This really could have been a six hour book instead of an eight hour book. I don't mind length, but when it comes at the cost of nearly an entire page detailing the benefits of assorted tampon varieties...eh...

Karin Slaughter's novel The Silent Wife, once again illuminates her writing prowess. This is how it is done. Plain and simple. Ms. Slaughter gets it and you should too. With twenty novels to her credit she weaves a tale that will grab you in the beginning and not let you go. As a fellow native Atlantan I especially enjoy her descriptions of the city and the surrounding areas.

Faithful readers know what to expect, but newbies need be forewarned, of graphic violence and no holds barred details, of the ruthless killer Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell must track down before he kills again.

Will and Faith are assigned to investigate the murder of an inmate in prison, maybe gang related, maybe not. Another prisoner who was in for an unrelated murder wants to make a deal. He says he was falsely convicted of killing a victim by dirty cops and knows for certain the killer is still on the loose and killing other women.

The story flashes back and forth from the present day to eight years prior when the serial killer had first struck. He had expertly disguised his murderous work to resemble an accident. Had it not been for the sleazy inmate's claim of being falsely accused of the rape and murder of one of the victims, the trail may well have gone cold.

Will and Faith check into his claims and things get ugly. If you are in to mystery/thriller/suspense, Karin Slaughter has once again served up a tasty morsel for you to devour. Five stars. She is at the top of her game.

I had given myself a long hiatus to the mystery/thriller genre. At the time of this writing we are going through the coronavirus pandemic. I felt like returning to some of my reading roots, maybe for some sense normalcy in this very abnormal time. Some of the authors I used to read I find don't resonate with me anymore, some I still enjoy, and this author is a new one for me. I am pleased to say that I will be reading more of her books. I like the balance of moving a story forward with intelligence as well as giving the characters back stories and relationships.

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read this book for an honest review. I absolutely love Karin Slaughter and the Will Trent series. I have read them all. This one is by far my favorite. I like how the author brings us back to Jeffrey Toliver while still in the present with Will. It was a great suspense with lots of twists and turns that made the book very hard to put down. This is a must read!!

3.9 stars

I’m torn on this book. It was gritty and dark as Sara, Will, Faith and the rest of the GBI hunt for a serial rapist and killer. As brutal as the attacks and aftermath were on the women, I did appreciate that the author wasn’t trying to sugarcoat anything. In the afterward she wrote about her being frank and writing candidly about violence against women and the aftermath for the survivors and their families.

Enough with the Sara/Jeffery focus. The men, and Sara half the time, keep putting the memory of Jeffery on a pedestal. He was a cheating ass who done Sara wrong. It’s been eight years, Will is awesome. Enough. That grated on my nerves through the book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an copy in exchange for an honest review.

Technically, I finished the book today (May 1st) because I consumed this, feasting on Slaughter's glorious and chilling creation, until 1:30am. Karin really does slaughter me with her ability to produce mystery after mystery that creates"chicken skin" as it pulsates with a riveting voice that somersaults on the page. This is the 10th book in the series, and although it is perfectly acceptable as a stand alone, there is much to be gained from reading from her first book. I knew the characters' previous struggles, rounding out their personalities and increasing my empathy for the situations they were in. For those who have not read her books, let me warn you that they can be very graphic and disturbing in their explicitness but definitely not gratuitous. In this particular book, Sara and Will are involved in investigating serial murders and rapes under the most gruesome circumstances. The novel intersperses chapters from Sara's life with her previous husband to the present day. The flow between the chapters proceeds smoothly and is necessary to reveal the true identity of the killer. You can read from the blurb the meat of the book, but just know that you will be in for a good deal of sleepless nights while you are glued to the pages.

The book was such a fast, violent, engrossing read! I love the Will Trent and Grant County series. This story gives some backstory between Sara and Jeffrey, with a really interesting storyline. It was pretty violent, but that's expected with her series - I like the details of the life of a coroner and investigator. Her level of detail makes me feel like I belong on the squad!

