"A tiny smile plays around his mouth. 'I try to think the worst about you, too. And then you smile at me.' "

How to Quit Your Crush by Amy Fellner Dominy is a young adult contemporary romance novel that is the perfect combination of witty banter and swoon-worthy one-liners. This book is perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Kasie West, creating the perfect combination of cutesy and steamy moments.

Mai is the smartest girl in school, on track to go to one of the best schools in the country. Her entire life is planned out in front of her and she won't let anything get in her way. Anthony hates making plans. He wants to spend his days travelling the world and wants nothing to tie him to one spot. Mai Senn and Anthony Adams shouldn't work together. But when the two decide to have a summer fling in order to combat their mutual attraction to each other things getting a little messy. A competition begins to plan dates they know the other will hate to help them realize they don't belong together. But what happens when they have more fun than they anticipated?

I personally found How to Quit Your Crush very enjoyable! The story was told from dual POVs and I really enjoyed reading from Anthony's perspective since it's very rare to read from the males POV in a teen ya romance. Reading his reactions and seeing his feelings develop throughout the course of the novel was endearing and made me appreciate Anthony and subsequently, his actions, so much more! The banter between the pair was perfect and definitely made me chuckle. Their attraction to each other felt very believable and I could easily follow along and understand the characters actions.

I also really enjoyed the individual path each character took throughout the story. Instead of only focusing on the romance, the characters also had to overcome personal struggles. The parents of both teens were prominent in the story and added a deeper layer of complexity that I was not expecting, but thoroughly enjoyed.

The only qualm I had with this novel was Mai. I personally didn't enjoy her as a main character, however, I feel like that might be the intention of the author. She is a type-A who does not want to stray from her aspirations, which I can respect. However, her inner-dialogue in particular seemed rather snobby and self-interested at times. Technically this book is the second in a series, however, it is about two separate character so the books can be read in any order. Therefore, I would be interested to see if I would feel the same way about Mai once I read the first book in this series: Announcing Trouble. Either way Mai grew as a character and I am happy with her character arch as a whole!

Overall, I give How to Quit Your Crush 4/5 Stars! The book was quick, fun, and I would definitely recommend it to others. It is the perfect book for reading outside this summer.

I am so HAPPY. This was probably one of my favorite books of 2020, if not my favorite.
What makes this book so special? It is a TRUE romantic YA novel. Some characters in YA are too flat, or too grown up, or without any development through the whole story.

Well if something is special about this book is his MCs, they are beliavable teens. They behave like teens and the development feels real, not rushed at all.

Anthony and Mai are attracted to each other, they don't deny it, they don't try to hide it from one another. they just don't want to feel that way. So they come with a plan to get over each other before their future plans. But there are rules: no touching and not telling anyone.

I found this plot original. The MCs have actually already been together. This makes it more interesting, because they are attracted physically, but we don't see that. We see how they get to know the other, how they care more and more everyday. Their relationship is incredibly CUTE.

I love how realistic their struggles are and I understood why their struggles/fears kept them from being together.

I didn't read the first book in the series, but now I can't wait to do so. Thank you Amy for giving us such an amazing book, books like this one are the reason I love YA and the reason I love to read.

“But if you live afraid, you’re not really living. That’s no future at all” (chapter 39).

I read this in a day. Honestly, I don’t even think I put it down after I picked it up. The premise was really new and fun for me, and the depth behind the characters and the things they wish for or are scared of was very engaging.

Mai’s has some trauma in her past that she holds tight to and allows to define what’s important to her. Her family doesn’t seem to realize this because they encourage this behavior with their overbearing ideals instead of encouraging her to discover who she is and give her space for that. As a result, she has a bit of an identity crisis as she starts transitioning into adulthood after graduating high school. What would her life look like without carefully laid plans she’s created with her family? And would being different make her adoptive parents not want her anymore?

