This was a decent read. It was light and quick to read. I liked Lindy and Red and the plot was pretty good. I did have some issues with this story and I didn’t like the cliffhanger (not a fan of cliffhangers in general). **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book |
I’ll give this a 3.5. I love a good shifter story and while it did entertain me there’s a few things I have issues with. Embry.... dude your superiority complex is a complete turn off. Cannot stand how he acts, treats and talks to Lindy. It has my shackles raised. Papa alpha... ummm you’re kind sexist. And I’m not down with that. Lindy... girl what the hell do you want ? I was hoping for a strong female lead. One that would deserve to be alpha. One that would put these pompous males in their place. You fell short on that front. There were so many things that were just sporadic and didn’t make sense. Characters acting out of character. Loved Red. Loved the smut. Really well written sexy scenes. Really the saving grace of this book for me. Wtf was that ending ? A poorly executed cliff hanger. But at the end of the day, did it entertain me? Yes. Will I read the second? Possibly. Side note new cover is much better. |

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I love the shifter aspect, as surprisingly, I haven't come across many adult books with them! I immediately felt for the characters and thought that the intimate scenes were tasteful and left me wanting more! The ending was surprising and I didn't want it to end! I would love to purchase this book for my collection, and will definitely be looking out for the next one. |
I’m not certain how I feel about this book. I didn’t care much for the love triangle, and it just didn't make sense to me it felt off. I also couldn't connect with the main characters and really found it difficult to like either Lindy or Red so that made it really difficult to become invested in the book. The plot was promising at first but fell apart and seemed to just flounder into reactions to events instead of having a real plot. The change in POVs was not smooth and was even abrupt at times and unfortunate because as much as I wanted to like this book it just wasn't for me. I received this book via NetGalley for an honest review. #HuntressRising #NetGalley |

~ ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ~ This is my first DNF of an ARC received and I am deeply sorry for that. I think is a case of “is not you, is me”. The trope seems overused, or I’ve read too many books with similar topics. The writing style is good, Red parts made smile in some parts with his sarcasm, thus the 2 stars. Unfortunately, at 40% I’ve lost interest. |
If you love a good paranormal shifter book, this one will hook you in from the first page. Great new series - Magic and Bone, this is the first book of the series - Trouble with Wolves. Danielle Arnett's writing style and storyline is excellent. This is a fast paced book with a bit of everything for the reader. Love the characters and all the elements of this book. Looking forward to the next book in the series. This is a new author for me and after reading this book and really enjoying it, looked up other titles and have started the first series Blood and Magic and with Trouble with Wolves, finding it hard to put down. Will definitely be reading the whole series. Thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the opportunity to read, review and recommend this book. |

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I’m not certain how I feel about this book. I read the entirety of Aria’s story (so far?) but Lindy felt just like... less. Aria was already at a place where she was sure of her place in the world but Lindy seems constantly just a little off balance, just a little too questioning of herself for me to really get into this; too self centered and needy? I’m not certain, she just felt a little flat for my liking. I didn’t care much for this love triangle, and I hope that whatever the romance situation looks like in the next one, it’s better than this. The plot was done well though, and there’s a lot where this can go, but though I will probably read book two, it likely won’t be the second it comes out. |
Didn’t enjoy this at all. There was nothing likeable or appealing about either of the main characters, no chemistry. POVs where not done very well at all, no clear character distinction and changed perspective too quickly and often jarring. There also didn’t seem to be much plot or anything actually going on in this book. This just wasn’t one for me at all sorry. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion |
This book was given to me by Netgalley for my honest review. This book was hard to read. The back story wasn't set well enough before the sexy time stuff started. And that was a little gag inducing. Too much talk of her being a she wolf was involved. The flimsy war that arose was the best part of the book. |
Lindy wants to lead the pack and be the Alpha. She is trying to mediate between humans and her pack since there are also issues going on. She wants peace and everyone to get along. She meets a human hunter named Red, he wants to find his sister. He can do this by hurting Lindy and using the money to get sister back. So then they are in a messy situation, which leaves you ready for the next book. I think book was decent, but i thought it was a little flat after they had sex. IT was like they were just being together so they could be. NOt because t hey wanted to be. I guess I thought Lidny would be stronger and Red would stand behind her more. They could get better in the next book, but this one didn’t really hit the mark for me. I will be checking out the next book when it is available to find out what’s going to happen next. |

I liked the Sci Fi portion of the story. The romance portions I ended up skipping (and I probably would not have requested if I'd realized was also categorized as romance). I realize it is part of a series, but the ending just seemed to end without any resolution. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review. |

