A marriage of convenience designed to bring two packs together. But can an old dog be taught new tricks? Tala is an alpha in her own right as is Marrok they are going to have to work together to make this peace and their mating work. I LOVED Tala. She is a kick butt and take names kinda gal. This is an incredibly sweet tale and though it is part of a series it can be read standalone.

Shift out of luck is the story of Tala and Marrok. They are two alphas of feuding packs who have had enough. They are to be mates and join the packs. Simple right? Two alphas in the same room can be difficult but mates? Well Tala is experiencing it all. She may not disagree with Marroks decisions but it isn’t good for her leadership.

Marrok is falling for Tala and can’t seem to keep his hands off. But her pack is turning on her and challenging for the alpha spot, on top of that every time she shifts her wolf wants to tear apart Marrok. What could go wrong?

These two alphas have to figure out their way not only in their mating and running both packs not just one. They also need to fight for their lives to survive.

I enjoyed it a lot and can’t wait for the next book!!!!!

Shift Out of Luck is the second book in the Brimstone Inc. series and tells the story of Tala and Marrok. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Shift Out of Luck was such a good and fast-paced sequel, I enjoyed every bit of it! It was so nice to finally read some more about Tala and Marrok. You read a few things about them in the first book in the series, and it was so nice that we got their story too!

Tala and Marrok are both alphas which makes it a bit hard for them to be in a relationship. I think that Tala is such an amazing and empowering character. What I also loved about this book was that Abigail Owen wrote about the struggle of being a female alpha, Tala gets questioned a lot and people only see Marrok as an alpha. I also really loved Marrok because he puts a lot of effort in his relationship with Tala and he’s just so cute.

Shift Out of Luck was another amazing book by Abigail Owen and I didn’t expect anything else! She’s an amazing author and I love the worlds she’s created! I’m so excited to read more books set in the Brimstone Inc. series and I hope we’ll get a book about Dahlia!

Marrok and Tala are in a tricky spot. The need to bring both of their wolf packs together after years of fighting is an uphill battle. Pack members trying to undermine their authority and internal fighting between the two are making everyday difficult.

I liked reading about the dynamic between Marrok and Tala. They are both alpha by nature where one was given based on bloodline the other had to fight to earn that right. Watching these two try and figure everything out was both wonderful and hard to watch.

The other part that I really liked was Tala trying to figure out what was wrong with her wolf. With everything going on, having her wolf act the way it does is not only off putting but hard to understand. Once it's reveled, you can understand why.

This is Tala and Marrok's story. They are two alpha shifters and they married to bound their groups.
They were enemies now they are lovers AND enemies.
This is a short story. Tala is basically more like the man in the narrative but I did not feel like she loved him.
Marrok was more calm and mature.

The premise for this book is so exciting: Two alphas of their packs stuck in fued where mating each other could fix things. It was exciting to see if Tala and Marrok could successfully merge their clans and share the power. Both characters were written very well, full of depth and a great balance to each other. They both had calm, cool sides to them but Tala had a passionate and tough side that emerges at just the right times. The push / pull of their romance built tension and kept me engaged. The story pulled me in and flowed well. Overall, great read!

We met Marrik and Tala, albeit briefly, in the first Brimstone Inc book The Demigod Complex. Shift out of Luck starts with the arranged mating of Tala and Marrik and then follows their attempts to unify their packs.
In some ways, this story is quite unusual, as Tala is already an alpha in her own right, she knows what she is capable of. This isn't a story about her finding her place, but rather about Marrik accepting her as an equal and of them finding a way to work alongside one another.
I liked the interaction between Marrik and Tala, as they did their best to work the new situation out. I also really liked what a strong character Tala was. It was clear that although they were going to be able to work together in the future, they weren't always going to see eye to eye.
This was a fairly short story, but still an enjoyable read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Shift Out of Luck by Abigail Owen is the second book in her Brimstone Inc series. I didn't read the first book and was able to read as a stand alone without problems. I love the authors two Dragon series a lot and while I also love wolf pack romance I kept thinking one of the Dragons was going to show up in the story but it was a bit short and I wanted much more of Tala and Marrok love story.