Anthony doesn’t fit in Mai’s carefully laid plans, even though she can’t help but practically drool over him. He doesn’t want to think about the future, he doesn’t want to make plans, he doesn’t even want to go to college. He’s definitely not someone she could ever bring home to her parents. Anthony is fully aware that they just don’t fundamentally work. So why can’t he get her out of his head? Why does he want to kiss her so bad?

The two agree that they need to let this crush burn up by having a fling to effectively make themselves unattractive to the other. They plan dates with the intention of turning the other off, but it ends up being way more fun than annoying. In trying to have something light to turn each other off, they end up digging in deep and understanding each other’s fears. I never wanted to stop reading about these two. Their chemistry and their vulnerability really won my heart.

I read this book because I loved Mai as a side character in "Announcing Trouble," but that was nothing compared to her having her own book. Seeing her and Anthony together was perfect. I wished the book was longer, but only because I didn't want to stop reading it. I really hope there is more from this world.

The dynamics of How to quit your crush are really interesting. Both Mai and Antony have had a difficult upbringing. They are worlds apart but opposites attract.

Mai is focused and driven. Antony isn’t aiming for academic excellence. The pair seem impossible, even after sharing a sweet memory. They both sign up for the same project and decide to try and quit their feelings for each other by having a 2-week fling. Their differences are apparent, but so is their connection.

This is a fun read with a difficult backstory. It’s part of a series however can be read as a standalone.

The first 10% of this book was a bit of a struggle for me. The set up was a little slow, but the story is really good and I’m glad I stuck with it.

4 stars out of 5.

How to Quit Your Crush is a good sweet read. This is Mai and Anthony's story and we get both their POVs. I love that we could get in both their heads. Mai is goal focused and a hard worker. Anthony is kind of a free spirit. He doesn't really have after school plans. Mai has a crush on him but he doesn't check off any of her boxes when t comes to her list of Necessary Qualities in a Boyfriend. They have great chemistry. They come up with a plan to spend two weeks to prove just how not good they are together. I loved them together and was so rotting for them to be together. This book was the first one I read by this author and I will definitely checking out more now.

I loved this romance book! I love their banter and honesty with each other. I wish Mai's family would cut her some slack but other then that I really loved it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves second chance romance and banter between two love interests!

3.5 stars.

I liked this book, it kept my attention and there were a lot of cute scenes. Mai and Anthony were adorable together and had a great connection. I didn't quite understand why their own stereotypes were getting in the way when they clearly had great chemistry and mutual attraction. I also thought Mai's family was pretty annoying. Overall a really cute YA romance.

Such a heart warming read!

I loved the chemistry between Mai and Anthony. I really loved Anthony’s character: how his dad’s death affects him is written so well. I loved how we got to see how this affected his relationships with people and with his aversion to “planning” (Anthony is shuddering as I type that, the poor lad.)

I also felt like I? Was? Mai? I have ophidiophobia (big word that just means I’m terrified of snakes) and so many times I saw myself reflected in Mai’s character: her fears, her wants and dreams. I was very much like her in high school ;-;

TRIGGER WARNING FOR PEOPLE WITH THIS PHOBIA: it was hard for me to read the serpentarium scene.

If you’re looking for a quick, contemporary romance to read, this is the books for you!

Thank you Entangled Teen and Amy Dominy for the Arc 📚

Announcing Trouble was hands-down the best YA book I read last year. So you can imagine how stoked I was to get my hands on How to Quit Your Crush. I was pumped to get some more time in this world, with these characters, and this completely delicious storytelling.

Amy Fellner Dominy did not disappoint. The magic that I found in Announcing Trouble was not a fluke. I was just as enchanted with this story, every bit as charmed by the writing, and completely in love with the characters. There is such an authentic feel in the way these stories are told – the voice is not too old, and not too young. It feels so realistic and, since my heart will never tire of falling in love for the first time (hence, my romance addiction), I was utterly addicted Hooked from the first page to the last.

