This was a great psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. This is my first book by this author but definitely won't be my last.

You've worked hard your whole life to get to this point. A successful ER doctor, a loving marriage, two great kids. But for the last year, you've been receiving creepy gifts, at your front door no less, and emails that make you feel cornered. He's taking pictures, threatening your children and no one will help. Every time something happens, you ask yourself, why me?
Then one day in the ER, you look down at your patient and it's him. He's critically injured. What do you do?

this is a dilemma no one would want to find themselves in. In ONE STEP BEHIND, Lauren North tells the story in such a manner that you are in the victim's shoes. She's a doctor, but this man has endangered everything she loves. How she works through this choice becomes even more of a question when she finds he is not alone in his quests. Told in differing POVs with an urgency as decisions will lead to a surprising ending.....well, it's a good way to spend a weekend.

A tense and suspenseful read. This addictive read which pushes the boundaries of a stalker thriller. What a ride.

ER doctor and her family terrorised by a stalker. Well written. While I really enjoyed this book, there was a small part in the middle that seemed to drag a bit.
4 stars

Seriously creepy and a tad unbelievable.

Jenna is an ER Doctor who happens to have a stalker. It's been over a year now and the police have no leads (my first thought here was REALLY?! (none at all?). Throughout this time, Jenna has received threatening notes and gifts and has tried to keep her family safe from him but to no avail.

The day her stalker is wheeled into her ER after a life threatening accident, Jenna has an ethical dilemma to consider. Saving his life would mean wreaking havoc in her own. Oh the tangled web we weave.

Once all was revealed as the why the stalker had it out for Jenna.. well. my eyes rolled.

A psychological thriller, that left a little to be desired.

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for the arc.

This was an entertaining read and did keep me guessing. But the characters were really unlikeable, especially the main character, Jenna. Also, it took awhile for the story to work up to some suspense and action.

Jenna is a doctor ... with her own personal stalker. She sees him everywhere, but has no idea of who he is and why he's chosen her for a target. He leaves gifts on her doorsteps, and her house has been broken into. The police don't seem to be able to help as he has not actually threatened her.

When her stalker is brought into the hospital where she works, she recognizes him immediately. The man is in a coma ... and Jenna wants answers.. and she's determined to get him out of her life ... once and for all.

Suspenseful and full of twists and turns, it's a real page turner. It's fast-paced with characters that are solidly drawn.

The story is told by the main character, Jenna, and another female, Sophie. Each has her own set of problems. Jenna is a wife, mother, and ER doctor. She also is the victim of a stalker.
This was a fast paced psychological thriller. It kept me guessing throughout most of the book. Sophie is brought into the story and things get a little more twisted as her story line is intertwined with Jenna’s. The tension and twists made the reading go quickly.
I gave the book 4 1/2 stars. There were a couple of things that kept it from being 5 stars. First, there were a few things that were a stretch to be believable. Also the ending was done well until the last few lines which left you wondering. It was like a little unnecessary kicker at the very end which left you scratching you head and thinking, did I miss something? This little kicker might go unnoticed by some, but was definitely not needed and was certainly not a lead-in to a sequel. I don’t want to say more and possibly reveal part of the story that would be better read by you for the first time.
A big thanks to NetGalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick read that I flew through in a few days. It was a great psychological thriller that I will definitely be recommending!

3.5*
Jenna is an Emergency Room physician. Married with 2 children her life should be perfect. As is often the case it’s far from it. Her marriage strained to the limit. Oh yeah…and she has a stalker that authorities are so far unable to catch, making her life rather miserable.

What are the chances that same stalker would be admitted into the ER as a patient. Apparently a lot better than you might think, creating a major moral dilemma for our fine doctor. Can she realistically follow her oath and treat him? Or is it her one chance to take revenge?

An extremely fast read that I flew through in just a few days. I toggled back and forth between the written word and audio. Both worked well for this book.

I found the twists to be a tad predictable but overall it was a good solid read.

I was introduced to the concept of medical ethics at an early age, thanks to the TV show M*A*S*H. “He is the enemy,” Frank Burns screeched as Hawkeye began operating on a North Korean. “Funny; he bleeds just like our side,” Hawkeye answered. In Lauren North’s latest suspense thriller, One Step Behind, British emergency room doctor Jenna Lawson is fighting her own private war, and the enemy has remained unseen. Jenna is being stalked by a stranger; she sees him everywhere she goes. He sends threatening emails. He leaves burned dolls outside her home. He knows the name of her husband, Stuart, and her children, Beth and Archie. Jenna’s called the police multiple times, but there’s really nothing they can do.