Tala Canis is the Alpha female of her wolf pack who hopes that the marriage of Banes/Canis packs will lead to a stronger pack and that they can get along without killing each other. Sounds easy right ? If you remember Romeo and Juliet wasn't a walk in the park so think two very STRONG Alphas add in a challenge with one of the elders of Tala's pack and you have a pretty good story. Now she needs to convince her wolf that Marrok is her mate and not enemy.

Marrok Banes agreed to using a matchmaker to find his mate and of course his wolf thinks it's a wonderful idea because Tala is beautiful and a strong Alpha all rolled into one. But can they get along and figure out how to lead together and become a strong wolf pack. Convincing the elders of both packs might take a lot of patience and time and he knows that he'll stand by Tala through everything including not interfering when a challenge is issued. He'll find that alone is very, very hard but he knows that Tala needs him to do this so they can become true mates.

This book is filled with turmoil, heat and betrayal. Tala is alpha and very capable of protecting herself and her pack. A marriage of convenience muddies the water but the route to resolution is fraught with obstacles. I enjoyed this book but feel it's best read after prior books for the complete story.

Fun read. Dominating alphas. Even as the second book in the series can be read as a stand alone. Quick fast paced book.

I would like to thank Entangled Publishing for sending me an #ARC for Shift Out of Luck by Abigail Owen, via #NetGalley , in exchange for a fair and honest review. Shift Out of Luck is the second novella in the the Brimstone Inc. series. I didn't realize this was a book in a series when I got it, so I was hesitant to read it. The books have very little to do with each other though. In Shift Out of Luck, the story centers around two Alpha wolves, Tala and Marrok, who are married for convenience, and bring their two feuding packs together.

I wasn't personally crazy over the story. It wasn't bad really. Just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't until the last 25% of the book did I find it interesting. Despite the story not being the best, the story is unique in it's genre, which is rare to come across these days, and the story had a nice flow throughout.

The characters were generally okay. Most supernatural novels I have read, weres, or in this case, wolf shifters, are generally more human than beast, and live among humans. It was different to encounter characters that seemed more animal, and caved in to their beasts more easily, and they lived in their own communities. I liked Marrok, because while still an Alpha, he was always caring, and kind. It was hard for me to like Tala. I liked her the night of their mating ceremony, and 6 months afterward, when she claims Marrok and secures their bond. I love a kick ass female character ... and no doubt Tala is kick ass. But she isn't very vulnerable, and easy to anger, which was hard to like in the end.

In the end, it was an okay, very short read (I had it done in a few hours). I am not fully convinced if I will read the first book and continue with the series though. The writing is well done. If you like supernatural romances, you will like this one, but I am hesitant to say love it, mostly because the female lead is very hard to like. If she was a little softer, I think I would have liked it more.

Shift Out of Luck is an exciting and exhilarating journey of finding love admist immense chaos and deceit. Nothing is easy when life seems stacked against you at every turn. The best you can hope for is an occasional moment of peace and clarity. This story will guide you through such a time with two characters who are desperately doing what they think is best for their people. Above all, they want to give, but at the same time they need to realize that they need to take into themselves what they need to build their strength and resolve to help those around them.

Marrok acknowledges the harsh past of this clan, and he longs to bring them a better future filled with hope and possibilities. There is only one sure way to secure a future of peace for his people, and to do that he must put his own feelings aside. Tala longs for a better way to steer her people into the future. Their way of dealing with circumstances is no longer working which now requires her to make sacrifices in order to improve things. She must put her heart aside and walk a path she never imagined. When a highly improbable business deal brings Marrok and Tala together, they get much more then they ever bargained for. As tensions rise, Tala must decide what she will risk in order to force the hand of Fate. Can Tala make this deal solve the issues for her people, or will she lose what she never knew she needed to a stubborn determination that only serves to limit life's generous gifts?

