I love all things related to Greek Mythology so this caught my attention immediately. Now after reading this chapter sampler I am dying to read the entire thing. I'm hooked!
Thanks to Disney-Hyperion and NetGalley for this sampler - anxiously awaiting the full thing!

I'm a sucker for anything related to Greek Mythology, and I'm so excited for this book! Also considering it is from the author of The Darkest Minds, I am all the more curious.
First thoughts from the sampler I read - interesting concept and the story has been setup well so far. Not a fan of all the main characters being just perfect to look at, with model-like features. For example, I hated how Lore was noticing how good-looking and Adonis-like Castor (?) was in the middle of a freaking fight, but oh well. It's a personal pet peeve of mine, one that I'm willing to overlook if the whole setup pays off at the end.
Anyway, the book holds great potential and I can't wait to read more!

Thank you so much to Disney Hyperion and NetGalley for this sneak peak at Lore!
With mythical characters old and new and a hunger games for the Gods Lore is sure to be a tasty morsel for fans of fantasy. In just 64 pages, this sneak peak hooked me as it will hook readers of all ages with great pacing, character development, and world building. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to request the full galley and will keep my fingers and toes crossed for approval.

I received a sneak peek into this book in the 2020 Fall/Winter Buzz book.
I was excited to request the full book, then I see there was a mistake in the posting and this was just a chapter sampler... so i got a slightly bigger sneak pee into this book ...
I NEED MORE.
I not a HUGE fan of Bracken. I bought the Darkest Minds box set, convinced I would love it. and I couldn't even make it to "Through the Dark"
I TORE through the first half of the darkest mind, it started off so strong and then failed me at the end. So the concern is that this book would do the same.
I am a fan of Greek mythology, and so far this book is 5 stars.
I just hope that it carries through and that I have the opportunity to change my opinion about the author.

This is based on a chapter sample and not the full book. This could change once I read the full book. However, I the chapter sample holds great potential. I hope to be approved for the full ARC when available.

This sampler already made me so incredibly excited for the book! Alexandra Bracken is one of my all time favorite YA authors, and in my opinion everything she writes is gold. I cannot wait to see how this story unfolds further... the sampler definitely made me want the full book even more.

that was a very intriguing start! it definitely caught my interest and i'll be looking forward to reading the rest of the book.

This is my first Alexandre Bracken read, and just by this sampler I think I should definitely pick up the rest of her books! Lore instantly captured my attention from the first page--the story felt interesting and fresh. I loved the voice of Lore and her friendship with Miles. There was a bit of info dumping you have to get past when Lore explains to Miles how her world works, which kind of slows down the natural rhythm. The sampler ended on a good cliffhanger, just sad I wont get to see Lore and Cas' next interaction until Jan 2021. Definitely earned a pre-order in my book though.

I was excited for this sampler since I am a sucker for anything about mythology.
I had a hard time understanding the system that Bracken was trying to set up until the last chapter when it is fully laid out. All the tid bits up to then just caused more confusion as I tried to fit the idea into what I know about the Greek Gods.
I would be interested in reading the rest of the story to see how she builds upon it.

This was absolutely amazing! I loved every single moment in this sampler, and I cannot wait until the full book comes out. I was already really looking forward to this release, but I’m even more so now. Definitely have this marked on your TBR folks, it’s fantastic!

I had the opportunity to read a 6 chapter excerpt of Lore (coming 01/25/2021) and I can't wait to get my hands on the full book!
Admittedly, I'm a Greek mythology fanatic, and I love story lines that incorporate those ancient mythologies. Lore is a modern fantasy with a twist that brings those ancient deities into the modern world. Here's the blurb:
Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths.
Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.
The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.
The first six chapters did not disappoint. It has an excellent pace, hints at mystery, adds some humor, and got right to the tension. It's a fresh, unique take on Greek mythology and I'm excited to read more.
Now...who do I have to bribe to get more?
*I received an excerpt of Lore from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

When I requested this, it was advertised as the whole book, and I don't like to read chapter samplers so I'm holding off until I read the entire book.

Well, this seems like an intriguing premise. Greek gods along with bloody thirsty, power hungry new gods, in a deadly game to the death (and rebirth): count me in. As a lover of all things Greek mythology, I liked how such myths were adapted and modernised, whilst set against a modern backdrop. Lore is set in the modern age, in the bustling city of New York, yet deals with myths that are thousands of years old. I loved the combination of new and old, myth and modernity. The game aspect piqued my interest and the characters, both mortal and immortal, intrigued me too. This sneak peak has definitely left me wanting more and to watch the story unfold and unravel before me. I need answers and more clarity. I'll definitely be picking up Lore in future.

This sample is really great and I'm excited for the actual release. As a kid I loved Greek mythology and that love never faded. Having a new book on my shelf would be great and I want it to be this one. Lore is a fantastic character and not a weak heroine like so many other YA main characters. It's bloody and gritty and I'm in love with it.

I've been meaning to read more Alexandra Bracken since I read The Darkest Minds a few years ago. This was a good intro to Lore and I hope to read it soon. Thanks for the sampler!

This is only a review of an eARC of chapter samples from Netgalley.
An exciting new adventure that is sure to appeal to fans of PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS.
Lore fights on weekends to cope with the death of Iris, a woman who was like a grandmother to her. Her real parents and sisters were slaughtered by hunters. Descendants of the Greek gods who have an opportunity every seven years to kill the real god and steal their mortality. She is now the last of her house and she wants nothing to do with the gods—except revenge for her family.
The first few chapters are action-packed and set up a fantastical world in our ordinary one. Lore’s friend Miles is charming and Athena, the goddess, is perfectly bombastic. Can’t wait to read the rest.

I loved this sample and cannot wait for the full book! 2021 is so far away! It's hard to know for sure from just a sample, but the characters already seem rich and this is a world that I would gladly spend some time in.

I need more mythology-based books in my life and Lore promises to be an excellent one! The plot is a bit complex, unique, gritty, and has drawn me in to the world of hunting gods and goddesses made mortal for a short period of time. Our heroine, a descendant of Perseus, is strong and unforgiving and based on just a chapter sampler I got to read, she is a hero I want to follow through dangerous quests, pushy gods, and dangerous monsters.

Lore stays under the radar, sticking to underground fighting and diners with her friend Miles. She knows what’s at stake if the hunters find her. When her friend Castor-who was believed to be dead-shows up to warn her of those searching for her, Lore is thrust into the past she has been hiding from. Every seven years the Agon occurs-a supernatural hunt of the old gods by the descendants of heroes in an attempt to steal their power and immortality. Lore knows first hand the destruction caused by the Agon, and prepares to run. She returns home to find the goddess Athena bleeding out on her front steps. Against her better judgment, she bonds her life to Athena’s and in exchange, Athena will kill the one who slaughtered Lore’s family. Lore is an innovative take on classic Greek mythology. Fast-paced and heart pounding, Lore reads like a movie. I can’t wait to read the rest of the story!

What a tease!!! I am a sucker for a good mythology retelling, and from what I got to read of this book, this is going to be a 5 star for sure! Bloodlines of famous humans from Greek mythology battling the gods, taking power from the gods, and an unlikely alliance? I am here for it!!
