I won't say I didn't enjoy this, Cameron's storytelling and empathy towards both victim and offenders showed a side of what rural law really is. There were no winners in this case, truly, and that's what sticks out so much about it. The main falter, in a sense, was the reporting on the actual case. It felt as though there were so many beautifully written and fleshed out explanations about the background; going so in depth about the area and local politics, and it was written with such love, that I wish this was a history book instead of the true crime it's advertised as. Cameron's love for Nova Scotia shines through above his discussion of the case, which is disappointing, because he's a fantastic author. The actual discussion of the facts, the case itself, was lackluster. It felt as though it was an anecdote compared to being able to talk about the history of the area, which was far more enjoyable to read about.

A good book with a good true crime story. It got harder to read as you went on though. The more they got into the court cases, the less I felt engaged in the story. I felt that it stepped away from the story of what happened too much by going deeply into detail of the outside parties that were briefly involved

Thank you for the ARC of Blood in the Water. I wanted to check it out as our store is in a small fishing community and I wanted to see if it would be a good title for our store. It is! I think this book will do very well in our store, especially over the holidays. Thank you again for this ARC.
