I can't say as I'd ever really considered what a cat thinks about being in a cone. Initially I thought this was kind of a silly story. On reflection, I can see the weight of what Howden has done here. She's talking to kids who find themselves facing a sudden restriction, a significant change in their lives. Maybe the cat can't do things it was used to but it finds new things, advantages that the cone gives it. A clever way of teaching us about making the best out of every situation.

This was the cutest little picture book. Just like humans who think their lives will never be the same after something traumatic happens, once the cone arrives the cat thinks his live is just doomed forever. However, soon he discovers the benefits of the cone (he mistakenly is given ice cream), he completely accepts the change. However, I wish the print could have been a little larger and easier to read.

Cone Cat by Sarah Howden is a delightful story. The illustrations are fun and I think this book is one that will make the kids laugh at the antics of this adventurous cat. When the story begins we find the cat waking up at the vet's office with a brand new cone. At first the cat is not happy about their circumstances as it gets in the way of everything, but as the story goes on the cat finds ways that his cone actually helps and gives the cat some advantages.
This story would be great for any child that has something different about themselves, as it has a great message that even though something is different, or you cannot do something the same way doesn't mean there isn't another way it can be done. Loved it!

What a hoot! I loved the despondent-looking Jeremy and how he became Cone Cat, almost like a superhero with an alter ego. It was funny to see Cone Cat make the best of his situation. And also funny (and sad) to see what happens in the end. I think kids will get a kick out of this one.

Poor Jeremy. He wakes up at the (Evil) Vet and is wearing [gasp] a cone of shame. Oh, the indignity. Life will never be the same. Until he discovers that life might just be … better. In ways. Hunting, stashing sofa stuffing, cadging some ice cream [yum]? There are things that Cone Cat can do that Jeremy couldn’t.

The Cone Cat/Jeremy illustrations are adorable and the text is delightful. I loved Jeremy’s inventiveness and ability to “think outside the cone.” As a cat lover and servant I immediately read the book again. And again. It’s clever and witty enough for adults but understandable for children, too. B+

Ohh the cone of shame! Any pet owner knows the struggles of their furry friend when they have to wear one. Poor Jeremy wakes up at the vet with the cone on and has to deal with the difficulties of the daily life with the cone. This was an adorable and funny story that I will be sure to add to our children’s collection and include in future story times. Great, witty writing, lovely illustrations, and a good message at the end. I really enjoyed reading this one! Laughed many times throughout!

Hilarious! Jeremy accepts his fate as Cone Cat and makes the most of it! As a pet parent, I have so much experience with the frustration cones bring, but Jeremy really made it work for him and I loved every minute of it!

Poor Jeremy is forced to become Cone Cat. Kids are really going to enjoy following his adventures as he learns to adapt to his new accessory. This one is quite the hoot.

Cone Cat is a cute picture book about a cat named Jeremy who wakes up in the recovery room at the Vets with a cone around his head. The horror! Jeremy decides that he is no longer Jeremy and that he is now Cone Cat. At home, he discovers all of the stuff he can't do with the cone on. Then, he discovers some great stuff he can do with the cone on.

This was a funny little story that my little guy enjoyed. It has a nice message about trying to find the bright side in your situation. Now my son wants to get a cone for our kitten. Hmmm.

Oh the poor little kitty cone head! The cone of shame is a personal affront. Jeremy initially hates the cone, but learns to love it once he realizes what it can do.

-He can more easily escape from the resident kiddo
-He can more easily steal people food
-He can use it to entrap bugs

And he can still have fun!

This was a delightful book, with a good message about adaptability for kids.

I may or may not have requested Cone Cat because my friend recently had to put a cone on her cat (that also looks similar to Jeremy) and I really wanted to read it so I could show it to her. 😹

1. Jeremy doesn't sound like a cat name
2. Maybe let's not encourage children to take advantage of being hurt or sick (because they already do it plenty tbh)

I adored the illustrations. And despite my 'negative' thoughts about the book, I think Cone Cat can also help encourage being positive when things go wrong.

Thank you to Owlkids Books and Netgalley for the review copy.

Seriously: how can you turn down a story centering on a cat's internal battle with the Cone of Shame? This is a super cute book with a great lesson. Jeremy the cat shows resilience and ingenuity, and he also puts an optimistic spin on an uncomfortable situation. For all he knows, he may live with the cone for life, but he quickly learns that there are benefits to counterbalance his frustration.

My one complaint is the picture of the cat grooming himself in a less than flattering manner, but ... well ... it's definitely true to life!

The artwork is colorful, eye-catching, and extremely well done. I loved this story and would give it as a gift or add it to any children's library. Nicely done, author!

I received an advance copy of this title in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was an absolutely adorable picture book about a very smart cat and his cone. Children will laugh out loud as they follow the cat's antics, while enjoying the beautiful illustrations. Also, it has a great lesson hidden in the pages about being careful or getting injured.

Such a great fun and funny read! My daughters are huge fan of cats and this book had us giggling most of the way through! They loved seeing what Cone Cat was getting into and we had a good talk afterwards about the book! It sparked a great discussion between us and was good lesson to share!

Thank you for allowing us to read and love this book! This is a perfect one for our collection!

Cone Cat is a super cute book that all cat lovers will relate to. Poor Jeremy finds himself wearing a cone, but then discovers that it actually does have some benefits. He ends up almost sad when the cone gets removed. But will that last? The illustrations in this book are well done. They feature a diverse cast of humans, and the expressions on the cat are perfect for each situation.

This book is adorable from start to finish. From the precious illustrations to Jeremy's hijinks as "cone cat", young readers will gobble this story up like a scoop of strawberry sprinkle surprise ice cream.

Such a cute and funny children's book with fabulous illustrations. I think kids who own a cat or dog would find this book even more enjoyable! I read it with my daughters and they really enjoyed it! I can't wait to read it with my first graders when I get back to teaching.

Although the book didn't download in correct page order, I was able to piece it together and enjoyed the story! I think littles will get a kick out of the clever cat's use of it's cone of shame! The illustrations were a hoot! Will definitely place ion my suggestion to buy list!

Finally, a protagonist one can really root for. Will Jeremy, the cat make peace with the new plastic cone cramping his style or will he figure out a way to Macgyver himself out of his predicament?

Guess you will have to read Cone Cat to find out.

Just when I thought that maybe I’d read enough picture books about animals, along comes Jeremy, home from the vet as Cone Cat. “I am Cone Cat now he told himself. I will never be the same.”

This book is cute, funny and gets the essence of being a cat.

I read a digital proof of Cone Cat via NetGalley and the publisher, Owlkids Books.
