Gorgeously styled and absolutely mouth watering cakes and other bakes. I don't know that I would be up to making any of them, but the recipes are well written and I have a feeling if I tried, this would guide me clearly through the process of making any of the recipes.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I am newly obsessed with cake and cookie decorating and loved to look at this book. I'm not sure I can make any of the cakes but there are other treats that look easier.

I enjoyed this cookbook a lot. Though the images in the book are extra stylized, often erring on the side of Gram-worthiness (there are too many pictures of absurdly manicured hands holding brownies oozing with chocolate, it’s bizarre) they produced an on-brand and colorful guide to trendy treats. I enjoyed the uncomplicated, sticky sweet recipes and it genuinely gave me an “I can do this!” thrill. I hope to follow some of the stuffed cookie combos and cream puff recipes. Hopefully they will be just as Instagram worthy!

Jenna Rae Cakes and Sweet Treats is by two Canadian women who own and operate two bakery’s in Winnipeg. Being from Winnipeg I have had the opportunity to try out multiple of their cakes, cookies, and other sweet treats from their bakeries. Jenna and Ashley have included many of their well known recipes, that are made easy to help bakers be able to complete their recipes at home. This is a great gift for anyone looking to support Canadian authors, and anyone who wants to bake over quarantine and this weird upcoming holiday season.

This book is just beautiful. Seriously, it's probably one of the prettiest cookbooks I've seen in ages. Although I haven't had a chance to try the recipes myself, they all are clearly laid out, with lots of extra info to help with overall baking. Often in cookbooks, there are a bunch of recipes I can't see myself making, but that is not the case with this one. They all look and sound delicious and I can't wait to get a physical copy to try them out for myself.

This book was received as an ARC from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I could not be more in the mood for sweets after reading this cookbook. Jenna and Ashley have such fun personalities and it shows through their recipes displayed in this book. This book was so colorful in the layout and the photos of all the desserts and recipes were so brilliantly done that I could not wait to make some of them. Including the cotton candy cupcakes and the brownie batter cookie sandwiches. When COVID-19 calms down I can't wait to travel to Canada and check out this bakery. Maybe if the recipes come out right this could be a potential candidate for our cooking demo at our library.

We will consider adding this title to our TX Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Jenna Rae Cakes and Sweet Treats by Jenna Hutchinson and Ashely Kosowan is a cookbook that will give you tips and techniques to recreate many of the authors’ signature desserts. It has a wealth of stylish photos and definitely gives readers an insight as to how the famous Manitoba bakery came to be. While the pages will leave you drooling, many of these recipes have a large number of steps that will seem daunting to some.

I have to admit that the minute I saw the cover for this book, I was instantly drawn in by the stunning cover. The styling and pretty treats are certainly eye-catching in this one. There is also no shortage of photos within its pages, so for those who love a cookbook that will look lovely on a shelf, this is one to add.

❀ INSPIRATIONAL STORY

The story that the authors tell at the beginning of the book is quite interesting and I am sure that most will find inspirational. These women have definitely created an amazing business that has caught the attention of many. It is a book that fans of their shop and those who have seen them featured in Martha Stewart Weddings will enjoy.

❀ DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS

There are quite a few different types of desserts to create from this book and it has quite a lot of chapters to choose from. The instructions are very explicit and detailed with tips for just about everything from ingredients to styling. If you have the time and desire to recreate one of the treats in this book, you are pretty much guaranteed perfect results.

The contents are as follows:

Cookie Sandwiches
Cupcakes
Party Squares
Cakes
Cream Puffs
Macarons
Candies and Confections
Fillings and Buttercream

Since it is pumpkin spice season and I am all about pumpkin spice right now, the Pumpkin Spice Muffin recipe was a no-brainer for me. The meticulous instructions did give me the tools to make some delicious bakery-worthy muffins. My only complaint is that for a home baker, I am not one for recipes that have a lot of steps. The muffins themselves were easy enough, but then there was a cream cheese icing to make, a crumble topping to bake, and a caramel sauce to whip up before assembling.

