Lady Cassandra gave her heart and herself to her fiancee before their wedding… tragically her fiancee, Timothy was accidentally killed on the way to the wedding. Now, thirteen years later, still loves the husband she lost… and the daughter he gave her.
Always fond of family friend, Lady Cassandra, Captain Devlin is honour bound to defend her at a ball and accidentally announces his engagement to her. Now he has to make that happen…
After successfully convincing a woman, who never wanted to marry to marry him, they along with her daughter venture forward on a grand ocean adventure and Devlin attempt to make his wife fall in love with him.
I really enjoyed the big hearted character of Devin, he was always so understanding and loving… as for Cassandra, I found her extreme devotion to her deceased fiancee a bit much. Thirteen years is a long time, especially when you have a new person in your life who is making you feel again. The daughter Penelope was. Fun addition and played well off of Devlin and Cassandra. Another bright spot was the sea adventure. It was great fun to read about life on the ship and see the characters grow together in this environment.
Her Seafaring Scoundrel by Sophie Barnes is scheduled to release April 28th, 2020.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from author Sophie Barnes through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I had a few issues with this story but overall I liked the book. I didn't like the hero, Devlin forcing the heroine, Cassandra to first marry him and then to love him. Although I understood Cass's reluctance, I felt like at times she was too hard on Devlin and overreacted in certain parts of the book. Once they started their journey the story became interesting and I liked the book towards the end. This is book three in the series and I would recommend reading them in order.
* I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review*

I could not put this book down and read it straight through. Sophie Barnes is great at making the reader feel all of the emotions of her characters. Devlin and Cassandra were perfect together. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance.

This title started out with promise but the “I must be faithful to Timothy” schtick was going to get old really quick.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel was a joy to read. I found I really liked Dev and Cassandra . I loved her daughter. I am hoping she will have a book, but she might not.
It is always nice when you like the two characters , it makes a book run faster.
I do wish that I could have learned more about why both Devlin and Cassandra had such terrible childhoods. I would have liked to read more of the back story, and also I would have enjoyed more of the romance when they had gotten to their destination. I felt like I missed something.
I don't want to give anything away, but it is absolutely worth it to read this, and my only regret is that I did not get to read the first two beforehand.
Thank you Sophie Barnes and NetGalley for letting me read and review this really fun book.

What a great historical romance. The story was well-written and kept me hooked. Good solid charactrers and a wonderful romance.

Another charming historical romance. I don't read these for the historical accuracies, but for the easy-to-escape nature of the books. It is easy to get caught up in the drama (melodrama?) and not have to think too much. I don't mean that as an insult because it totally isn't - sometimes you want nothing more than for a book to entertain you and this most definitely fits the bill with all the right swoon-factor.

Sophie Barnes is quickly becoming one of my favorite historical romance writers. I loved Her Seafaring Scoundrel from start to finish. It was one of those books I picked up planning to read just a few chapters and then ended up glued to the page for 10 chapters. Devlin and Cassandra a great characters who are so so easy to root for. I loved watching their relationship grow and change throughout the novel as they overcame their own demons and learned to move into the future. Devlin immediately embracing Penelope as not just his stepdaughter, but as his daughter made me love him all that much more. I could have done with one more chapter about Devlin coming to the decision that he wanted to stay in England with his family and done without the twist involving Devlin's role in Cassandra's former fiancé's death (it wasn't really necessary and didn't do much for the plot). I can't wait to see what Ms. Barnes comes out with next!

Book 3 in series. I haven't read the first 2. I intend to go back and read.
This book is set at sea.
Second chance at romance after loosing first love.
Scandal brought them together.
Enjoyable read. Loved the epilogue!!
4.25

I enjoyed this book--it's the 3rd in the series. I loved it so much, I went back and read the first 2. It has great characters, an interesting story line, and a little mystery to solve with the HEA... what's not to love. Don't miss this series!

This is a relatively light, lovely read and conclusion to a series. I did not read the first two parts of this series but that didn't stop me from enjoying this one! I will say, however, that while there is seafaring in this book - there isn't really much on the scoundrel front. I would much more classify Devlin as a very good guy.
Cassandra has had a difficult time of it. After anticipating her vows the night before her wedding, in tragic turn of events, her fiance was killed as he was headed to the chapel. Cassandra was devastated to lose the love of her life - but also ended up pregnant. As a result she has all the stigmas of the time as an unwed mother and her daughter is labeled a bastard.
Devlin left England to escape a very negative relationship with his father. Years later, long after his father's death he is still twitchy about spending time in England for more than a couple of weeks at a time. He is definitely an adventurer.
He and Cassandra seem like a missed connection over the years. Devlin's brothers have married Cassandra's best friends . But Cassandra and Devlin have been moving in opposite directions - despite a mutual attraction. Cassandra has also been extremely dedicated to the memory of her fiance - and has vowed to never love again. This make s for a very rocky and complicated road for the couple.
This book is definitely an exercise in communication and moving forward. Both Cassandra and Devlin need help and support with both things. I found this frustrating at times - it felt like neither character could move forward without intervention from outside forces (except for Devlin's decision at the end).
Overall this is a highly enjoyable story with a fun departure from England.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all mine.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given in my own words, for this ARC. I really enjoyed this book. It has very strong characters and such a wonderful tale. Well written. You would like this book too I think.

