Although this is the second book in an Amish mystery series, I read it as a standalone. Touted as a mystery, I found it to be more of a family drama. There is a mystery surrounding who is attacking the family greenhouse and why, but to me it did not seem a central part of the story. The center of the book was Sylvia, a young widow with two young children who is trying to find a new path for her life. In so doing, she follows her younger brother Henry into the hobby of birdwatching. Sylvia meets another birdwatching hobbyist, Dennis Weaver, who ends up renting her old home. To me, Sylvia was well-developed and elicited a lot of sympathy from me. Belinda, Sylvia’a mother, was also a recent widow, but was a no-nonsense, take control of the family kind of person. Belinda was charged with taking care of the family greenhouse business. I liked Belinda’s character, but I didn’t feel like I ever really got to know her. Finally, there is Amy, Sylvia’s sister, who is planning her wedding to her sweetheart and trying to tamp down her enthusiasm so she won’t hurt Sylvia’s feelings. That Amy would be willing to give up so much just not to offend her sister spoke to her selflessness, so she was also a very likable character. All in all, the book was a good Amish read, with a little mystery and a lot of family drama. I did enjoy reading it and learning about birds along the way. Fans of Amish fiction will enjoy this clean, theme-driven book.

This novel is both a sweet romance and an absorbing mystery. This book is the second book in the Amish Greenhouse series, which I did not know. I was able to read it as a stand-alone without much trouble, although I will admit that I am going to buy the first book just to clarify some issues.

Ms. Brunstetter has a way of writing that brings the Amish to light. On the other hand, her English characters seem to leave a little to be desired. They are almost a caricature of what most English people really are (at least in my opinion.)

There is both tremendous joy and a lot of sadness in this book. The spirituality in this book is not overwhelming for someone who may not be a believer, so I find that this book will appeal to just about everyone, no matter what their feelings are toward God.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little different, clean and wholesome and with a pretty good mystery.

The Mockingbird's Song is the second book in the Amish Greenhouse Mysteries by Wanda Brunstetter. We rejoin the King family as they are still recovering from the tragic loss suffered in The Crow's Call. This time Sylvia is the focus. She is desperately trying to recover from the loss of her husband and is not prepared for meeting the new man in the community.
The Mockingbird's Song is considerably lighter and has a more hopeful feel to it. But the mystery of vandalism at the greenhouse and the disdain of the English neighbors are still a focus of the story. Usually, I have an idea of who the culprit might be in a story. But Brunstetter has been very sneaky about even dropping hints. I do have a suspect but only because I don't like the character.
As for the neighbor across the road, I don't have a clue why she is part of the story. Maybe I'm missing something. The lack of a storyline with this character is why I gave the book 4 stars.
Now I just have to wait for the third book! I'm anxious to see if I'm right about my suspicions. I also want to see the King family come to grips with the loss they have suffered. Wanda Brunstetter has a gift for drawing the reader into a story and she has done it again with The Amish Greenhouse Mysteries.
I voluntarily received a copy of the book from NetGalley.

The Mockingbird's Song continues the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. After a tragic accident kills Sylvia's husband, father, and brother, she and her family are left to pick up the pieces. Sylvia is extremely anxious and cannot seem to find a way through her grief. Realizing that she needs a distraction, Sylvia takes up bird watching. As her friendship grows with Dennis, her mother is not sure if he is the right choice. When things go south, the attacks on the greenhouse begin again. Is there a connection?

This book deals mainly with grief and coping with going through healing. It gives the promise of love and a future. It was also interesting to learn about bird watching. I look forward to more from this series. I received a copy through Netgalley. I review was not required. The views expressed are my own.

It’s hard grieving for those we’ve loved and lost to death. In this second book of the Amish Greenhouse mystery series, Sylvia, her mom, sister and brother are still missing the three men in their lives that died in a tragic buggy accident. Almost a year has passed and they are trying to get on with their daily routines. Their greenhouse is still getting struck by mysterious sabotage and phone threats trying to make them shut down and move. Add to the mix a nosy Englisher across the street, Virginia, a male named Monroe trying to get in good with Belinda (the mother), and a shaggy “homeless” woman named Maude and strange, sometimes funny happenings befall the family. Sylvia decides to rent her house she lived in with her husband, now deceased, to a newcomer to the area, Dennis. She, her brother Henry and Dennis all enjoy birding together. Her mother Belinda disapproves of her friendship with Dennis. Join this Amish family in their new adventures working, loving and living. You don’t have to read book one to enjoy this one but it makes the relationships easier to understand.