Mai and Anthony were so much fun. They’re both carrying around a fair amount of baggage, so there are some heavier undertones to their story. Their interactions were a delight – full of sparky banter, heartfelt caring, and a flirty physical chemistry that set my heart aflutter. I loved how the characters grew and matured over the course of the story. I loved how they sorted through their own baggage and gave themselves space to grow separately so they could be better for each other together.

How to Quit Your Crush proved Amy Fellner Dominy to be a new favorite author, and a new favorite YA voice for sure. This was another piece of YA perfection – delivering more heart fluttering, smile-inducing swoons than I ever could have asked for. There is so much goodness tucked into these pages, and I can't recommend it highly enough!

“I like to think the worst of you. It’s helpful.”
A tiny smile plays around his mouth. “I try to think the worst about you, too. And then you smile at me.”

This was such a fun read! If you read Announcing Trouble by Amy Fellner Dominy and loved it, you’ll definitely want to pick up How to Quit Your Crush. This is Mai and Anthony’s story. I really enjoyed this one, it was full of fun banter and such great chemistry. The author teases us with these characters in Announcing Trouble and I’m so glad she gave them their own story.

Maya Senn is a perfectionist, a planner, she never takes risks and is super dedicated to her studies and planning out her future. Taking a break, relaxing, or “chilling” are words that do not exist in her vocabulary.

Anthony Adams is known for his carefree attitude. He takes every day as it comes, not worrying about what may be, what the future holds, or what to expect. He lives in the moment.

These two couldn’t be more opposite and yet their attraction is undeniable. They try so hard to get over eachother, but the more time they spend together, the more they realize how good they are for one another. Mai gives Anthony purpose and a desire to look towards the future and Anthony gives Mai the feeling that not everything needs to have a plan. Together they discover more things about themselves as individuals and begin to heal wounds that they tried to bury deep inside.

“I don’t want to be your mistake, Mai. Your lapse in judgement. And I don’t want to be your fling.” He steps back. “The question is: what do you want?”

This was such a cute opposites attract romance with a lot of heart and fun banter. I definitely recommend this read if you’re looking for something light that will make you laugh and have you daydreaming of your first crush.

⁣I'll have to be honest. My brain did not fully process that How To Quit Your Crush was about May, Josie's BFF from Announcing Trouble up until the very end. LOL! I can say that this book can be read as a stand-alone. Though, I loved Announcing Trouble so much that I highly encourage to start with this one.

How To Quit Your Crush is about Mai and Anthony, two very different characters who are fighting their attraction because they both know they're wrong for each other. Two weeks before leaving for college or a personal trip, they decide that the attraction will and needs to fade asap. They decide to go on a series of horrible dates in hopes they will be so mad at each other that they can move on.

This laugh-out-loud romance is a bit of how to lose a guy in a very cute and inspiring way. These two characters come from different backgrounds and have different goals, but they inspire and support each other. Even in the worst situations, they manage to get the best out of it. They learn a great deal about themselves as the other makes them step out of their comfort zone.

Once more, the author made me swoon, cry, laugh. This was the perfect read to distract me from what's happening out there. I love these types of story. I definitely recommend this book.

I’ve been struggling to read lately and this adorably fun book was exactly what I needed. Entangled Teen Crush stories never fail to make me smile, laugh, swoon, and just have a great time. How to Quit Your Crush by Amy Fellner Dominuy was no exception and I absolutely loved this delightful teen romance that had feeling giddy and hooked from the start.

I absolutely adore this story and the characters with all my heart! I found myself engrossed and enchanted by everything and completely loved spending time with Mai and Anthony. From the very beginning, I knew I would have fun with this book and I definitely did and so much more. The plot has everything I love and enjoy in romance stories – humor, banter, a little drama here and there, and plenty of adorable and heartwarming moments. I love stories about “first loves” especially the ones that are forbidden or opposites attract, so this one totally hit all the feels for me. It’s cute, it’s sweet, it’s wonderful, and it has heart. I was completely smitten and I couldn’t stop smiling while reading this book.

