I loved this book. I live in a small town and our small town gay bar was called, well, nevermind what it was called. I knew every queen there and there was nothing those queens wouldn't do for each other. If one of them was in trouble or needed saving, even from themselves, they would stop at just about nothing to help.

When you announce that you're leaving Indiana to go to Tallahassee, Florida with the love of your life, some guy who promised to make you a superstar... your friends are gonna have questions. I mean it's Tallahassee! But that's only part of the story. More and more unfolds as Tiara's friends try to make sense of this sudden decision and how it will change things for all of them. There's a political note, too, and of course lots of colorful language and music and fun.

While this book DOES lean into typical stereotypes and tropes regarding drag queens, they exist for a reason. They are rooted in truth. The writer doesn't take them into absurdity. It's all believable.

Overall, I liked the book a great deal.

I enjoyed this book. First time reading the author. Will definitely read again. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

the first half felt like it was too much. the monologues, the weird and long intrusive thoughts BB loved to have, the flashbacks that ended so suddenly. i didn't want to keep reading at all.
but i powered through, and i'm happy i did, the second half was great, it felt exactly like i thought it would feel when i read the description and decided to pick it up.
i honestly did not think this book would make me cry, but when the Heroes part came, i couldn't stop myself.
