I thought I would find this book dry and hard to finish but it was exactly opposite I thoroughly enjoyed the authors view on evolution.

An interesting look at how our biology and traits carried through generations mis-align with our current lifestyles. At times repetitive but ultimately a good read to think about how evolution really sometimes keeps traits that are not ideal and the true time it can take for those adjustments to start being seen in a population.

An excellent look at how evolution impacted modern life.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own

So much has been said over how we've dominated the planet that it's easy to look over what we're actually maladapted to, and it's usually items of our own creation, whether that be perpetuating violence, the advent of social media, sustaining stress...the list goes on. Considering all of our success as a species, Hart is asking us to explore how we're failing ourselves from an evolutionary standpoint, his chapter on the obesity crisis being a fine example.

Some of the answers might not be as clear as the reader wishes it to be, mostly due to inconclusive research, but there's quite a bit to ponder for each chapter (and the issues therein). Hart's book is a remarkable piece that refrains from getting too into the weeds with details, and his personal thoughts are a welcome addition in between the science.

You'll be the better for reading it. Really interesting material.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Sigma for the advance read.

The authors writing style is acessable to the layman and not overly acedemic in tone, a very entertaining and informative read.

This book is simply boring. If your cup of tea is lactose intolerance or some other areas were genetics have failed to catch-up with human civilization then go for it. Otherwise, stay away.

I found the first half of this science-based book fascinating as the author talked about how our changes over time fail to serve us in modern times (think foods we now eat and modern farming, being predisposed to putting on weight, etc.), but i lost some interest during the second half when it was more along the lines of how evolution shapes things like believing fake news or developing addictions. I found the biology more interesting than the psychology, but it was all around still a very interesting read.

I read a digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I personally hold the view that many, if not most, of the social and health problems we are currently facing, are due to our disconnection from our biology. Our modern world often works to the detriment of our biological rhythms, which causes us to constantly fight our own nature. Hence, the epidemic of constant stress, illness, autoimmune disease, unhappiness, sexual dysfunction, relationship strain, loneliness, and much more.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Very interesting anthropological look at human evolution and how we came to be how we are today. The author details the process of evolution and dives into how fat storage has led to obecity and diabetes. Although quite dense it does provide good information.