Lindy wants to be the next Alpha of her pack - following her father's footsteps. While tension continues to mount between the pack and the humans, Lindy tries to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. She meets Red - a human hunter who is more than he seems. Red is looking for his sister and needs the money he can get by betraying Lindy to find her. What happens next is a bit of a rigmarole that leads to an unwelcome cliffhanger. I don't know how to feel about this book - the plot was promising but fell apart when the leads' relationship turned sexual and everything after that point seemed reactionary. I found it difficult to like either character - Lindy because of how she let Embry treat her or Red who refused to take a side until the end - when it didn't truly matter. Your mileage may vary, but this was not a book for me. |
I found this book to be...frustrating, but good overall. I wanted it to be excellent and it does have some good qualities, but I’ve read better in this genre. Melinda Chagon, Lindy to most, is the daughter of the Alpha wolf of a race of shapeshifting paranormals living in the backwoods of Canada. Her pack is in danger from encroaching, bigoted, hateful humans calling themselves “Hounds”. They wear red capes through the woods that is her pack’s territory and they’re slowly killing off the wolves they think are threatening their town. Her father is in his last years, and a new alpha needs to step up. Embry has been in love with her and insisting they are mates, and even more troubling, his wolf insists he is the next alpha. Every fiber of Lindy’s wolf knows she is the one meant to lead her people - without being mated to the headstrong and controlling Embry. When she meets Red, he seems reasonable enough to help her broker peace between her Pack and the human village. Red is a war veteran and a pacifist who is looking for his twin sister. She works for the government as a liaison between paranormals and humans, bridging the gap and making peace where she can. Red hasn’t heard from her in six months. That’s too long, in his opinion. He’s taking jobs where he can so he can fund his search for her. This job has taken him to the tiny Canadian town of Lethbridge - and they are having wolf troubles. Having learned quite a bit in his work, he knows the humans don’t stand a chance against this pack. However, he’s being paid to find their den, which is exactly what he intends to do - until he meets the snow-white-haired female who appears to be leading the pack. Their attraction and chemistry are almost instant, and even though the tensions between the humans and wolves are quickly dissolving into war, the tension between Red and Lindy leads to a hot and spicy sexual liaison. Where do their loyalties lie, with each other or their respective missions? The ending of this book is a cliffhanger - and I have to find out what happens next. I will definitely be watching for the rest of the series. I did say that I only found this story good, not excellent. If you notice, this story has some strong Twilight vibes. Down to one of the wolves being named “Embry”. And they also mention a sister pack in the Pacific Northwest. Do you want to be mistaken for a Twilight-ripoff? Because this is how you get mistaken for a Twilight-ripoff. So you can’t really call this story “original”, although the language and sex isn’t even close to YA. The time it’s set in is supposed to be modern-era, but it isn’t exactly strong in the setting. It kinda feels like a western, but in the Canadian wilderness - in other words it felt vague. All that being said, I can honestly say I still liked the story. I love the fact that Lindy and Red are a biracial couple and that Lindy is pushing against the patriarchy (girl power!). I’m excited to find out what happens next in this series! |

Sexism within a wolf pack leads distrust. Fear has lead humans to want to eliminate the wolf shifters and Lindy’s father, the current Alpha, must make sacrifices to protect his pact. Lindy refuses her father’s match for her and feels that she is most dominant and should be Alpha. This book is short and leaves room for more in the series. Sexism within a wolf pack leads distrust. This is the first from this author for me and it was good. I’m pulled in! Lindy is determined to lead her pack and keep them safe. She’s not Alpha yet and has a whole lot of issues to get there. Red has his own agenda and he’s human. Their attraction is instant and pulling. But can they survive hatred and prejudice ? |
This book had a lot of potential. I thought the description was good but the book itself felt half complete. I feel like the author definitely could have fit more in, due to the ending feeling very unsatisfactory and incomplete. Not to mention the romance was also quite rushed. I feel like the characters barely knew each other. I am all for the idea of a forbidden romance but to me this didn't feel like a romance due to how quickly the characters "fell in love." I think this series has potential I was just disappointed by how short the book was and having to wait for the second one. |
Lindy is a shifter who will do anything to protect her Pack. Red is a human who wants to find his missing sister and protect humankind from the shifters. Can they create a pact to promote peace between their kinds? I enjoyed this fast paced book and the dual perspectives. The romance was a little fast tracked but when it happened, it was hot! Looking forward to reading what happens next in book #2! |
This was the first book I read from this author and I was far from disappointed. I laughed. I cried. I fell in love with the fictional universe of the Magic and Bone Series. I can't wait to get started on the next book. The suspense is killing me! I was kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Trouble with Wolves was just .. frustrating. It had some good and interesting parts but others just annoyed me. I don't know if it's the version of this shifters romance or if it was the characters I read about - just know that I somehow ended up annoyed. Okay, so maybe I do know the reasons. One would be Embry. Ugh, I hated him so much and just didn't get why everyone was on his team. It's cool and all that he wants to become Alpha of the pack but hot damn.. if she doesn't like you then don't force the mate on her. Then there's Lindy, the alpha's daughter. She wanted to find a way to create a peace treaty with humans before her pack dies out. The day she meets Red, she has hope that this dream could become a reality. Now them, I liked together. It was obvious that they had a spark but maybe they have the potential to be mates? I'm only going with that because I've read it before - a shifter and a human. So, it's possible in my eyes and I would've rooted for them. Then that ending just, ugh, frustrated and confused me. It didn't make sense to my brain and now I have no idea what the heck the second book will give me. Or if I even want to dive into it. Maybe I will if everyone stops making horrible decisions.. maybe. |
