A fabulous follow-up to the first book in the American Royals series! Looking forward to sharing this with students. |
I enjoyed this sequel to American Royals. Such a cute series! Loved this one! Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own. |
Well, I could NOT wait to get my hands on this, so a quick thank you to NetGalley and to Random House for the ARC. Just like American Royals, I devoured this in a 24-hour period. Y’all, these books will HOOK you. One thing that I absolutely adored in this book is the exploration of friendship and all of the characters really explore who they are and what their wants and needs are. I just loved the character development in Majesty, that truly was a shining aspect of this sequel. |

My 13 year old daughter and I both really enjoy this series and shared my advance copy. :) This was a very satisfying sequel. The characters all showed growth and there seems to be potential for further titles. If so, we look forward to reading them! |
Thank you Random House Children's for the opportunity to review an advance copy! As someone who grew up on The Princess Diaries and Gossip Girl, Katharine McGee's alternative future of the United States felt like coming home. I so enjoyed book one, but I feel that the character development, especially of Beatrice, in this sequel was so strong and made it even better than its predecessor. There was a perfect amount of history-related Easter eggs and pop culture references. I look forward to this series continuing! |
I’ll give Majesty this, it did provide a teensy bit more of what I wanted from American Royals. If you’re going to remake America into a monarchy, you should touch on things that would be different without a democracy. To say that this book is anything but a teenage drama written out would be a lie. Basically, this book took all the romances that built up in the last book and turned them on their heads. Strengths became weaknesses and vice versa. I enjoyed the fluff book for what it was until right before the end. Daphne’s decision was so out of the blue and uncharacteristic for her, I found it hard to believe. The thing that saved the ending for me was Beatrice’s change to being more assertive. I wanted this to be a four star book, but it remains at a 3.5 for me. Thank you, NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my unbiased review. |

The sequel to American Royals, Majesty is full of the same type of twists and turns as the first, with a lovable cast of characters. Though not quite as unputdownable as the first, I enjoyed watching the machinations and love stories of the four protagonists. |
Majesty•Katherine McGee ⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) Thank you to @netgalley and @randomhousechildren’s for the free copy in exchange for my honest review. ——————————————————— “Most of all, she told him. I’m going to be the queen.” —————————————————— 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Thumbs Up: Fun! Quick read! Well written sequel. • 👎🏻Thumbs Down: This one was good! But a lot of the stories took a turn I wasn’t expecting. I felt a bit disappointed at first with some storylines but I enjoyed the character development. In the end I still enjoyed the book and I’m hoping this will become a trilogy! • 🤓For readers WHO: Are fans of the royal family, liked American Royals. You NEED to have read American Royals to read this one. • 👉🏼This is what’s WHAT: After her father’s death, Beatrice assumes the throne. Everyone’s world is turned upside down and relationships are on the rocks. How will grief and loss impact the friendships and love stories that unfolded in book 1? • ⏳WHEN I read this book: I wanted book 3! Is this gonna happen?? • 🚨WHERE you should watch out: One very closed door sex scene, a few kissing scenes. Mentions of cancer/death. • 📍WHY you should read this one: If you liked American Royals it’s a good sequel! • 📚HOW I read it: E-Arc via @netgalley thank you to @randomhousechildren’s |
Picking up a sequel is always a little daunting. There’s always a good chance that It won’t have the same flow or mood as the first. This book delivered in every way. It satisfied all of my anglophilia (but in America) & provided just the right amount of suspense & tension to balance what could’ve been just another little romance. There were a few moments when I felt like it was trying a smidge too hard to tick some boxes, but in the end, those little bits were too inconsequential to really register. If you liked the first, pre-order American Royals II: Majesty. You won’t be disappointed! Thanks to @netgalley for the ARC |
Katherine McGee writes books about rich teenagers SO well. I powered through the Thousandth Floor series a few years ago, and I have been in LOVE with American Royals. This book lived up to the HYPE!!! While I found Beatrice a bit insufferable in the first book, I really fell in love with her here. My heart is aching for these characters. (Although, I am unsure why everyone likes Jeff... is it just because he is cute?! The women of these books are so much more dynamic!) Is it time for book 3 yet?! Thanks to netgalley and Random House for the ARC!! |
I cannot rave enough about this book. American Royals was a top fun read for me in 2019, so Majesty has been one of my most anticipated releases of 2020. I was so happy to get my hands on an advance review copy from the publisher and Netgalley. Majesty DEFINITELY lived up to my expectations. I was so happy to see a focus on Sam and Teddy in book two and loved the new characters introduced (Marshall!). I am so hoping for a book three ASAP! |
American Royals was such an addictive read, and this sequel is the same. The story picks up right after the first book with everyone dealing with the death of King George. Katherine McGee, did such a great job of not only creating lots of addicting drama, but also allowing the characters to grow and become better versions of themselves. While the ending was not what I was expecting after reading the first novel, it's so much better than my imagined ending. Beatrice and Sam grow into their positions while reconciling their relationship. Daphne was as cunning and cut throat as ever, hurting everyone in her path to get what she wants. My only criticism is with Nina's character. She was such a spunky character in book one, but in this book she fell short. Her chapters were a bit dull and lacked her spark from the first book. |
Honestly, I think Majesty might be even better than the original American Royals. So now that Beatrice has assumed the throne, she has a lot more riding on her messy love life, not to mention, a whole country to run. Meanwhile, Sam and Nina also face their own issues with their love lives and their places in (our just outside of ) the royal family. Compared to the last book, I thought that the characters were more developed, and they also grew a lot throughout the novel. I loved it. I'm not even interested in the real royal family, but I loved this series so much. I hope there is a third one. I would honestly read anything Katharine McGee writes. |