❀ A GORGEOUS COOKBOOK

If you enjoy a gorgeous cookbook that has lots of ideas for creating your own bakery-style treats, Jenna Rae Cakes and Treats is one to try. The steps are quite detailed and are sure to provide fantastic results.

The Sweetest cookbook! In my spare time, I love to find new recipes and try them out in my kitchen. There are so many cakes and sweet treats in this cookbook that I cannot wait to try out - in particular, the Earl Grey Cream Puffs! Colourful and delicious looking photographs of all the great bakes lies within the boundaries of this cookbook's bindings. Readers, bakers or not, will be inspired to follow along and create their own delicious delicacies. There are no "way out there" ingredients either - which makes this cookbook a practical one! This one will be on my cookbook shelf when it is published! Thanks to the publisher, authors, and NetGalley for the digital advanced reading copy. I will be on the look out for this one in October 2020! Closer to the publication date, I will be posting a blog post with some photographs and testimonials of the bakes that I have created. They are top secret at the moment! ;)

I first want to start off saying the colors and pictures are really wonderful in this book! I think the "How to use this book" section was very informative and helpful to use as a guide. I tried some of these recipes with my daughter and we really enjoyed the cotton candy cookie sandwiches the most! Some recipes were a bit difficult to do, but overall we loved the book!

This book is SO PRETTY! That's the stand out thing here - the pages are gorgeous, the desserts are pieces of art, and the photographs are amazing. A great part of this book is at the end where they give you tips on how to take beautiful pictures of your own creations.

One thing to note about the recipes is that a lot of the flavour profiles are recycled throughout the book in different forms such as there being a cotton candy cake, cookie, cupcake, party square, cream puff, macaron, hot chocolate, AND lollipop. However, I also think this can be useful to help teach you how to use your favourite flavour in different forms!

I really loved how they didn't just give you all of their tips in the beginning of the book, but made their tips specific for each section. Also, in the cake portion of the book, they included multiple pictures of the cake assembly for each recipe, which I found quite unique and helpful. It was also nice seeing them mix and match desserts together such as using their macarons as decorations for their cakes!

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada, and the authors: Jenna Hutchinson and Ashley Kosowan for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

I was so excited to review this book. I live in Manitoba, and I've been in Jenna Rae Cakes (both the Academy location and the Forks location). I have enjoyed the treats I've purchased there immensely, and even recommended there location to relatives visiting from the states.

The pictures are beautiful. That alone would be worth the purchase of the book. But the recipes. OMG! My favourite section was the sandwich cookies, but a close second was the cupcakes. This cookbook has inspired me to put more effort into presentation (maybe it's time to pipe on icing?!).

For such beautiful sweet treats, I thought the recipes would call for hard-to-find ingredients and multiple, complicated steps. Yes, some recipes will take a bit more time, but I think that the average baker will get wonderful results from the cookbook. Add in a bit of practice, and you (and I) can elevate our baking into beautiful confections.

BTW: when you stop by the bakery, try the pistachio & white chocolate flavour. You won't be disappointed.

This dessert cookbook is stunning! Not only is it beautifully put together but it is so easy to navigate and the recipes are easy to follow. There are only a few specialty ingredients but they are used in many recipes. Essentially this book is a lot of the same flavors remade into different desserts, but I really enjoyed that because it’s a lot of flavors I would really enjoy! My only complaint was that there was no chocolate cake recipe that didn’t have coffee in it. I feel like that is a classic recipe for cake that was missing. I’m excited to try some of these recipes in the coming days!

Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book!

There is absolutely no way in hell that I will ever be able to make sweet treats that look as good as they do in the pictures of this book. But sometimes I just like looking at pretty pictures of food, OK?! But these cakes/cookies/cream puffs/etc.? They look so pretty it’d almost be a shame to eat them. These are the sorts of foods you take a picture of before you eat them so you can show them off to people you know as if to say “see this gorgeous confection? I destroyed it with my teeth and stomach acid and it was AMAZING.”

Never have I wanted to own a stand mixer more! Although I don't have one I am so excited to try a couple of these recipes! Party squares and cream puffs here I come!