I loved this book! What would you do if you were the victim of a stalking that was destroying your family's life? What would you do if you were a doctor and had the chance to save that stalker's life? The story of Jenna's dilemma and the aftermath. This book is a true thriller and kept me glued to the pages!

Thank you to NetGalley, Lauren North and Berkley Publishing for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review,

This novel was interesting, but I didn't find the pace satisfying and it got a little tedious listening to her be upset about her stalker with nothing new really happening. It does get better as it goes on and I enjoyed when the main character began investigating her own stalker. THat's where things really start to heat up and I enjoyed the investigative aspect of it quite a bit. I was actually quite surprised by the ending and that was quite nice. Overall, it is an interesting novel that some people will really really enjoy.

Thank you net galley for my review copy. One step behind is a story about Jenna, a mother an emergency room Doctor, Who is being stalked. Who doesn’t love a good stalker story. The premise seemed very exciting but the story fell a little short. It started out good but fell off The second half.

I was hooked from this book right from the synopsis. Maybe because I've been watching too much of "You" on Netflix, but regardless, I couldn't wait to pick this one up.

While I thankfully have never been stalked (or at least that I know of), the beginning chapters in Jenna's point of view made me really understand how this has impacted all areas of her life, especially her way of thinking. If I was in her shoes, I'm not sure if I'd be able to make the same decision as her. This is definitely one of those books I'll always remember because of it.

A few things I thought were really weird was the way Jenna acts towards a certain character, it was almost hypocritical. And while I didn't guess the ending, I wasn't totally surprised or blown away by it either. It was believable enough for me to say "Ah, ok. I get it." but nothing more.

Either way, if you're looking for a psychological suspense that keeps you on your toes, definitely add this to your TBR.

I was immediately drawn into this story by the first few chapters from Jenna's perspective. Then the perspective shifted and the time shifted and I got disoriented. It took me a few chapters to understand the different perspective since they weren't focused on the same action or mutual characters (yet). Once I got my bearings, I tore through the book. I loved the cat and mouse chase. But soon, the books got a little repetitive - no one believes Jenna, or are not supportive of her, etc. And then the ending came. And let me tell you, I was shocked! But then I thought about it more and really, it came out of no where because there weren't any signs throughout the book so it was a superficial twist. Overall, I enjoyed the twisty-ness but it fell short for me.

I was a huge fan of "The Perfect Son" so was anxious to read Lauren North's new novel. Jenna a doctor, mother and wife is the victim of a stalker who has turned her life upside down. One day while working in the A&E, a patient arrives who she recognizes as this man. While he is hospitalized, she should feel safer but is she? There are several suspicious characters but the final reveal was a little less than believable. Overall though, a good story.

This was a random request on NetGalley and I’m so glad I had the chance to read One Step Behind. I couldn’t put this one down.
Have you ever had that feeling you’re being watched? Thought you saw a shadow across the street? That eery feeling you’re not alone? Jenna sure has!
I highly recommend this book. It’s a quick read and will grab your attention on the first page!

Great edge of your seat psychological thriller.
Kept me guessing on what was going on. Great twist. Solid great read.
Characters are loveable and hateable but are you loving at hating the right ones...hmmm

Thanks to the Author, the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Wowza!!! I loved the synopsis for this book and was so excited and nervous to start it. What if I hyped it up too much in my mind? What if the rave reviews raised my expectations too high?
Well I couldn’t drag my eyes away from the pages right from the first few words and even read with a splitting headache because I just had to know what happened next! Y’all know I love first person perspective and nonlinear timelines and this delivered in spades. Told from the perspectives of two women and the childhood of one of them in third person, which was very interesting and made it very easy to follow. What made it really interesting is the one of the characters, Jenna, is telling the story directly to her stalker. Sort of a reverse version of YOU (the book/tv show) but was different in a very good way. I suspected everyone from the husband to the other narrator’s boyfriend to her brother to coworkers at the hospital and pretty much everyone in between. Lauren was able to give me enough throughout so I wasn’t frustrated but totally enthralled.
I wish I could give this one 10 stars!

Huge thanks to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this book and trust me... this review is as honest as it gets!
