely coed on her own for the first time and it is definitely worth checking out! Main character Daphne chooses a college across the country in L.A. to stay stay with her high school boyfriend just to find within the first week that she has a horrible roommate, the other people on campus are not lining up to hang out with her and the boyfriend- well, he discovered on the cross-country drive with his dad that he is gay.

it gets interesting when Daphne illegally moves into a mansion off-campus that is occupied by a series of ghosts from many different eras of L.A.'s history. Their back stories and interactions with/about Daphne really add the depth to this book that makes you want to come back and read more.

I am looking forward to see how this story develops. Daphne has a long way to go before she becomes a fully actualized protagonist, but the start to her story makes me look forward to seeing her get there.
