I liked this author's explanations of the different products to use and how to integrate them into the recipes. I requested this book because my mother is diabetic and I'm trying to reduce the refined sugar and common flour I'm using. This book was a good start for me to do so while trying new recipes and learning how the elements work together. |
So many delicious-sounding recipes! They’re all pretty complex, though, since these are meant to be vegan, gluten-free, refined-sugar-free, etc. etc., but oh man, if you have the time and the ingredients on-hand, the recipes on offer here sound sweet without being sickly sweet. I mean, you don’t have to be vegan to be tempted by a chocolate cake with rich chocolate ganache. Or an apple-spice layer cake. Or a chocolate-hazelnut tart with strawberries??? Oh man my taste buds are going insane just thinking about it. And if it’s even vaguely good for me, that’s an excuse for me to eat it. |
As a frequent baker, I am well versed in all things cocoa powder/sugar/flour... but without so much expertise in vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, etc. baking alternatives. While trying to transition into healthier eating, I figured this cookbook could be an inspiration in attempting new recipes and reducing refined sugar. I learned of so many ingredient alternatives I didn't even know existed. I was in awe of the presentation of photos to accompany recipes, and the variety of flavors to appeal the reader. I did attempt several scone versions in order to make breakfasts healthier...and tricked my boyfriend into not even knowing they replaced our usual sugar-laden treats! This is a great book for all bakers who want to be adventurous and test out new ingredients, new recipes, and sneakily healthy treats! |
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Bakerita. Several years ago, I had a health issue that forced me to adopt a paleo diet. Later, I discovered my issue was caused by stress and I went back to my carb eating loving ways. But, I had grown accustomed to eating and baking paleo sweets and baked goods. Even though my health is fine, it can't hurt to eat better, and I'm always on the lookout for healthy, delicious recipes that don't use regular flour. Bakerita is a great book - its informative with easy to understand instructions and beautiful photographs. Bakerita is one of those rare cookbooks in which I want to try to make all of the recipes. This book might interest some people who have never tried paleo baking or desserts before. |
This was a beautiful and lovely book! I enjoy sweets but prefer to eat a gluten-free diet and use nutritious ingredients. This book had the loveliest recipes and most decadent photographs. I look forward to trying many recipes, including Baked Chocolate Donuts, One Hour Cinnamon Rolls, Vanilla Bundt Cake with Blood Orange Glaze, Paleo Chocolate Melting Cakes, Apple Crumb Pie, Nut-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Brookies. This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone who enjoys baking, especially those who follow a gluten-free or vegan diet. Thank you, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley, for a digital ARC! |
Oh no, cake without flour or sugar? I thought this cookbook would read as a disaster, but actually the recipes sound nice and the book is lovely to look at. Good addition as we are lacking on gluten-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free baking books. |
When life for the entire universe and planet turns on its end and like everyone else you "have nothing to do" while your place of work is closed and you are in #COVID19 #socialisolation, superspeed readers like me can read 250+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. (I have played a zillion games of scrabble, done a zillion crosswords and I AM BORED!!!) I have requested a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review - the book is already out and I have already read it so I am going ahead and posting it now and will put it on #Netgalley if approved. I WAS APPROVED ... so here we go: From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. Amazingly delicious and beautiful gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar–free desserts from the popular Bakerita blog Rachel Conners began her blog as a hobby to share baking recipes with friends, but when she started to focus more on gluten-free, paleo, and vegan recipes to make things she could share with her sister, who was following a strict diet due to health concerns, Rachel quickly realized she was onto something. Bakerita surged in popularity as fans flocked to it for delicious and beautifully photographed recipes. Interest in gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar–free foods continues to grow in popularity, yet there are remarkably few books available focused just on desserts, and even fewer with recipes that even beginner bakers can make at home. That's where Bakerita comes in, offering recipes for everything from breakfast treats like Lavender-Lemon Raspberry Scones, pies and tarts such as Chocolate Mousse Pie, cakes including Mocha Chip Cheesecake, and updated all-time favourites like chocolate chip cookies, all made without any hard-to-find ingredients. This is a great book for today's food trends: I have discovered that I am allergic to wheat (not gluten, wheat!) so these recipes will be a godsend to me. (Thank goodness I did not have to give up my beloved steel cut oats as I buy them in 20kg bags from a local flour mill that is older than the country of Canada is!) The recipes in here are yummy: I actually read the book last month before it hit the #Netgalley availability listing and made the Lavender-Lemon Raspberry Scones for my mom. She loved them as did my dad and my husband, two of the fussiest eaters on the planet!! Well-written recipes, lovely photos and a great book for anyone who eats this way or is thinking of eating this way, or a fan of her wonderful blog!! As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🧁🥧🎂🍪🍩 This book review is also referenced/reviewed at: http://www.facebook.com/janetsbookcorner and https://www.amazon.ca |
