I really liked this book. It is a promising start to what looks to be a very interesting series. Detective Dove Milson is a well written character. I highly recommend this to everyone who likes crime thrillers. I look forward to the following books.

This was a wild ride!! I enjoyed the story and the pace of this thriller. I love stories with copycat killers and anything involving crime sprees, similarities in murder victims, and a good Detective to follow! The twists totally got me, too! I highly recommend reading this one if you are a thriller lover like me! I need to read the next book, The Ice Daughters, next!

4.5 out of 5 stars - rounded up!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, and the publisher, Joffe Books, for the opportunity to read an advance copy and share my review!

Daisy E. White https://daisywhiteauthor.co.uk/ is the author of nearly a dozen novels. Glass Dolls was published in 2020 and is the first in her Detective Dove Milson series.

Due to scenes of violence, I categorize this novel as R. The primary character is 36-year-old Detective Constable Dove Milson. She has just been reassigned to a Major Crimes Team.

The naked body of a teenage girl has been found near the Devon coast. The corpse has been encased in glass, replicating the methods of convicted serial killer Peter Hayworth. But he is long dead. Milson bears a personal connection to the serial killer. Four years earlier, her niece was one of Hayworth’s victims. Milson herself was seriously injured while pursuing Hayworth.

As she and her new partner, Detective Sargent Steve Parker, begin their investigation, Milson’s other niece, Delta, goes missing. By then, the body of a second naked girl enclosed in glass has been found. The fear is that Delta will become the next Glass Doll. Not only must they find the killer, but they have to find Delta before it is too late.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 8 hours I spent reading this 298-page mystery. It was a very smooth read with a few good plot twists. This is the second novel my Ms. White I have read. The other being Remember Me. She is a consistently good writer. I will be looking for more novels by Ms. White. I do like the chosen cover art. I give this novel a rating of 5 out of 5.

T here were some good twists in this, and the writing was fine, but it just didn’t grab me.

There were some bits about the novel - Dove’s commune upbringing, the relationship issues with her bf Quinn - that seemed underdeveloped. Why have these weird bits if they don’t make a difference for the story?

Toward the last quarter of the book, I was really drawn in and had to tear myself away to get adequate sleep. If you want a fast read in the police procedural realm, this will probably scratch that itch. But it’s probably not a book I’ll be remembering for very long or recommending to many others.

Thank you Joffe Books and NetGalley for this one. A new author for me and I really hope there will be more to come.
If you want to go to sleep, don't start this one before you go to bed as you won't want to put it down. Luckily for me I started on a Friday night so finished it over the weekend.
Well written, great characters and good suspence.
Definitely recommend.

I did like the story but it lacked oomph, Dove Milson a Detective Constable to my mind is flawed and was obvious she came out of her last case very badly and she is at a crime scene that resembles the same as her last case the murder of young girls and their displayed bodies in a glass coffin, so was Peter Hayworth the real killer? and is now dead or is this a copycat killing? Dove also has strong family ties that live nearby and they all have odd names which actually put me off to start with, and they were all bought up in a hippie compound. The concept of the storyline is good but was presented badly and what really was a gripe was that Dove was seen to be given a higher status than her peers and she is only a DC so the story did not marry up well in my view I know it's fiction but please get it right.
I would like to thank Joffe Books for a copy to read and review.

GLASS DOLLS
By D. E. White

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me the book in exchange for my honest review.

Detective Constable Dove Milson is called to the scene of a grizzly murder. The victim, a young woman is encased in glass, an exact replica of the work of a serial killer known as the glass doll murderer, who enjoyed entombing his victims in glass and watching as the life left their bodies. In fact, he would be the prime suspect in this case, but there is a problem. He had already been convicted, and died in prison.
What makes this personal for Dove is the knowledge that her own niece was one of his original victims. When her other niece goes missing, she must race against time to stop her becoming another glass doll.

What can I say about Glass Dolls? Other than of course it pulled me in from that first chapter, shook me about several times along the way, and then slapped me around the face with a great climax. It comes to something when my only complaint about this whole 298 page book is the protagonist’s name, Dove. That’s it. There is simply nothing else I can find as a negative point. And I don’t even have a good reason for disliking it, although my partner said the same thing.

Dove, there’s that name again, has suffered her own tragedies and barely held it together, but now she has to focus on searching for the copycat murderer, while excluding herself from the investigation into her niece’s disappearance. She is supported by her boyfriend Quinn, and her Sergeant Steve above all others, while she is also forced to face her painful past in another police unit, which almost cost her life.

I must admit I really liked ermm Dove, and Steve. They obviously work well together and have built up a good friendship at work. Quinn isn’t in the book so much but you get the sense he’s a good guy.

The story is compelling, and often explosive. I had to cook dinner... Just another chapter. Make the coffee... Hang on until I finish this chapter. Have I fed the cats and dogs? In a minute I’m just in the middle of a chapter.

Overall, I can’t recommend Glass Dolls enough, hence the five stars, and hope everyone gets as much satisfaction from reading it.

Well written thriller! I have that author several times.

The storyline flows, even though I found the second half of the book more interesting and captivating.

I don't know why but I found this book really hard to get into for the first half of the book so it took me a lot longer to read than normal. Once I got to the second half though I started to enjoy it alot more. Im not sure what it was about the book that put me off to begin with but persevere with it. It's worth it in the end.