Honestly, it has been quite a while since I read American Royals, so I had to read a few synopses to remember where the first book left off. The American Royals II: Majesty picks up quickly and resumes the fast-paced and very public lives of America's royal family. After the passing of their father, Beatrice, Samantha, and Jefferson have new roles to play and have some very important decisions to make, namely concerning their love lives. While each sibling grapples with their own love triangles, Beatrice and Samantha also have to consider their new roles in the monarchy. The characters are witty and the romance is, at times, sweet and, at others, spicy. Ultimately, McGee penned a fabulous follow-up to American Royals that keeps you wanting more...including, at minimum, a third installment to the series. |
The next installment of the American Royals series in which Beatrice assumes rulership and all the players deal with their romantic feelings. Beatrice and Teddy's wedding is set to proceed as the two set about getting to know each other better. Nina stays firm with her breakup with Prince Jeffrey while finding a new love interest who she thinks she loves more. Sam plots to make Teddy jealous, but finds true love instead. Daphne is as scheming and deceitful as ever. I liked this book for what it was....an installment in a teen-esque soap opera. I was hooked and will definitely read the next one....but it really is a soap opera in the vein of Gossip Girl (maybe Pretty Little Liars, but the dying has not happened yet). It would make a great mini-series! Bottom line, not serious reading, but fun. Grab this book for the beach, road-trip travel, or when you need to distract yourself with someone else's first-world problems. |

What happened? I adored "American Royals" and simply inhaled that book in one sitting. Couldn't wait to pick up the sequel. Got an ARC from NetGalley and eagerly started reading it and that's when things went downhill...The plot (or whatever you want to call it) got repetitive almost instantly: a boy/girl A is in love with boy/girl B, but will fake-date boy/girl C, so that boy/girl A will get jealous, while boy/girl C is in love with boy/girl A, but will fake-date some else to make boy/girl A jealous, and round-and -round we go. With EVERY SINGLE character. Why? Also, about half-way through the story, every time Marshall refers to Teddy or talks to him, "Ethan" is written on the pages. Don't know if it's an editorial error or what, but it was weird. To be honest, I thought this book suffered from the typical "second book" syndrome and since it ended without the actual "end", I was sure there will be a third book next year. However, it seems like this is the END, there won't be a third book and now I am even more confused as to what was the purpose of this story? |
After finishing the first book, I was so excited to get into this sequel. For the most part, everything was good, but it seemed a little flat. There was so much going on with all of the characters that nothing seemed to be flushed out completely and it felt shallow. There didn't seem to be much in the way of character development despite most of the characters going through major life changes. Himari forgiving Daphne for causing her to be in a coma for almost a year is completely unbelievable and out of character (I'm assuming this will be dealt with in the next book). The ending was also unfulfilling, there was no closure of it being the End, but also nothing to really make me NEED the next book. There is a good chance that I will not pick up the next book, simply because of how forgettable the ending of this book was. |
Another great story about in the American Royals series. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about these royals and the new characters were fun! |

American Royals II: Majesty was a wonderful sequel to the first novel. I flew through the book because I had to know what happened to the women of the novel. I thought the character development and arcs of Sam, Beatrice, and Daphne were particularly well done. I thought Nina's storyline/arc wasn't as strong as the other characters. I love that the women in the story are multidimensional, round characters and that you see different sides to the male love interests as well, except for Prince Jefferson. He really isn't in the story much and after two books, I still don't feel like I understand him. I am very hopeful that there is another book so that I can follow the adventures of these characters - especially since I feel that Daphne's story needs more resolution. |
I loved this book! It was exactly the escape that I needed. The characters are strong, ambitious women finding their paths in life. The plot moves quickly, and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to each character. It was satisfying and didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but I really hope there is a third book in the works! Thanks for the opportunity to read this book early! |