***Warning*** Spoilers ahead. Don’t read on if you don’t want to discover large details of the plot.
Her Seafaring Scoundrel by Sophie Barnes is the third book in the Crawfords series, which is written about three identical twin brothers and their corresponding love stories. This final installment is the story of Devlin and Cassandra.
Devlin, a spare, is a captain, having run away from an awful father many years ago and continuing his life on the sea several years after his father has passed. Gone for the better part of a year and then home for a month, the story starts out at the end of his latest voyage. His mother, determined to marry him off before he leaves town, has her oldest son (now the Duke) throw a ball, twisting Devlin’s arm into attending and agreeing to dance with a young woman. Devlin doesn’t appreciate being maneuvered but acquiesces to his mother’s wish.
Lady Cassandra attends his family’s ball, being a close friend of Devlin’s brother’s wives. She is a fallen woman as she slept with her betrothed the night before their wedding (her intended died on the way to the wedding the next day) and ended up pregnant. She likes Devlin and his family but is afraid of an attraction she feels for him, as she feels she must remain loyal to her dead fiancé, even though it’s been 13 years.
As Devlin enters, Cassandra almost literally runs into him in a hasty attempt to avoid him. He ends up asking her to dance, since he knows and likes her, and would much rather dance with her than a debutant. She tries to refuse but gives in since her refusal begins to make a scene.
After she departs, Devlin, one of his brothers and one of his shipmate friends step outside to have a drink and get some fresh air. While outside, another lady begins loudly disparaging Cassandra. Without thinking, Devlin comes to her defense and blurts out that he intends to marry her, and the lady should think carefully before speaking poorly of Cassandra. (Of course, Cassandra has no idea about any of this and has no intention of marrying anyone.)
This sets up an odd scene where Cassandra runs off to an orphanage she helps run and Devlin follows her. One minute she is dead set against marrying him and the next she’s agreed to marry him, so long as there is no physical relationship between them. Devlin assumes he can convince her otherwise and agrees. They marry and he decides to take her and her 12-year old daughter, Penelope, with him on his next voyage.
Some of the scenes felt a little odd, but overall, I really enjoyed the story up until this point. I don’t read romances for how likely it would be that these actual events occur, but how enjoyable the story is and the flow/pacing. Once on board, there are some scenes that I really enjoyed, but the timing of things seems off (e.g. soft and then jumping a week or more with no real action to report). After the couple eventually makes love (and, ahem, where was the sex scene? I was quite disappointed at the effort put into this), its determined that Devlin played a small part in the carriage accident that killed Cassandra’s fiancé. There is a major (over)reaction by both characters, but ultimately its swept under the rug. If felt like this could have been an ending point for the story, but it goes on.
Cassandra ends up pregnant and will have a few months back on land before she’s due to give birth. There is some discussion about if Devlin will or won’t stay on land (he is the brother to a Duke and doesn’t really have to work), although he ultimately decided to stay with Cassandra. It wasn’t clear in the end of the book what happened, but the epilogue explained he started his own shipping business that became quite profitable.
I liked the overall story and found the characters endearing, if not a little melodramatic at times. Devlin is an all-around good guy and Cassandra has many fine traits, although I would have preferred less “I’ll-never-be-over-my-dead-fiancé-and-I-only-married-you-to-protect-my-daughter” act. The pacing of the story and the holes felt like deadlines were coming up so it was thrown together in some places. I’ve read this author before and don’t feel this is a common theme in her books, so this is likely a one off. I’d rate this story 3 out of 5 stars, primarily due to the overreactions, pacing and missing details.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel kept me up half the night because I couldn't put it down!
Devlin is a captain of his own ship. He returns home for a few weeks at a time but has no intention of settling on dry land. Cassandra is a ruined single mother who has been cast out by society. The chemistry between them has always been undeniable however, each of them is stubbornly set in their own way. Can fate find a way?
I loved the fresh feeling of this story! The characters had such great chemistry and the love story felt natural and realistic. A fantastic slow-burn! Even though this is book three of The Crawfords series, it is the first book by Sophie Barnes that I have read. I had no issues following the plot as a standalone. If you are looking for a great romance to keep you hooked from the first to the last page. I would highly recommend Her Seafaring Scoundrel. I am planning on picking up the other book in the series that I have missed... that's how much I enjoyed it! I give it 5/5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. Don't judge but when that perfect moment happens, the one you are waiting for, holding your breath for, I was squeal. This book had several of those moments. Cassandra has made a life for herself and her daughter, the daughter that resulted in her being abandoned by her parents. The night before her wedding Cassandra slept with her fiancee but as fate would have it, her died on the way to the church, leaving her pregnant and unwed. Devlin has lived at sea since he was 18 after a fight with his father. Cassandra ends up married and leaving with Devlin on his next journey but only after laying out her demands, no sex not even a kiss. Penelope, Cassandra's daughter was definitely one of those precocious wise beyond her years characters but she was so sweet. I loved devlin so much. He was perfect and so sweet with both Penelope and cassandra. And even though I understood Cassandra's hesitation, I wanted to grab her and shake her. I loved this book and I love this author. Next book please.

