My favorite book in this series and I have liked them all. Returning to Unforgiven and the wonderful characters that inhabit the small town is always a treat. Reese and Lorelei are brought together with they both discover they have a newly orphaned niece. Lorelei is strong and overflowing with pride. Reese cannot tell you what he is thinking without putting his foot it. They may not seem to have much in common except for adoring their niece and wanting what is best for her. That means surrounding her with people who love her and it seems that creating a family for the baby might mean creating one for each other as well. This is a layered story where two flawed characters who think they are reconciled to living their lives they way it already is find out that the world has so much more in store in for them.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mehhhhh, I was really looking forward to this hunky cowboy frieking rodeo-ing me away, but I was just left standing here waiting for the bull to knock everyone out (except sawyer, I like sawyer). Okay so the book wasn't my favorite, Lorelei was annoying half of the time and the other half Reese was sticking his foot so far into his mouth, even I couldn't see straight. I get it, we're tackling some major things, but even I felt kind of uncomfortable in some situations. COMMUNICATION IS KEY PEOPLE. At least that's what people say, I can't say I'm a pro at it lol. -JH

Wow - what a read! This book drew me right in and kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible. The characters have a depth that made them feel real and made me feel invested in their story.

The story is the classic of a girl who has nothing , yet has what's really important, and a guy who has everything, but nothing that matters. When their niece is orphaned, they both step in, with all of the drama and angst that follows. What's different, however, is the author's voice. She has created compelling characters and made them come alive on the page. I was completely immersed in their story and wanting them to get their HEA ending.

Put this one at the top of your TBR list. While this is the first book I've read by this author, it won't be the last. I'm looking forward to reading more by her.

A Cowboy for Keeps is a sweet story about two people who felt second in their birth families that learn to be first when the death of their siblings bring them together to raise the child left behind. Laura Drake has created characters that will grab readers’ hearts and keep them turning pages. Neither Lorelei nor Reese has had romantic relationships that fostered trust, but as this story unfolds they cannot help but lean on each other to keep baby Sawyer enfolded in love and safety. The writing is first class and this reader will be looking for more by Ms. Drake. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

My thoughts

Would I recommended it? Yes

Would I read more by this author? Yes,in fact I have The Last True Cowboy to read.

This is the second book by this author and she never lets me down , the first one I read was Home at Chestnut Creek which is book 2 in the Chestnut Creek series and the first time I ever picked anything up by this author, one thing I loved about it as well as this one is that it takes place in a small town where its about family and friends, and her stories always a sweet romance that is full of quirky characters with that said I want to say thank you to Forever as well as NetGalley for letting me read and review it .

This read sort of like The Last Chance Cafe by Linda Lael Miller. Lorelei is stuck in a rut. She likes her life but always had a secret wish for more. Then her sister dies and leaves behind a six month old daughter and Lorelei suddenly has more than she’d ever imagined, including the broody brother of the baby’s father to contend with. Reese and Lorelei have a slowish burn, lots of misunderstandings, love that they’re afraid to accept from each other, and pride getting in their way. Of course, once they think they’ve got it all together, an angry man bent on revenge tries to tear them apart with a cruel act. Reese and Lorelei both have to set their pride aside to make things right after that, and Reese especially works hard to show that he’s more than just a shadow of his past.

This story was an enjoyable read about stubbornness and how it can make, break, and heal relationships. I didn’t read the book (or books?) before it in the series, but I didn’t feel lost among the side characters at all.
