Title: Lore
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Pub. Date: January 5, 2021
Rating TBD (but I’m guessing 5 stars, but 3 for now)

This will be a spoiler free review. Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free chapter sampler in exchange for an honest review.

When I first requested this on NG, I thought it was the full book. Having read this chapter sampler, I’m really annoyed it wasn’t.

What do you mean I have to wait for the rest??
It’s not fair.

I’m a sucker for Greek Mythology, and I really love it when it feels unique, fresh and new. Lore definitely checks all of those boxes for me. From the very beginning, I was sucked in, and already I want to know more. After a handful of chapters, the wait (assuming I won’t be approved for the full copy on NG, thought fingers crossed I am) until January 2021 is so far away.

I like Lore, so far (the character), but I feel like we’re still just getting to know her in the handful of chapters provided. I’m definitely interested in finding out the rest of her story, and how it all plays out. I’m really curious about Castor. I cannot wait to see how that all plays out. Then there’s Miles, and ugh, I already love him. He’s just there for Lore, and it feels so wholesome and good.

I really like the world that Alex has created/set up for this story. Seeing as how this is only a handful of the first chapters, the world is still only in its set up stages, but I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty epic. I’ve been following her writing journey with this book over on Instagram, so I know a lot of time, energy and research has gone into this book.

I’m so ready to completely fall in love with the world, the characters – basically everything about this book. I cannot wait. If you’re a Greek Mythology fan, or an Alexandra Bracken fan, you’re not going to want to miss this book. I have a feeling it’s going to be utterly fantastic.

In school, I studied Greek and Roman Mythology and it is still one of my favorite subjects to read. When I saw "Lore" by Alexandra Bracken I knew that I had to get my hands on this.

I love how the author so effortlessly blends Greek Mythology and the present together. Lore is going to be a great character and I cannot wait to see where this alliance goes.

I will update my review once I am able to read the full book.

Thank you to NetGalley for a preview!

The chapter sampler really gets me craving for more of the story! Lore is a fighter and has a lot of sass within her perspective. The writing was very easy to get into and I can't wait for it to release!

Thank you, Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney -Hyperion for the chance to read this chapter sampler of Lore by Alexandra Bracken!

To punish nine Greek gods for a past rebellion, every seven years they are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines. If killed, the killer will be able to seize the power and become a new god. That's the Agon. After her family was brutally murdered, Lore Perseous fled that world, refusing to get back to it and trying to live a normal life. But when the hunt dawns over the city she lives in, New York, two partecipants ask for her help: a friend she thought dead, Castor and a wounded Athena. Even though she tried not to think at the god who was responsible for her family's death, Lore decides to make a deal with Athena and rejoin the hunt.

I absolutely loved reading this sampler and it made me want even more this book! The story is so captivating and thrilling and I love stories about gods and goddesses and this hunt, the revenge, the new and old gods...I need this book! Lore is a fantastic main character, burdened by her past and losses, Miles is an amazing best friends and roomate and I can't wait to read more about this deal with Athena, Castor, the hunt and the fight with the new Ares!

Lore has hidden for the last several years in order to abstain from the Agon Cycle after her family was killed. She is the last in her bloodline and this years Agon is being held in New York where she is currently residing. She has made it a mission to fly under the radar and stay out of the eyes of the Gods and Hunters but when she finds A dying God on her doorstep she gets sucked in to possible revenge and freedom once and for all.

I could not put this sampler down. When reading these few chapters they flew by leaving me wanting so much more.

I have always loved ancient mythology and that makes this story all the more interesting. I love that Lore is realizing and pushing back against the patriarch society that the gods have set for the games. The winners and the leaders of each bloodline only being male.

This story has woven in so many interesting secrets and riddles that I cant wait to uncover as the story continues.

Just reading this chapter sampler, I am seriously intrigued and wish I had the full book! I really love this new twist on Greek mythology and I think Lore is a great main character. I have thoroughly enjoyed and loved all of the author's books, and I can already tell this is going to be phenomenal.