This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Barnes and it was excellent. I really enjoyed Dev and Cass’s story. I loved the fact that the heroine had an illegitimate daughter and I loved Dev’s relationship with the little girl. This was just a really enjoyable book. It had a lot of adventure which I really like in my romance novels. I have been having a hard time concentrating on reading with everything that’s been going on in the world and this book was able to hold my concentration. I did think the daughter sounded too old for her age but it didn’t bother me that much. This book is definitely worth a read.

This book was an original in plot and ideas. The heroine is a single mother, daughter if an Earl and has brought disgrace to the family and a illegitimate daughter to raise on her own. Her beloved, Timothy, was killed in a tragic accident the day of their wedding. Cassandra was able to fight off family and friends who wanted her to marry quickly and foist off her child on her prospective groom. But instead, she chose to live with the shame. The hero is a merchant ship captain and has been on the sea's avoiding his father for over a decade. While they are family friends, they see each other very rarely. They marry because the hero was defending her honor. Original, right?? I truly enjoyed the lovely characters and how they worked through their problems.
The book was very well written. The story and plot were unexpected and the epilogue was a surprise. It was very smooth to read with few slow areas. There is action, but no intrigue. The grammar and spelling were on point. The characters were dimensional and real. This book is supposed to be part of a series (the hero is one of a set of triplets) but I read this book first and did not miss the others at all. I will probably read them now based on well written this book is. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars

Captain Devlin Crawford has returned home from his latest ocean journey to see family. He cannot deny that it is nice to see his old friend, Lady Cassandra, again. After she leaves the ball and Devlin hears her name being maligned, he finds himself jumping in to her rescue. That is how he finds himself saying that he and Cassandra are engaged.
Cassandra vowed to never marry. She has loved and lost once, and doesn't want to go through that again. Devlin is persistent and convinces her to at least consider the idea of marriage for her illegitimate daughter's sake. Cassandra agrees under the condition it be a marriage in name only. The problem with that is Cassandra does care for Devlin and resisting him may be harder than she thought.
Author Sophie Barnes CRAWFORDS series continues with HER SEAFARING SCOUNDREL. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. What I thought was going to be a light read turned out to have a lot more depth to it. Devlin and Cassandra enter into a marriage basically to help one another out, but end up finding love along the way. Cassandra has a tougher time of it since she has lost her first love and made a vow to honor him and him alone always. It takes her a while to realize that life goes on and it is okay to love again. Thank goodness for Devlin's persistence and patience. So glad they got their HEA. I give HER SEAFARING SCOUNDREL a 3.5 star rating.

I love this story. I didn't read the first 2 books in the series but it was easy to follow. It seems that characters from previous books make appearance in this book. So readers of her previous books would be excited to see them again.
The main characters are both great. I enjoyed the dialogue and the interactions between them. The little girl is cute too. :) Great characters. :) The ending was terrific too.

This is a very sweet ending to the Crawford brothers trilogy. Devlin and Cass get their happy ending in this story. Lady Cassandra was engaged once upon a time and as the historical romances put it, anticipated her wedding vows. Sadly her fiance died on the way to the alter and she soon learns she's pregnant with their child. Of course, this means she is ruined. Fast forward 12 years and she is raising her daughter and on the edge of society as it were. Devlin is a friend and it is clear they are attracted to each other. He stands up for her honor, after she has left a ball, when he hears her being disparaged, it ends with him declaring they are engaged. Oops. Alls well that ends well of course. I do think the twist with the dead fiancee was unnecessary angst. However, I love the epilogue where we get a look in to their lives 40 years later.