What can I say. First of all this author is one of my favorites. I loved this book. I did figure out who the bad guy was! I think Will is one of my favorite fictional characters. So good. Thank you and thank goodness there will be more!

Brilliantly conceived story about a psychopath and one that is a complete one. A fiend that preys upon young women, capturing them, torturing them and than raping their bodies after he has killed them. The author has used Will Trent, a detective with a police department in The Atlanta Georgia area, and his girlfriend Doctor Sara Linton who is the medical examiner for the same police force. This is the 10th book featuring the two in the series, and I must comment that I like Ms Slaughter's treatment of them. They are normal police personnel, not super-beings pulling solutions miraculously out of the air. Both are dedicated to solving cases and bringing criminals to justice by slowly, but surely obtaining evidence in solving the crime.
In the book's opening Will is visiting a prison to interview a prisoner when he is pulled into talking to another man that claims he is innocent of a murder of a young woman and should not be jailed. Will in thinking over what the second man told him brings the situation to his department head and they decide to look into the matter. Their investigations unearth a series of murders in an area around Atlanta going back several years. Karin Slaughter describes what has happened to the girls in great detail and it is not light reading. The descriptions describe the torture inflicted on them and the reader needs to understand that it is not gratuitous horror but the author's need to bring out what women can go through when sick men decide to "punish" them. In an afterward Ms Slaughter does indicate that it was one of her intentions to bring out this situation.
Will and Sara's group begin unearthing similar crimes that occurred in areas to the north of Atlanta and judicious study uncovers similar physical damages to the women inflicted by the murderer and which betray a knowledge of anatomy. Sara rereads accounts of the previous murders and skillfully sets up a profile of the killer. In two cases the victim has survived but will never completely recover mentally. Ms Slaughter describes the attempts to interview them, with both Will and Sara devastated by the accounts. The book is absolutely one that must be finished in one mesmerizing period after which some relaxation is necessary and a time out awaiting the author's next novel.

The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter. Another Will Trent mystery/thriller. Kind of bittersweet to see Jeffrey (albeit in flashbacks) again. The serial killer theme is solid, a bit of a surprise as to the guilty party but well brought together between the two time frames. Graphic details the in practices of postmortems and morticians but morbidly compelling in some ways.
Will and Sara's relationship hits a rough patch nonetheless …...
Another winner for Ms. Slaughter. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

A prison riot leads to the death of an inmate and brings in the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to examine the scene. While the team is at the prison they get word that one of the inmates wants to exchange information. The inmate will give specifics about the murder and a phone smuggling ring, if the GBI investigates a murder that he was blamed for. Things get intense when investigators hear that the inmate is accusing a beloved former police chief of setting him up.
Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite authors, and she doesn’t disappoint with this book being a page turning thrilling ride. I love the characters, the love stories, the gritty dark details, and the beginning, the middle, and the end.
Content Warning: Graphic details about rape and murder

I am a huge Karin Slaughter fan, and I had high expectations for this book. I'm happy to report that this book exceeded my expectations. Slaughter has managed to combine gruesome crimes, romance, and humor in a neat little package with this next installment of the Will Trent series. And never fear, Grant County fans--- this one also has brought back some of those characters in this story. I love that Slaughter's stories are never feel stale or recycled, and that her characters continue to grow and. change. This is especially evident in this novel. Overall, I loved it, and now I'm sad that I have that much longer to wait for another book from Slaughter.

And finally, the shout out to Regina Morrow was absolutely on point. That SVH book was probably more effective at keeping kids off drugs than any DARE program. That reference in the book made me love Faith so much more.

I really liked the main story here, the attacks and trying to figure out who did it. I’m not too into the details of Sara and Will’s relationship. I just find them irritating in that regard and I kind of skim over those parts. But I did like the story. Parts were super gruesome which I both loved and hated at the same time. Ugh I’m shuddering just thinking about them. Well done!!

