I enjoyed this book, different to my usual choice but a nice and easy read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

I have mixed feelings about this book, that's not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did… I found it very much on par with the other Gill book I read last year ‘The Neighbours’.

It tackles some difficult subjects throughout the whole of the book which really kept me gripped, because without these it would have been a pretty boring read. The Characters are well described and can really build an image of them and their lives. However, I think, maybe the reason I didn’t connect with the sisters is because fortunately I haven’t experienced any of the issues both Laura and Jess go through.

Even though the chapters were short and snappy, I felt the book was a little too long - Maybe 50 pages or so.

I would recommend Nicola Gill books to anyone that is looking for a ‘breather’ book between their usual thrillers/crime/horror books, they are easy reading and not all lovey dovey/usual romcom books which is nice for a change.

This book was an alright read for me. It tells the story of two sisters, who have always been against each other, dealing with the passing of their mother. I was really able to sympathize with both sisters, although at times I felt it difficult to read about Laura without being frustrated. I did feel, however, that this book was much longer than it needed to be, and could have been told without much of the extras that were there.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This was an entertaining story (even though it centered around a funeral) about 2 sisters at odds with each other. Can you say sibling rivalry? If you have siblings you will probably be able to relate. If you have family drama, you will definitely be able to relate. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, this was a good read and I enjoyed reading about the relationship of laura and jess, however, it felt longer than it needed to be.

Would I still recommend it, yes. I still think it is worth checking out because of the fresh take on sisterhood.

3 stars.

A sweet and lovely story with some poignant and heart breaking moments. I really enjoyed the MC's as they were very funny and relatable.
A great read.

I really enjoyed this book! I liked how this book tells the story of family life of Laura. Laura and jess losses their mother and it explains how Laura is having trouble grieving for her mother. I like that it shows not everyone grieves the same and it was different. Laura is struggling with life which I also like in the story. This story does not portray her life as perfect and the struggles which many people face. I felt that mine and Laura's lives are similar because I struggle with getting things done which some people can not understand. I like that she is a hard worker that overcomes her struggles. I also liked how it tells the story of Laura and her sister Jess' relationship. Laura seemed to always compare her life with her sister's life. Their relationship has its difficulties but it was strengthened throughout the story. Loved the storyline and the characters and the comical side of the story. I would recommend this book to fiction and comedy book lovers.

Laura and Jessica could not be more different as sisters. Jessica is a strong A-type personality who is always in control of her life. She has the perfect job, the perfect kids, the perfect husband, and the perfect home. Laura is her polar opposite who procrastinates on everything, always intends to clean the house, and does more 'thinking about life and everything than actually doing it. When the sisters' mother dies of cancer, the two are forced together to deal with their mother's estate and effects. Many truths and frustrations finally come out, and the sisters' relationship finally mends and becomes stronger.

The story its told from Laura's perspective, and it is very easy to be sympathetic with her as she wants so hard to better herself, but does not have the support or knowledge of how to begin. We see Laura's rocky relationship with her mother, the constant (negative) comparisons to her sister, and the unresolved grief from her father's death 25 years prior. After her mother's death, Laura's life continues to fall apart: her relationship with her partner, her child's troubles at school, and her job. It took this, though, for Laura to "bottom out" and find the way to move forward.

I would have liked to have seen this story told by both Laura and Jessica's perspectives instead of using Laura as the sole narrator. The flashbacks on Laura's part could have been told by Jessica as she struggles to find a way to help Laura. All in all, though, decent story of family, support systems, and moving yourself forward.

Not my favorite. I think comparing it to Fleabag in the synopsis sets unrealistic expectations too. This book felt very repetitious and not too much actually happened by the end of it. I also didn’t really like the main character.