Wanda Brunstetter's newest novel, The Mockingbird's Song, continues the story of the King family. In the first novel, three members of the family died in an awful accident. Now, almost a year has passed and they are all doing their best to make a success of their greenhouse and come to terms with everything that happened. This story particularly focuses on Sylvia, whose husband was among the three that died. Sylvia is struggling with her faith and the idea of moving on. She takes up bird watching with her sixteen year old brother Henry. While out one day, they meet Dennis, a newcomer to the area. As they spend more time together, her heart finally starts to heal. But, the vandalism that plagued them before in the greenhouse is back, and much worse this time. As the family struggles to get through everything, they must all learn to trust God for everything, especially Sylvia. I really enjoyed this book! I can't wait for the final one in the series to come out. I hope there will be other books about the Kings and their family and friends! I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this opportunity.

The Mockingbird’s Song by best selling author Wanda Brunstetter is the second book in her Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. This Christian Amish mystery romance is such a good book. While it could be read as a stand-alone, readers would benefit benefit from reading book one, The Crow’s Call, first.

Author Brunstetter has done a fantastic job with her characters. Their personalities are captured on the pages and I became invested in their stories. Even the secondary characters are memorable in this series. Some are sweet and loving and others are downright scoundrels.

This story centers around widowed daughter and mother Sylvia Her pain and sorrow are so deep I could almost feel them myself. Her grief is consuming her. She lost her husband, father, and brother all in the same fatal accident.

Henry, her younger brother has taken up bird watching. He finally has convinced Sylvia to trek along with him. She finds it enjoyable. They happen upon Dennis Weaver, a young Amish man who trains horses but is also an avid birdwatcher, also. Since they have a common hobby, a friendship quickly forms between the three.

The vandal from Book One is back in full force piquing my interest even more. There are some interesting things happening for the matriarch of the family. A lot of familiar faces and some new ones are seen.

This is a captivating story that kept me reading. I loved learning about bird watching. It made me want to set up all of my bird feeders again and even go through the woods looking for our beautiful feathered friends. The faith element is strong and woven throughout the entire book. There are so many life lessons tackled, also. This book has so much to offer.

I highly recommend this. It would make a lively Book Club selection and comes with a discussion guide that can be used for book clubs or personal reflection as well. Look for the recipe for "Sylvia's Cherry Melt-Away Bars" as a treat at the end of the book. I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by the publisher but these are my honest words.

Just finished book 2 in the Amish Greenhouse series. I had read book 1 and I feel that in order to get the whole picture of what is happening in the story, that the books should be read in proper sequence. Although the author does a nice job of bringing you up to speed as to what has previously occurred in the story. Which was good even for when you have already read book 1. It helps to refresh your mind regarding the characters.

Virginia is an interesting, snoopy and somewhat grumpy neighbor who hasn't taken the time to appreciate her neighbors. She definitely needs to get a life, so to speak.

The others such as Sylvia are dealing with hard life experiences and are working towards healing their minds and souls. You can see the family interactions, both positive and negative ones, yet they are a loving family always hoping for the good of others, even though sometimes a little on the overprotective side.

I really enjoyed book 2 and it is clear that there will be a book 3, and I don't want to miss it, because clearly we haven't resolved the mystery of the greenhouse vandals. There is definitely more to come.

Amish romance readers will definitely enjoy this sweet romance and mystery combo and I know I certainly did.

More mysterious events amongst the Amish
With "The Mockingbird's Song" New York Times best-selling and award-winning author and one of the founders of Amish fiction, Wanda E. Brunstetter, presents the second book in her series "Amish Greenhouse Mysteries" which is published by Barbour Publishing Inc. (Shiloh Run Press). After the tragic traffic accident of Belinda's husband, son, and son-in-law she and her family is still struggling with the grief and manage the greenhouse. The vandalism continues and even includes the barn being burned down. There are a number of secondary characters that can be placed on the list of suspects. Sylvia has been depressed for so long that she hardly remembers what it felt to feel normal and happy. Will Dennis Weaver who is a bird-watcher like she and her brother will have a positive influence in her life?
Wanda E. Brunstetter continues the story of the first book in the series with the well-developed main and old and new secondary characters. She also continues to keep readers' attention with all the twist and turns in the flowing story line. The happenings in the greenhouse are still not resolved in this volume and will pull readers to the third book in the series (The Robin's Greeting). I highly recommend this book for lovers of Amish novels, but do not advice it for those who do not like open ends. It is also recommended, but not obligatory to read "The Crow's Call" beforehand. The book makes also a nice present. I highly appreciate the included the recipe for "Sylvia's Cherry Melt-Away Bars" as well as a discussion guide that can be used for personal reflection as well as in a Book club.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Sylvia has a difficult time getting through each day. She is in mourning. How could she ever be happy again? She is going through the motions to protect her children. Sylvia believes that she will not have anything to look forward to.

Sylvia's Mother, Belinda, has the world on her shoulders. She is dealing with her own grief as well as her family's. She is doing everything to keep her business afloat.