As a long-time avid reader of psychological thrillers and mysteries, and an Atlanta resident for 25 years, I am embarrassed to admit that this is the first Karin Slaughter book that I have read. No excuses except that as a school librarian, I mostly read children's books. The Silent Wife is the kind of read that I could not put down, reading late into the night and into the early morning hours to watch the mysteries be solved.

I began reading, not knowing that this is book 10 in Slaughter's Will Trent series. Since the chapters alternate between past and present events, I quickly suspected that the main characters had a history unknown to me. I resisted the librarian temptation to do some research before reading further. One of the hallmarks of a truly great story is that it can stand alone, while still being an integral piece of a continuing saga of people known by many readers.

GBI Investigator Will Trent encounters a prisoner who continues to proclaim his innocence for a murder from several years before. He offers proof to Will who then enlists the assistance of Sara Linton, medical examiner, to solve what turns out to be serial rapes and murders. Ms Slaughter's characters are fully developed throughout the story as she methodically describes graphic scenes of brutal attacks on a series of women.

This book is a fast-paced read. It will keep the reader racing through the chapters to discover how the killer is found, through the expertise and persistence of characters that are real and relatable. Though this is my first Karin Slaughter read, it will not be my last.
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. #TheSilentWife #NetGalley

I LOVE Karin Slaughter and The Silent Wife did not disappoint. The newest book in the Will Trent series brings together the present and the past. I loved the Grant County series as well, so I enjoyed the chapters written in the past that included Jeffrey. If you've never read Slaughter before, her books are very graphic and dark and this book is no exception. I'm always looking forward to her next read! Highly recommend!

North Georgia can say they are many sweet small towns in the mountains to draw visitors to come shop in their little stores with something for everyone, and with great scenery but my favorite is the author who is from these small towns. She has most of her books describing north Georgia and I feel like I am right there with the characters. They are Will, Sara, Jeffery and several more who are with different branches of law enforcement who are usually tracking down a killer. Please stop reading here is you don't want details of the story!
This latest book starts with a murder in the woods of a woman who is tied up and given a drug to party paralyze her so the killer can come back many times and continue to hurt her before finally letting her die from the hell she has been thru. And what's worse is there are more women to die. This is definitely a serial killer of the worst kind. But her books always have people you come to love and hate because they are with their own personalities and it gets under your skin so if your like me I just can't wait to see the next episode of their lives. I love that I got to read this book and thank you publisher and NetGalley!!

Ooh boy. This newest book by a wonderful author is about a really difficult but important subject - rape and extreme violence against women. Spoiler and trigger alert: If it hadn't been for the familiar characters leading and pulling the narrative and trying to find and stop the perpetrator/s, I don't think I could have kept reading. The violence and trauma these fictional characters suffered was so real that it hurt. I had to keep putting the book down and taking a break.

Kudos to the real people who work to stop these insane acts, to those that work put damaged women back together physically and spiritually, but mostly kudos to anyone who claws their way back to life after being attacked and violated.

I have been a faithful Karin Slaughter reader since her first book (19 years ago!!). She get's better with every new book. Although some of the details in THE SILENT WIFE were a bit too graphic for me, this was an amazing story. I loved how the timeline jumped back and forth from past to present and was absolutely shocked to find out "whodunnit"!! Cannot wait to recommend this book! Amazing.

I'm almost 2 weeks in to coronavirus social isolation and very sadly haven't been able to find a book that will drown out the anxiety and capture my attention this whole time. I actually had the thought "I wish Karin Slaughter had a new book." And then I signed into NetGalley and The Silent Wife was there!!! I seriously almost cried from happiness. And then tore through it in 2 days. The Silent Wife is the latest installment of the Will Trent series. This book flashes back in time so we get to see some of our old favorite characters from the Grant County series as well. Ten books into this series and it is still going strong. The characters are still likable, the story was unexpected, and I didn't know it was possible but Slaughter may have one upped herself with the horrific, disturbing crimes in this one.
