I've been meaning to read more Alexandra Bracken since I read The Darkest Minds a few years ago. This was a good intro to Lore and I hope to read it soon. Thanks for the sampler!

This is only a review of an eARC of chapter samples from Netgalley.

An exciting new adventure that is sure to appeal to fans of PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS.

Lore fights on weekends to cope with the death of Iris, a woman who was like a grandmother to her. Her real parents and sisters were slaughtered by hunters. Descendants of the Greek gods who have an opportunity every seven years to kill the real god and steal their mortality. She is now the last of her house and she wants nothing to do with the gods—except revenge for her family.

The first few chapters are action-packed and set up a fantastical world in our ordinary one. Lore’s friend Miles is charming and Athena, the goddess, is perfectly bombastic. Can’t wait to read the rest.

I loved this sample and cannot wait for the full book! 2021 is so far away! It's hard to know for sure from just a sample, but the characters already seem rich and this is a world that I would gladly spend some time in.

I need more mythology-based books in my life and Lore promises to be an excellent one! The plot is a bit complex, unique, gritty, and has drawn me in to the world of hunting gods and goddesses made mortal for a short period of time. Our heroine, a descendant of Perseus, is strong and unforgiving and based on just a chapter sampler I got to read, she is a hero I want to follow through dangerous quests, pushy gods, and dangerous monsters.

Lore stays under the radar, sticking to underground fighting and diners with her friend Miles. She knows what’s at stake if the hunters find her. When her friend Castor-who was believed to be dead-shows up to warn her of those searching for her, Lore is thrust into the past she has been hiding from. Every seven years the Agon occurs-a supernatural hunt of the old gods by the descendants of heroes in an attempt to steal their power and immortality. Lore knows first hand the destruction caused by the Agon, and prepares to run. She returns home to find the goddess Athena bleeding out on her front steps. Against her better judgment, she bonds her life to Athena’s and in exchange, Athena will kill the one who slaughtered Lore’s family. Lore is an innovative take on classic Greek mythology. Fast-paced and heart pounding, Lore reads like a movie. I can’t wait to read the rest of the story!

What a tease!!! I am a sucker for a good mythology retelling, and from what I got to read of this book, this is going to be a 5 star for sure! Bloodlines of famous humans from Greek mythology battling the gods, taking power from the gods, and an unlikely alliance? I am here for it!!

The chapter sampler seems very interesting. This makes me very eager to read the rest of the book. I cannot wait!!! I’ll definitely be requesting this one when the whole book is available!!

Perfect amount of text to pull in the reader and have her sitting on the edge of her seat until the entire book is released. Alexandra Bracken has always been a master of her craft, but based off this fantastical sample she has out done herself.

I love how the old gods are continuously replaced by new gods in this book. To me that seems like something that could be entirely possible if these gods did exist. I've only read the exerpt (first 6 chapters) and already I feel this undying urge to find out more, to reread, scanning for any small detail I could have missed. This is written beautifully and captures you from the first page.

The story is about a sort of Hunger Games type game that the reaming Greek gods have to go through every 7 years. Lore comes from that world but walked away when her family was murdered. At the start of this year’s Agon, Lore’s past comes crashing down on her and she now will be an active participant.

I love Greek Mythology so I’ve been wanting to read this books ever since I read the description. This ARC only comes with a sample of what looks like the first few chapters but what I was able to read is So good and I can’t wait to either get access to the full ARC or for the book to be published next year so I can buy it.

I'm well and properly intrigued. This book already sounds like it's going to be epic, and this short sampler gives a taste of the warrior-spirit that the lead seems ready to hold throughout the story. I cannot wait to get my hands on the full novel, devour it, and then hype it up to every other reader.

I wasn't told upon requesting this that I would be getting only a sampler. I also don't particularly like reading samplers. If I read a book, then I read the whole book. I never saw the point of reading samples. Still, I gave this a try and realized again why I don't like samples. I only read the first chapter and that was fine. I'll be waiting for the whole book to be published and then I will actually read the whole thing.

Honestly, when I requested Lore I thought I was going to get the whole book when accepted. Yet, I got the email stating that it was a chapter summary. To say I was disappointed would’ve been an understatement.

The handful of chapters were okay but they didn’t grab my attention right off the bat. Which is pretty normal or typical for any book because it doesn’t always start off with a bang.

We do get to meet Lore and we knows she a mortal and a fighter. Yet we learn a little bit more about her towards the end of this sampler. Not sure if I’m super excited to dive into the rest of the book based off of what I read today. Maybe I will but I have no way of knowing if I will be accepted for the full book or be rejected like usual and wait to get the book when it comes out.

Sadly, I was really excited when I requested this book and now I’m just in a funk. Maybe NetGalley should label samplers before the book can be requested?

I usually do not request chapter sneak peeks because they always leave me wanting more! But this was posted as a book and then it was later changed as a chapter sample, and I couldn't resist! This was so fun! I cannot wait to finally read this book as a whole because so far it has really grabbed a hold of me! I have loved books by this author and I am expecting the same with this one!

Honestly, if this had been labeled as a sampler when I requested it, I never would have requested it. I feel I can't give an informed review on a partial galley, nor do I have a desire to read part of a book.

Never in my life have I been so excited for a book after reading a chapter sampler. Reading the start of Lore has made me so unbelievably happy. With such a short part of the story, I can honestly say I am going to love this book.

With that said, is it 2021 yet? Because I need the rest of this book asap.

What a thrilling introduction to what will surely be one of the most anticipated books of 2021. American Gods meets Mortal Instruments.

Wow! What a great chapter sampler! I have eagerly been anticipating Lore and loved reading the first few chapters. Even from the first few chapters I already love the characters. I can't wait to learn more about Lore's past and how her oath with Athena plays out. This world is super intriguing and not like anything I have read recently. I can't wait to read the entire book!

Granted a sneak peek at Lore and I cannot get enough. The premise of this story is incredibly unique and from the very beginning the reader is thrust into what is shaping up to be an action packed adventure. From gods of old to gods anew and the descendants of heroes thrown in for good measure, I can’t wait to see where the plot goes. This chapter teaser cuts of right as your ready to delve in until the book is finished - I eagerly await the completed product!

Did I absolutely play myself and think that reading it would help me calm down the hype?? Absolutely yes of course. Am I even more excited for this book now?? ABSOLUTELY YES OF COURSE.

Alexandra Bracken immediately owned my soul with these characters and it took approximately 1000 words for it to happen. I cannot wait to read the entire novel.