I think the characters are charming, realistic, and relatable. Mai and Anthony are fantastic leads and the side characters are pretty okay too. Both Mai and Anthony had their own insecurities and issues and it was lovely to see them mature and be there for each other. I loved their chemistry, their flirting, their bantering, and all their cutesy moments together. They’re just so adorable and perfect and all their interactions had my heart dancing and skipping and oh my the swoons!

How to Quit Your Crush by Amy Fellner Dominy is such a sweet, cute, and delightfully fun teen romance that had me turning the pages. I enjoyed the easy to read writing style, the wonderful storyline, the lovely characters, the romance, and all the beautiful moments that made me smile. This deliciously swoony and heartwarming YA romance is the perfect summer read and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher, Entangled Teen Crush via Netgalley. All thoughts, opinions, smiles, and swoons are my own.

How to Quit Your Crush by Amy Fellner Dominy is a sweet summer story about Mai and Anthony and their efforts to stop being attracted to each other.
Obviously things do not go as planned (not a spoiler!) and that's when the fun begins.

I liked the dynamics of the book and how different but at the same time similar our characters are. They both had difficulties in the past that made them who they are now. I also really liked the writing style of the author and I'll probably try to read more of her work.

A cute YA romance about a girl who plans her entire life and a guy who lives for today.

Mai and Anthony had a short-lived romance during their senior year. Despite her ending it there are lingering feelings, so they decide to plan dates that the other person will hate. Of course, things are not quite that simple and instead of growing apart they begin to grow closer together.

I liked both Mai and Anthony and how they grew over the course of the story. They each had experiences that shaped their outlooks on life, but then they were able to learn from each other too.

I've been in a bit of a book slump lately and while I've read good books, nothing was hitting me in the feels really. Until I read this. From the moment I started Mai and Anthony's story, I was hooked.

These two aren't supposed to meant to be. The Uber planner and just chill and go with the flow guy. They don't mesh, except they do. Perfectly. They take each other out of their carefully crafted boxes and challenge the other.

I have never read a book by this author before so I didn't know what to expect. What I got was a book packed full of emotion and connection that I don't tend feel when I read YA. I'm going to have to go back and read Josie and Garrett's story now!!

How cute! No, seriously.
Mai & Anthony are adorable.
YA is definitely not my forte, but this was a refreshing break from some of my heavier reads. It’s nice to time travel to simpler times.
I really enjoyed the story overall.
I didn’t really care for Mai’s family, & some of their drama was a little more juvenile than it needed to be, but otherwise, a great read.

Anthony and Mai are polar opposites; she’s cool, calm, collected and destined for the ivy leagues. He’s perfectly content just taking life day by day, and he appears opposed to planning out his future in any way. The one thing they can agree on, however, is their burning chemistry! When they decide to take a two week “fling”, neither of them expected to peel back the layers of the other, or what that might mean for their future.

You guys! This is what YA romances are made of. I was so drawn to the characters that I could barely put it down. They each carry their own baggage from their pasts, and it was so fun watching them figure out who they want to be and just grow as characters. Although they both had flaws that were a little annoying, the author did such an excellent job at painting their backgrounds and really creating whole-picture characters.
There was just enough romance to keep me wanting more, but to also keep it PG-13. Although the ending was a little predictable, I was still interested to see exactly where the characters would end up.

Highly recommend for fans of To All the Boys I Loved Before and The Kissing Booth!

I enjoyed this, but I wanted to enjoy it more than I did. It was fast paced and enjoyable but I found the back and forth between characters emotional POVs annoying, the constant repetition of oh I shouldn’t but, we can’t be together but...., it was irritating. I found it just detracted too much and stop me enjoying it more.its a shame because I loved the previous book in this series (this can be read as standalone) and I’m sure I will love future books as much again, just not disappointed in this.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