I had no idea of what to expect from Marrok and Tala, and what I found left me in awe. They are two people who unconditionally love their people, and a as a result find themsevles in an impossible situation. Their need to make the future better propel them into something neither is prepared for in any. They stumble and pick themselves back up each time, but each time things shift between them. Watching these two try to figure out what is growing between then left me giggling at times and annoyed at others. It is surprising what they couldn't see that was right in front of them, but honestly the both had many things to overcome along the way. Their journey is one of growth, learning, and above all an unwavering strength. What a fabulous story!!

Abigail Owens has once again proved just how incredible this new series is with this fantastic book! Her first book hooked me in no time, and this one made me see her exquisite creativity and left me in awe wanting so much more. I enjoyed this story more then I can express, and I honestly can't wait to see where this series goes next. Owens is a fabulous author, and I am addicted to her heart and marvelous talent!

First I want to start this review off with my overall opinion. I devoured this book in one sitting. I found myself drawn to the characters, storyline and overall feeling I had when reading the book.

I did not realize this was the second book in a series, however, when reading the book I didn't really need any back story to the first book to understand what was going on and get consumed entirely.

This book starts off with Marrok and Tala's wedding/mating ceremony. It starts off hot and steamy from the prologue. Once the ceremony is over you jump forward in time slightly but you start getting each others views on their marriage, arrangement and everything that encompasses the pack.

Marrok and Tala are both Alpha's from two opposing packs. They made this alliance in order to help their packs avoid any further bloodshed and try to live in peace. With having two Alpha's in a relationship you can definitely guess that there will be a lot of butting heads and arguments at first. This is a rocky transition for any character and it will definitely take some work and adjustments on both of their ends.

I really was intrigued that the roles simply reversed in this storyline. You have Marrok who is the male Alpha of his pack and typically he's the one with the fighting skill and masculine features. Then you have Tala who is a female Alpha and you would feel she would be more on the empathetic/sympathetic side. However, this is not the case. Marrok seems more of the sympathetic type but still able to let his dominance pour out over his pack. Tala definitely has the fighting skills and the more hot headed trait. She had to fight for her position where as Marrok inherited his.

Tala ends up in a few fights and she's the one fighting other male shifters where as Marrok sits back and can't do anything about it. It was definitely a new take on the Alpha roles in a relationship and definitely showed a female hero archtype.

Definitely pick this book up if you are wanting a great read to lost yourself in. Marrok and Tala definitely have the steam and the story will keep you invested.

Pretty good shifter romance. Didn't have as much plot as the one in the series. But if you love werewolf shifters and mating bonds then this is for you.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I was so excited to see that we finally get the story behind Tala and Marrock's mating after reading about them in the first book with Castor and Leia!

Tala and Marrock were as described a modern day Romeo and Juliet but good news - they get their HEA and don't die in the end!

They really had a huge job to bring their two packs together when they hated each other and Tala's former alpha killed Marrock's father. Add into this difficult situation, Tala's wolf keeps attacking Marrock's wolf and you wonder if they will ever get this resolved and get their HEA.

Lots of drama and intrigue as Tala keeps getting challenged and having to fight to retain her apha status while keeping Marrock from trying to protect her.

Fun series and loking forward to the next book!

Book 2 of Brimstone Inc is Tala and Marroks story. We met them at their wedding in book 1. It’s an arranged marriage between two alphas. Tala as a female alpha finds herself having to prove herself over and over every day to her own pack and now her own mate is undermining her. Marrock is not used to sharing leadership but he finds himself falling in love with his mate and struggles to both protect her from danger within her own pack and respect that she can take care of herself.

I really enjoyed book 2 and liked both Tala and Marrock. This book was sexy, sweet and had just enough action to be exciting.