Henry, Sylvia's brother, deals with his loss by rebellion.

The neighbor across the street, Lydia, is dealing with her loss. She resents living in the country and losing her friend.

Grief hits everyone differently. You can't put a time limit on it. There are phases that each goes through to get to the other side. This story demonstrates how each member handles their loss and moves forward.

I can't wait to see how the story continues. Ms. Brunstetter leaves the door open for romance and see if there is hope for happiness.

I highly recommend this book for my friends and family.

The Mockingbird's Song is book 2 in Wanda Brunstetter's Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. In this latest installment of the series, We find that life has moved on for each of the members of the King family after the tragedy they experienced in the 1st book of the series. Healing comes at different speeds for each character in this book.Amy has moved forward with her plans to marry Jared in the fall. The matriarch of the family, Belinda, continues to rely on prayer to see her through her lonely days as she misses her husband. The greatest healing seems to take place in Sylvia. While she spent much of the 1st book in a state of deep depression over the loss of her husband Toby, this book finds her moving past her grief and embarking on a new relationship. And yet there are some mysteries that remain still unsolved in this second book. For instance, what happened to the neighbor lady, Virginia's leg? Why does she despise Amish people so much? Why is she in a near frantic state living out in the country? And just who is committing all of these acts of vandalism against The King family and their family- run greenhouse? Also what secrets is Monroe Esh hiding? The 3rd book in the series is due out in march of 2021. I have been surprised by the events in this series so far and cannot wait to see how Ms. Brunstetter brings it all to a close. I received an advanced copy of this book through Netgallery and Harbour Publishing. While I was under no obligation to provide a review, it has been my pleasure to do so.

I've been waiting for Wanda Burnstetter's second Amish Greenhouse Mystery, The Mockingbird's Song, and it was worth the wait. This book focuses on Sylvia, and the grief she is mired in after the devastating loss of not only her husband but also her father and brother. There is no timeline on grief. As the anniversary of the accident approaches, she is still content to keep close to her mother's home, her haven from the outside world. The home she shared with her husband is closed up and remains the same as the day of the accident.

It was a complete surprise to all when she allowed newcomer Dennis Weaver the option to rent her house and set up his horse training business on the grounds. Change is in the air for both Sylvia and Dennis, two people who needed a fresh start in life.

The mystery of the Amish Greenhouse remains unsolved but the random acts of vandalism hit closer to home each time. As this book concludes, one has to wonder if it is the neighbor who mistrusts the Amish, rambunctious teens on rumspringa, or the owners of the new bigger Englisch greenhouse? Or someone else entirely? I enjoyed The Mockingbird's Song, possibly because once again we see a glimpse into human nature. The good, the surprising and some that could use a little improvement. whether the reader is Englisch or Amish, we are more alike than we think.

An uplifting read for those weary of our present day cares. Characters with deep values who show respect and kindness for each other offer the reader insight into the lives of the Plane People of Pennsylvania. The story unfolds with the reawakening of hearts and spirit after a terrible accident in which three family members die.
Romance comes unexpectedly to one of the King sister’s whose days have been spent morning her lost husband. Wedding plans consume another.
But behind this reawakening of spirit lurks a King family secret, someone has been vandalizing the family business and farm. These acts have been kept from authorities and their brother who lives in New York. Who is behind this and why are they happening?
Unfortunately, you won’t find the answers to these questions because the book is written in serial format. The reader will have to stand by for the next installment.

This is the second book in the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series. I felt very frustrated with this story because there are still few clues about the vandalism in the greenhouse. The neighbor, Virginia is so irritating that she takes away from the story. Hopefully the next book will show some glimpse of redeeming qualities in Virginia's character. The grieving process is shown to be different for each individual which is a positive. I like Sylvia's strength in moving on. Dennis is a welcome addition to the series. I felt the book wrapped up a little too quickly with little answers. Looking forward to finding answers in the next book.

Having read the first book in this series, I was eager to read this book. I loved it! While this story focuses on Sylvia, the story does continue with Amy and Jared from the first book. In this book, we get a lot of information about birding, which I honestly don't know very much. I had no clue that there is a bird watching hotline. Henry comes out of his shell a little more now that Sylvia also discovered that she enjoyed watching birds. I really liked Dennis. I'm still trying to figure out Virginia's deal. The vandalism continues. I have my suspect and I can't wait to find out if I'm right! Thank you to Netgalley and Barbour Publishing for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is a well written book that hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. This is book two of the Amish Greenhouse Mystery series, it can be read as a stand alone, but It's so much better if you read book one, The Crow's Call. This is a wonderful series that has just enough suspense, drama and romance to keep you turning the pages. I love this series and can't wait to read the next book. Thank you Barbour Publishing - Shiloh Run Press via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
