I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I really liked this quick summer read about a former high school sweetheart who pretends to be a couple for the summer.

Sweetwater Springs has been a bit of a hit or miss for me. I enjoyed Seasons of Joy last month and thought I would backtrack and try Sunshine on Silver Lake, unfortunately I did not feel as invested in the characters as I had hoped. I may try this one again later, when I’m in more of a contemporary mood. but for now it’s a DNF

Back on my Sweetwater Springs train! Thx Forever Pub for sending me a copy of Sunshine on Silver Lake and thus fueling my obsession with this series (which started at around this time last year!). I loved Emma (namesake!) and Jack's story, the second chance and growth of each. I liked how issues like breast cancer awareness and alcoholism were discussed and they were tied to personal issues both main characters needed to overcome. Definitely don't want to give away any spoilers but this was a sweet read, I recommend it!

Another amazing read by one of my favorite authors ever! If you love a sweet and clean romance filled with great characters and a small town I love this is a must read! Can't wait to read what's next!

This is book number 5 in the Sweetwater Springs series. It can be read a standalone, but would be better enjoyed as part of the series. This book is a small town romance, which I love! We have a cafe owner and a local park ranger as the main characters. This book is full of romance and characters who have great chemistry! Overall, I thought this was a great read, and I would recommend it to romance readers!

Sunshine on Silver Lake by Annie Rains is the 5th book in the Sweetwater Springs romance series, and my first book by this author. This book is a sweet second chance romance between Emma and Jack who dated briefly in high school. This book was easy to read and perfect for an escape from weather or the pandemic. I will be reading more books by this author. I recommend this book if you enjoy sweet second chance romances.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Emma is not very excited about her birthday and ends up running away from her friends who want to celebrate with her. She just can't escape Jack, a friend and crush from school days and also the first guy to break her heart. Trying to help his friend to help his sister, she ends up accepting to pretend to be his girlfriend and this rapprochement can rekindle the flame of love between them two.

Each one fights their own battle and fights their demons but this time they won't have to do it alone but Jack still needs to convince Emma that their love is worth the battle.

With a light writing, the writer presents a couple who realizing all the strength they have and everything tying up a beautiful love story.

3,5/5 stars

This is a cute romance between coffee shop owner Emma and her friend Jack, who was almost once more than. just a friend. However, Jack stood Emma up for her prom, and things have never happened for them since. Jack’s sister is going into rehab, and to give her hope for her future, and due to a misunderstanding on the status of their relationship, Jack and Emma find themselves pretending to date for the summer.

There were a few things in this story that just didn’t “click” with me - Emma’s avoidance of her annual appointments, her lack of actual planning of the run in memory of her mother, etc.

This one was okay, but not a book that would keep me wanting to read more in the series.

This is book 5 in the Sweetwater Springs series. It can be read as a stand alone, I've read several but not all the books in the series. Emma is planning a fund raising run in Sweetwater National Park. Her mother died of breast cancer and was planning the event when she died so Emma wants to hold the run in her mom's honor. Jack is the Forest Ranger at the park and she needs his help, it doesn't matter they were an item in high school or that he broke her heart. Jack needs a favor in return so he agrees to help. A nice predictable romance that makes you smile. Also good info on genetic testing and cancer. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am a huge Annie Rains fan, but this one fell flat for me. I never really liked the heroine (I found her rather annoying, to be honest) and the chemistry between her and the hero never jumped off the page. It was well-written, but I just didn’t feel that spark I’ve felt with all her other novels.

Emma is now thirty, the same age her mother was when she died of cancer. After going through the box her mother's best friend sends her on her birthday, Emma decides to check off one of the items on her mother's bucket list. To do that she need help from her high school crush turned best friend Jack, who needs Emma to help him give his nephew the summer of his life while his mom's in recovery. Jack also needs Emma to pretend to be his girlfriend..

Good fun premise that just missed the mark of being truly touching yet funny. I wasn't bored but it wasn't a story that'll stick with me for long.

Sweetwater Springs, North Carolina the charming town you'll want to visit and
stay once you get there.
Sweet romance about second chances that will give you that warm fuzzy feeling.
I've read other books in this series and all are not to be missed. You'll want to revisit the characters that you'll fall in love with. The story will speak to your heart!
Fun Picnic Pimento Cheese Sandwich recipe included along with a short bonus story at the back of the book by Hope Ramsay,

Annie Rains is truly a storyteller. Time and again, she brings us wonderful small town contemporary romances. But don't let the pretty landscape deter, because in addition to the feel-good love story and the "sweet" designation, there are some real conflicts occurring in this book. The author touches on some topics that keep the readers feet on the ground. I highly recommend.

I did not know how this book was going to turn out with some of the issues that I had read about. The author did a good job though in working everything out and doing it still with everything being light and not as depressing as it could have been.
Emma’s struggle is first with her thirty-birthday arriving which is also the time which her mother passed away. Telling her friends one thing in order to be alone it is the guy who stood her up at their senior prom, Jack who shows up at her door not wanting her to be alone for her birthday.
Jack wants to be with her now must convince her first of a relationship. He does this by asking her to be his fake girlfriend for the summer. When does eventually agree and we all know how these stories will end up, but here it is done with little differences and they each begin to deal with the past. I found this to be a good book with good characters.

Cute, quick read. Great for fans of small town romance. I really enjoyed the secondary characters and the setting, so I’ll definitely check out previous books in this serious. Am discovering I am not a fan of second chance romance however. I just can’t get into it. Trigger warnings for cancer references and a mom who had passed sometime earlier. As well as a main character putting off her checkup. I wasn’t expecting this element.

Emma is getting to the age that her mother died from cancer and now worried about her own health. When she receives a life list from her mother planning a 5k was on the list and wants to do this one wish her mother never got to do. Jack is her long time friend who is taking care of his nephew for the summer and somehow he ropes Emma into a fake relationship. Things get a bit complicated though when they realize their feelings are more then just friendship.

If you love friends to lovers romances you'll like this book. I loved getting to know both characters, their past and what they were dealing with currently. Jack and his family deal with addiction differently but they are doing what they can. Emma is dealing with the fact that she'll need to take the test to see if her genetics markers make her a candidate for possible cancer like her mother and grandmother before her. I loved the whole fake relationship, clearly they had a bit of a romantic past and feelings clearly haven't went away and they were fighting that attraction. You just can't help but root for the characters to get together and work things out. Overall this was a pretty enjoyable book and I recommend you lovely readers to check out this book.

Sunshine on Silver Lake was a perfect summer time read. I laughed and cried throughout the book. I really liked the two main characters, Emma and Jack. They both had such endearing personalities. You couldn’t help but love them.
This is the type of romance I like to read. Annie Rains has a true gift in her writing style that gives you warm, fuzzy feelings and puts a smile on your face.
If you are looking for the perfect summer book to read, this should be the book you pick up!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author, Annie Rains, for the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Trope: Friends to Lovers
Steam level: 🔥

Annie & Jack may be fake dating, and then take their relationship up a notch but we don't read any of the steamy details.

I hadn't read an Annie Rains title before, and some of the ladies in my rom com bookclub had praised her books so I was thrilled to be approved for her newest title, Sunshine on Silver Lakes on Netgalley.

Even though this book is part of a series (this is actually book 5 in the Sweetwater Springs collection) it was a great standalone book as well. I thought it had great characters with plenty of detail and backstory, that came full circle in an enjoyable way. The supporting characters added to the story, and were fun to get to know in this heartwarming romance.
