Apparently my reviews (and Goodreads profile) are causing people to nastily tell me that I am the funniest/most-stupid person on the planet. Life is too short without humour and YOU ARE ALL MEAN GIRLS. #mikedrop
When life for the entire universe and planet turns on its end and like everyone else you "have nothing to do" while your place of work is closed and you are in #COVID19 #socialisolation, superspeed readers like me can read 250+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. (I have played a zillion games of scrabble, done a zillion crosswords and I AM BORED!!!)
I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.
From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸.
Wild-game hunter and chef, Michael Hunter, celebrates the use of wild ingredients in a stunning collection of recipes and photography.
Well-known hunter and respected wild-game chef, Michael Hunter, grew up in the great outdoors. Inspired by the endless bounty of the land, hunting, fishing, foraging, and cooking is a way of life for Hunter.
Celebrating the resources of the wild, The Hunter Chef Cookbook features a collection of over 100 recipes and butchery guides. The book includes recipes for cooking big game, from moose and bison to whitetail deer and wild boar. Common small game features include wild turkey, duck, wild goose, ruffed grouse, as well as rabbit and squirrel. Freshwater and saltwater fish recipes feature pickerel, wild salmon, rainbow trout, prawns, scallops, and more. A seasoned forager, Hunter offers an array of savoury and sweet recipes, incorporating wild ingredients, everything from mushrooms and leeks to sumac and berries.
I am decidedly not going to kill and butcher my own meat but the recipes in here are really yummy. My brother takes 21+ day-long canoe trips every year with his high school buddies and then cooks whatever he and the other "hairy men "catch, forage or kill. In some ways, this book should have come out in time for father's day (or mother's day - I don't want to be sexist ... genderist?) vs. the autumn but it would make a great holiday gift. The recipes are well written and the photographs stunning and it is perfect for the carnivore in your life, including you. It is rare to see books that include big game recipes and methods as well as foraged items. NOTE: be very careful over what mushrooms you pick as they can so easily kill you as many don't have antidotes.
As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🐗🐗🐗🐗
