I’ve read lots of Arsenal histories but this was an enjoyable approach that told the story of the club via the lives of some of its most important players and staff. Nicely written and a good addition to any fan’s library.

The book is obviously for the fan of soccer. It provides the very foundation of the game in England. I grew up with football, basketball and baseball, American-style. And just through watching the games, reading about the stars of yesteryear I developed a foundation for the appreciation of that sport. Russel to James in basketball. Turtle to Brady in football. Walter Johnson to Clayton Kersha in baseball. And the wonderful sportscasters in each sport that filled in the gaps in your history lesson.

But those of in America that didn’t have ready access to soccer, well we’ve got to catch up because it’s such a great game. Learning about the players and coaches builds the foundation and the evolution of the sport. And honors it. Arsenal is a good start.
