This is your typical FBI agent- rescues- the -damsel kind of romance. No surprise that the damsel in question needs physical and emotional support as she struggles to come to terms with her brother's murder. While I admire her determination to find her brothers killer, her love affair with special agent Mike proves to be a distraction. There is barely a connection between them as they get hot and heavy soon after they meet with Mike already thinking he has feelings for her. Just not a lot there to really draw me.

Lucia is a feisty young college girl who is resourceful at hiding from the corrupt cops. But, money starts running out and FBI Special Agent Mike Flynn finds her. Mike, an Army buddy of her brother Alex was called to keep her safe from the ones that killed their other brother. As they work together to find out who killed him and take down the cartel, human trafficking ring, and corrupt cops in LA it becomes harder to ignore the attraction they have for one another. While the connections to minor characters in the spy world were too convenient, I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery in this novel. The twist at the end was unexpected. I read this short novel in one sitting to find out who the real bad guys were. The attraction between Lucia and Mike is not unique to the story- girl in trouble, hot agent comes saves the day, brother code of honor forbidding Mike from being with Lucia, and ends up sleeping with her anyway. If you like a good mystery with a bit of steamy romance thrown in, Run and Hide by Maggie Clare is a worthy read.