Growing up with a sister myself, I love books about family relationships as I think we are all so different and have our own little quirks that make every family a totally different microclimate. I loved this read, it was moving and full of humour, a perfect distraction from the world for a while!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance digital copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fairly enjoyable read about the dynamics of two sisters. I found it to be quite a busy read with lots going on but did not expect the twist.
Many thanks to both the author & net galley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read a free advance copy of this book. Unfortunately I hadn't found time during the year to read this book, and so I will be picking up a paid copy in 2021 to support the author instead as an apology.

This books follows two sisters, whom have always had a somewhat complicated relationship. Laura and Jess have never been on the best of terms, due in part to their mother loving one of them way more than the other.
Throughout this novel, we are following Laura and Jess as adults once their mother passes away and has basically forced the two to come together again.

I tried multiple times to get through this book. I have picked it up and put it back down more times than I can count. I was not a huge fan of the whole "whoa is me, my sister always has to be better than me" plot point. Which, is the main plot point of this whole book.

I finally decided to DNF this book at 48% because I didn't think pushing my way further through it would've changed my overall opinion about the story. I can see why other people might enjoy it, for sure. Unfortunately, it was just not my cup of tea.

I enjoyed reading about the sisterhood between Jess and Laura while they dealt with the pain of losing their mother to cancer. Both sisters were very different from one another, with one who had her life sorted and to the other who was still figuring stuff out.

The book dealt with different emotions that might face while mourning a loved one and how a constant sibling rivalry becomes very confusing when the very person who put them against one another is no longer there to ignite the fire.

After Laura and Jess lose their mom, they realize they only have each other left, however they find they have nothing in common except for biology. I found this to be a sad read, it turned ok in the end. It was a wonderful read.

A good read about the joys of family dynamics. Sometimes it takes a big event to draw those opposites together, and this book is a good tale about how a set of sisters does it.

I really enjoyed the often dark humour in this book! Love the way that the sadness of death and the difficulties of family were weaved in with the humour. Took a little while to get going (probably first 10% of book) but then I flew through it. Great book.

Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this early. I have never read anything by this author so i was excited when I was granted access. This totally reminded me of me and my sisters. If you have siblings, I recommend you put this on your list asap, you wont regret it!

Surprisingly funny at times, this book dealt with some deeper family issues in a way that was emotional but relatable, which made it enjoyable. At times the book seemed to have too much going on at a time, and I thought that it was much too long of a book for what it was. Overall I enjoyed the relationship between the sisters, and the flashbacks, but I had a hard time with finding the characters likable & struggled through this one a bit. I think if the story had LESS smaller plot lines and a focused few I would have enjoyed it more.

We Are Family follows the story of two sisters, Jess and Laura, dealing with the death of their mother from breast cancer. Laura struggles with issues of self-confidence and self-worth and has felt throughout her entire life because she could have never measured up to 'perfect Jess'

I got tired and frankly bored with the storyline. There seemed to be endless drama. None of these plot-points were ever fully explored, and the ones that were were wrapped up too neatly. There were too many plot points sprinkled throughout which were briefly mentioned and then dismissed, such as when Jess who is an Internet personality, gets trolled and is upset about the comment but this aspect of her life wasn't explored and we never get what happened with that. This book also dragged on for way longer than it needed to and the excessive plot points didn't help at all. I also went into this thinking it would be more like The Switch by Beth O'Leary where we would get more romance with both character's and that didn't happen as much as I would have liked.

I found myself annoyed with Laura throughout almost all of this, as she had a habit of reading insults into every sentence and all of the conflicts with her sister stems from her doing this, It was just absolutely frustrating. I wanted to shake Laura whenever she did this or when she couldn't say no to people who were obviously using her. Laura also got mad at her sister Jess for wanting to help her out of these scenarios which made me mad because she was literally just trying to help Laura and Laura in turn resented Jess for something that was out of Jess's control. We don't really get a feel for Jess either as Laura is the narrator the entire time and she basically was jealous of Jess which didn't help in developing her as a character at all. we do see Laura's relationship and her view of Jess change through the book but the last conflict between them was never resolved on-page and it was wrapped up too quickly even though the book was still dragging on after the fact.