This was great! Can't wait for the full book!
I am really liking Lore's voice. She seems like she's going to be a great heroine. I love her sass and that she's a fighter, and she has so many emotions that she keeps to herself. That will lead to some great character development. I also really like Miles, he seems like a great character. I'm looking forward to learning more about Castor and Lore's childhood with him.
I absolutely love that this book is a twist on Greek myth told in modern day New York.

This review is based on the chapter sampler (huge thank you to NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion), not the full book. I absolutely love Brackens other books like The Darkest Minds series and Passenger so I have super high expectations for this book, and it hasn’t let me down yet!

**Warnings: blood, violence, death, grief**

Books with Greek mythology can often be very daunting to me, so much history and names I will never be able to pronounce, but so far I’ve LOVED this book and it’s mix of modern day times with a mythological twist. I can already tell that the main character, Lore, is going to be an absolute LEGEND (no pun intended haha). She’s strong, fights like a boss and has an iconic sense of sarcasm, can I be her please?!? Did I mention that I’ve only read six chapters and we already have BIPOC representation AND a LGBTQ character? Have I been obsessing over pretty much all of the characters since I read about them? Yes!

I was completely entranced by the plot and characters, the six chapters were over way to quickly leaving me wanting more. I absolutely cannot wait until I can get my hands on the entire book, and would so far recommend it to anyone looking for an thrilling read.

Oh my gosh I need the rest of this book now! It was captivating and has stayed with me even though I read it a couple of days ago <3 Brilliant work done by Alexandra Bracken.

This was difficult to read because of the choppy conversion, but I look forward to the final product. I love any twist on Greek mythology, and this promises to be right up my alley. And the cover is fantastic.

I want to start by thanking NetGalley and Disney Books for offering this chapter sampler. I am so very excited for this to be published in 2021, and decided to put in a mini review for the sampler:

People choosing to write books based on Mythology is not uncommon, but Bracken took Greek Mythology to a new level. She gripped me from page one with Lore’s compelling character and hidden past. Already Lore is someone who would defy her gods—her development is going to be incredible to say the least. I look forward to seeing more of one of my favorite mythologies incorporated into LORE and cannot wait to see more of her character soon!

I LOVE Greek mythology and Alex Bracken, so this was an instant "need to read" for me. The sampler is everything I hoped it would be. The characters are interesting, the plot is fast paced and unique and I love how the author made the Greek mythology elements blend seamlessly with a modern setting. I cannot wait to get my hands on the full book and see how the story turns out.

I loved this sampler so much! I was sad that I couldn’t finish the book. I love mythology and it was a great mix. Can’t wait til the release date!!

Such a great intro! We're thrown straight into the action, danger, and intrigue as the Agon begins again, putting 9 gods into mortal bodies as hunters attempt to track them down to steal their power. It feels like a more grown-up "Trials of Apollo", with elements that sometimes even trend toward Hunger Games. I don't have much experience with Alexandra Bracken's books, but if this is any indication she's clearly a talented writer with a knack for throwing interesting characters into unique and dangerous situations. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Wow! This is going to be so good! I wish I had a full novel and not just a sampler, but from what I read this is going to be one to look out for in 2021. Can't wait to read more!

Greek mythology, female protagonist, adventure novel! OMG I need more!
Lore is an intriguing, down-to-earth, mysterious New Yorker. I can't wait to dig into her past and explore how these combined worlds work together just over the span of a week.
I love the snippets of the Ancient Greek language trickled here and there. It really enhances the idea of Lore's past life. And the romance is only just sprouting, but I already feel its roots locking me down. Also, can I just say, who doesn't love a wholesome gay mortal best friend?
Can't believe I have to wait until January, but this is everything I want in Greek mythology YA. With Bracken's drool-worthy writing, I'm so excited for this!
